‘Confirmed by @thedigitalbits that if you buy the Blu-ray-only set you get 11SE on Blu-ray, but if you buy the UHD / Blu-ray combo set you get the 19SE on Blu-ray. Because that’s not confusing to consumers.’

I can imagine it won’t clearly marked as such on the packaging either…

That’s very disappointing news. And a crazy decision from Disney! There is now no incentive for customers to buy the new Blu-Ray set, given it is the same as the previously released (and rereleased not long ago) 2011 versions.

For those in the same boat as me who don’t have any 4K equipment, the UHD set seems far too expensive as a means of getting the new Blu-Rays.

What a festering pile of pants.

I mean… why would anyone want the new Blu-rays?

I saw Annie Hall was on amazon Prime so I thought I’d give it a watch. This dreck beat Star Wars as best picture in 1977? WTF!?

It was so awful I couldn’t finish it. Turned it off after about 20 or 30 mins. And that was being generous. I wanted to stop after about 10 mins but tried to give it the benefit of the doubt.

But geez. It’s basically a pathetic, miserable man being pathetic and miserable and making everyone around him miserable too. What was wrong with people that they would vote for this trash over Star Wars?

lolno.
Star Wars should have won, but.

Yeah.

Just watched TROS for the first time since December, and I enjoyed it a lot more this time! Adjusting my ranking:

  1. A New Hope
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. The Last Jedi
  4. The Force Awakens
  5. Return of the Jedi
  6. Rogue One
  7. The Rise of Skywalker (was 9)
  8. Solo (was 7)
  9. The Phantom Menace (was 8)
  10. Attack of the Clones
  11. Revenge of the Sith

After watching TROS again in quarantine with my parents, I have decided this was a ridiculous ruling and I am reversing this decision. Back to the old order it goes!

Yeah, TROS isn’t better than Solo. But also, neither is RO.

Yeah, any issues with the power of Rey are secondary to the larger issue of her place in the story, which I think in TLJ becomes a bit usurped by Luke.

Here’s my question though, I also have an issue with that scene in the movie, but how is your change fixing that? Not saying it doesn’t I’d just be curious to hear your thought process.

I’d like to hear the specifics of your issue with it.

As for my thought process, as I said above, her powers are well established and clearly equal to Kylo’s according to the saber breaking scene. It may seem a bit paradoxical to cure the issue of Luke’s limelight stealing sacrifice with even more evidence of his awesomeness, but the important thing is not the miraculous acts but how they relate to the characters. Luke knows that the First Order will see his power and glory on full display with his illusion. He must also know that if he helps Rey save the Resistance through the lifting of the rocks, she will get the glory and legend for this act though he had a hand in it. I see it as a final gift to Rey, a vindication of her belief in the legend of the Jedi which he passes on to her in this moment. Luke may feel that he is undeserving of his legend, yet in the end he faces evil regardless. He sees the value in such an act, and now Rey has the opportunity to feel what he feels; generating a legend greater than her own acts to become a spark of hope.

My problems are basically, she’s the main character but in this sequence she is the B-plot to Luke’s story, but also I feel like this is where her arc for the film should be concluding, but we don’t really see her internal conflict. Basically, in my mind what they should have done is had Luke contact Rey and impart on her what Yoda imparted on him, that you can’t let failure get you down and all that, so Rey finds the strength within her to lift the rocks despite her failure her turn Kylo.

What you’re aiming for, I kinda feel like they already get that idea across just with him saying “I will not be the last Jedi” and then seeing Rey? Although I’m warming to it, now that I’m explaining my thoughts out loud. Depending on how your concept plays out it could make Rey’s rock lifting much more of it’s own moment beyond a cutaway from Luke’s speech. I can also see how Luke speaking to Rey would be a way of not just telling the audience that Luke is passing on his legacy to her, but Rey is being told as well. Hmm, it might work.

I mean you could always make Rey’s saber purple. Part of me likes the idea that it’s the midway point between blue and red, but also thematically there isn’t really anything in the movie to set that up. Also the fact that Mace has a purple saber obscures that idea.

I really like the magenta color saber in Fallen Order:

It kinda reminds me of Gundam, which is a thing I’m not too familiar with but enjoyed as a kid simply because they had lightsabers haha.

I wonder if we can make “Palpatine just sort of forgets” a full on plot point. He’s old, he should be pretty senile now, right? His memory isnt what it used to be and he can’t quite recall what it is he wants to do. Which is why he starts quoting himself, why his plans for Rey are so inconsistent and can explain away whatever inconsistencies arise from editing to our preferences. I started this post as a joke but now I kind of want to do it.

Dementia Palpatine is the edit we deserve

NFB you need to make your own bonkers edit that just turns the film into a straight up camp experience.

‘Palpatine sort of forgot about Rey’

Yeah this is the unfortunate aspect, but it’s right there in the original too.

In my mind I have a solution, but I’m not confident I can accomplish it. Basically Palpatine tried to kill a lot of force sensitive babies. But honestly the available Kylo dialogue is pretty limited.

I’m taking a very JJ Abrams approach with it, which is basically do it quickly and don’t ask too many questions. Basically, the path of least resistance - cut out all discussion of Rey’s parents trying to protect her and any flashback that shows them loving her and standing up to Ochi. All we see and know is that Palpatine was looking for Rey, and when Ochi couldn’t find her he killed her parents. Does it make sense? Maybe not. But I don’t think it makes any less sense than what we get in the theatrical.

Eh… doesn’t seem to fit snugly. I don’t mind if anyone wants to reach out, but I don’t see this as particularly valuable. I would like, though, to gently fold in a couple bars of Across the Stars.

Ben and Rey still had a love theme that John Williams wrote.

Did they?

Very much how Han and Leia had a love theme too which mashed their themes together.

Did it?

Did the DOTF draft really have her using purple lightning?

Yeah, similar sort of situation where she uses it a fit of rage (though it kills a Knight of Ren, not “Chewie”).

I’d read the “Don’t be afraid of who you are” line as accepting the mix of dark and light we all have or something like that.

That’s my hope, though I’d like to find some way to bring that point home more clearly. Perhaps a Kylo Ren line, but I haven’t found any lines from him that’d work to that point.

I think there is some value in giving Rey these darkside abilities, since Palpatine or not she is struggling with some dark emotions in TROS. The lightning especially feels very right for Rey, and I like it even more if it is unconnected with her heritage because it feels organic to her struggle with Kylo.

That’s how I feel yeah. One potential solution is taking a page from DOTF and making it purple lightning.

The Death Star door never really occurred to me. You could probably think of some explanation. What worries me more is Leia’s line “Never be afraid of who you are” and Rey’s talk with Luke. I’m still not sure if Leia’s line tips too much towards ‘She’s a Palpatine’ or if it’s vague enough to work, and the scene with Luke will have to be cut down drastically of course but I wonder what the effect will be with the remaining lines.

I can’t wait to see what you’re able to do with Rey Nobody. I’m sure you’ve already considered this, but perhaps the duel in Kylo’s bedroom could end with, “I know what happened to them. I’ll come tell you.”

I have some notes, I’m waiting to personally get my hands on the scene before I make any definite decisions. But it’s probably fair to say most of the dialogue in that scene will be shifted around.

I understand what you are coming from Dominic, but we are just going by what the movie presented. Now, you can look at outside sources to help build a picture, but again, I think the topic is what the MOVIE is really showing and implying. That’s where I am in the boat of trying to make the movie explain things without relying on OUTSIDE material to get the “full” picture.

At the risk of continuing this circle, I’ll just reiterate that my interpretation is what I got from the movie on my first two viewings, it’s not based on anything else. My point about the supplemental material is that I think that what I saw was quite possibly what they intended, so I don’t think the film is a definitely pro-puppet as people seem to imply. As I said before I think they purposefully leave it vague.

EDIT: Just saw ROgue’s comment. I do like the idea that Hal had was to remove the Snoke bodies and have body parts to be Palps that helps paint the picture of cloning … parts for him.

I think Palpatine clones would be fun, although it might raise questions in regards to Palpatine’s appearance. I think RL probably presents the absolute simplest solution to get rid the Snoke puppet idea - just cut out “you have ever heard.”

I don’t know what to say except I don’t buy it. I understand I am in the minority on this one, most people seemed to interpret it that way. And not that it means anything but I do believe if you look at things like that novelization excerpt and the visual dictionary it seems like the official intention was closer to what I took from it.
