Star Wars is one of the most perfectly shot in films ever, in my opinion, along with Dr. Strangelove. I'm glad he lived so long.

Just curious, but do you know if there are any decent programs or plug-ins that can add realistic 35mm film grain?
I have no skill in this area, and even if I end up making use of your promising project, I would still need to apply something to the other sources of footage I'm using to have things match up. Plus it'd be cool to keep in mind for other things.
What other sources are you using?
By the way emanswfan, I have to admit when you started this project I was skeptical, but you've totally sold me. I cannot wait to see this.
The petition just makes me laugh, it's so silly. Fanboys really hold a grudge. Affleck's a great choice and the naysayers will just come up with a stupid reason why the don't like him when he does a fine job.
Seriously, though. They should just use this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gpXMGit4P8
If I were in charge of making the new opening; it would start with the castle on Tatooine, with the twin suns behind it. Next up is the typical Lucasfilm Ltd. logo. And the music for it all would be a short rendition of the force theme. Then "A long time..."
Nah, really. Imagine if you saw Indy 4 without knowing any of the others even existed. It's better than most blockbuster fare these days.
By the way, fixed that sentence because it didn't really make sense.
Indy 4 is, without a doubt, an awesome and pretty good film. As an Indiana Jones film, however, it is way to unfocused. Indy becomes practically a member of a ragtag team. That's not how Indy does. And there are to many thematic threads. Indy works best when it mixes two things (ex. the Old Testament and Nazis), rather than a billion (Soviets/McCarthyism, Conquistadors/the city of gold, greasers, telekinesis, crystal skulls, and aliens).
The good news is that Star Wars has always been about a lot of things as once, so if Episode VII falls into the Indy 4 trap it'll still be pretty good. Besides, Indy 4 is only so cluttered because of two decades of rewrites. Looks like Episode VII will be facing the normal amount of rewrites.
On the flip side, the prequels were so disappointing because they faced no rewrites.

Oh, and Dustin Hoffman was awesome as the eponymous character - this is definately my favourite performance from him.

The ST is shaping up to be pretty awesome, if you ignore the BS rumors of force ghosts and Palpatine and such.
I'm not trying to be down on the ST, but other than those rumors what other information has there been?
Kathleen Kennedy is a highly respectable producer, Michael Arndt is a great writer, and J.J. Abrams is a fantastic director (and with him comes more than competent film editors and costume designer). Also, John Williams. Also Lawrence Kasdan.
In terms of the content, all we know so far is that they are going to try to bring back some practical effects, and the that Mark, Carrie, and Harrison are all but confirmed.
Besides that, I think the best aspect of the ST at the moment is that we don't have any information. The potential for these films are boundless. They won't be based on EU stories so we truly don't know what will happen or how it will all end, unlike those prequels that we all love so much.
So yeah, the ST is shaping up to be pretty awesome.

This is the part where I ask how and you tell me that's my problem, right? :p
Yep.

I really hope there won't be any old characters coming back as force ghosts. That was one of the things I really liked about Zahn's books - he recognized the stupidity of the scene in ROTJ, where Obi-Wan, instead of being a disembodied voice or a flickering apparition, appeared as a ghost to rest his but on a stone and have a whole expository conversation with Luke and so Zahn had Obi-Wan appear to Luke one last time telling Luke that he's moving on and Luke will have to deal with what's coming on his own.
It really cheapens the death of a character, when you can just bring them back whenever it's convenient - it kinda worked in ESB, because it was handled pretty tastefully but I think that on the whole, it's a pretty cheap plot device and it would be even worse to use it just to give the dead characters some kind of a cameo. Plus, imagine the horror if they brought Hayden back as Anakin's ghost... Urgh!
Yeah totally agree.
Also, Anakin really shouldn't even have a ghost, when you think about it. Not just from a PT perspective but from an OT perspective too. When I was a kid I was always confused why this guy showed up that people kept telling me was ghost Anakin. But didn't Obi-Wan tell him that he would become more powerful than he could possibly imagine? And why didn't Anakin disappear when he died?
Let's hope the force jedi count in the new films is zero. I could do with some dialogue from Luke saying something like "it's been twenty years since I've seen them. I'm on my own now." If the force ghosts just stayed around to make sure that Luke got his jedi order fixed up, then left, I'll be happy.

I did a video on youtube a while back that had Michael Scott from The Office on the rebellion's comlink.
Not sure if it would fit with your edit, but feel free to use any ideas from it if you want.
Fantastic! My favorite bit was Leia's "shut up!"
You could take this further/have it make more sense by dubbing the guy who briefs the fighters with Michael Scott. Before the meeting starts you could have over the loud speaker "everybody conference room, five minutes."
Good to know. Will be interested to see how the rescoring works.
I didn't necessarily mean the lines didn't work, I just meant the editing didn't work, hope you get it right.
If ever there was a time to say 'it's so crazy, it just might work'...
Anyway, I realize it's a rough cut, but I thought I'd point these things out anyway:
- Obi Wan says "Qui-Gon would never join you," then "I will never join you." Doesn't really work.
- The music for the beginning of the arena scene needs to change, Across the Stars doesn't make sense at this point.
But you probably already know these things, so I'll just say good luck! Can't wait to find out how this will work!

I think Palpatine should execute order 66, and then something funny happens. The he says something like "I've always wanted to do that." Then he executes the real order.
Hmm, maybe when he says execute order 66, a clone responds saying "sending a Big Mac over there right now," or something along those lines.
How?
Hey, man, I just come up with ideas. The how is your job!
In all seriousness, those don't have to be the exact lines, I'm just suggesting a general idea. I'm sure, if you're interested of course, you could find Tommy and/or Palpatine lines that would work in that manner. I would do it but it seems like getting a text version of dialogue from movies is something of a hassle.

Yeah that picture is pretty much it for me. I love how Star Wars turned out (obviously, it's my favorite film, more or less); but ever since I saw that art, I've always thought how amazing that movie would have been. Let's do it J.J.

If you don't like B&W you don't like film. Colorized films can be fun though as an alternate viewing experience.
My exact thoughts.

Revenge of the Sith. It would explain why Palps knows everything.
I'd say the chances of it being true are less than 5%.
That's your fault for watching Mama, not the century's fault for making some duds (as was also the case in the previous century).
If it was just the announcement of the moon being destroyed, I think it would still flow. But as is with the whole sequence kept it doesn't really work because its pacing is slower than the pacing of the montage as a whole.
It's actually quite interesting how, ever since Connery left Bond, the franchise has been copying the styles of the popular, mainstream action films of their time; rather than trying to do something new. In some ways it's a shame, but in other ways it's pretty cool, at least to look back in a historical sense. One could kind of see the Bond franchise as a 50 year old constant in the blockbuster marketplace, that at the same time is a chameleon towards the fashion of the time. So if someone wanted to see the progression of the action movie, they need only watch the Bond films.
