Please tell me that’s old EU.
Please tell me that’s old EU.
I was working on this very thing a couple weeks ago. So I can probably help you out but it might be another couple weeks til I can get to it.
Wow, that sounds great. Can you elaborate on this at all? It might sound weird, but knowing you’re tackling the same issue fills me with relief. Please keep me posted. I’m moving onto Episode III in the meantime.
Yeah, I probably should have said more. Basically, as you know, I’m using your edit as a base, but one of the main things I’m doing is color grading each scene. So yeah I’ve been working on the day-for-night from scratch.
Here’s a couple shots:
That should give you a rough idea of where I’m headed, with the caveat of course that these are works in progress (still a little too dark, amongst other things) and also not full quality stills at all. I’m also having a much harder time with the wider shots but I’ll get it where it needs to be (or as close as I can).
I’ll allow it since having the public know makes for some very interesting drama.
Really want to check out that book.
Kinda like if Jim Jarmusch made a vampire movie…
Didn’t he?

Ok, so you agree he might not be as powerful as the Emperor. Then why is it so hard to understand how he might not be able to do something that the Emperor can do as a result?
Because Darth Vader is a master of the Dark Side. Let’s say if Vader in the OT was as competent as Darth Maul, Kylo Ren or even the Inquisitors from Rebels I can understand why you would say that as they are nowhere near Sidious but the gap in power between Vader and Sidious isn’t that big to have certain abilities be completely alien to him. Higher proficiency maybe but not entire abilities.
It’s like saying I’m stronger than you but I shouldn’t be able to lift more weight than you.
It’s a little more complicated than that but I see what you’re trying to say.
EDIT:
Nostalgia has to do with it in Dominic and Impscum’s case. Maybe not yours but theirs.
Nostalgia doesn’t have anything to do with it. It’s a legitimate interpretation if you watch the OT films. In them, the force is a mystical energy. It’s a fantasy so it’s really not hard to understand why someone more powerful knows a certain move. Think even something like Kill Bill with the five point palm exploding heart thing. You can be a master and still not know everything.
The problem is the PT made the force more rigid and narrow. Dooku = sith so he must have lightning. But it shouldn’t be a simple as that. And no it doesn’t fucking mean that the Emperor is an OP demi-god. Just means he knows an ability Vader does not.
Your theory hinges on “The Emperor is sooo powerful/evil that he…” which is lamer than shit.
He’s so powerful/evil that he can use force lightning. How is that lamer than shit?
Darth Vader is a top tier Force Wielder.
Nothing in the OT indicates this.
He says to Obi-Wan (who is a Jedi Master) he was but the learer but now he is the master and he can Force choke someone with thousands if not millions of miles of space separating them. I need not say more.
Doesn’t make him as powerful as the Emperor.
I didn’t say it did. It makes him a top tier Force Wilder though.
To say that he can’t use Force Lightning because he’s somehow inept in comparison to Sidious is to claim Sidious is akin to a God which is lame.
Except I said neither of those things.
Less powerful /= inept
I said you said he was inept in comparison to Vader which is literally what you said when you suggested that he wasn’t as strong to the point that Sidious can do something Vader couldn’t even attempt.
Emperor can do something Vader can’t. That doesn’t make Vader inept in comparison, it makes him less powerful.
The definition of inept is as follows
lacking skill or ability
so if he is unable to utilize Force Lightning he is inept by definition in that regard.
More powerful /= God
I should have said demi-God.
More powerful /= demi-God.
That’s pretty much the next step up when Vader is already a Dark Side Master,
Nothing you’ve said has given me any reason to abandon the quite simple and reasonable view that Vader was not strong enough to use force lightning.
That’s probably because we don’t share the same opinion regarding Vader and/or Sidious’ power.
Lightning should be unique to Emperor for +/-100 years. That should show that he really was something special. On the other hand, it would maintain lightning as something very special an rare. PT dumbed down lightning, as so many other concepts from OT.
And this is why I want Supreme Leader Snoke to be stronger than Sidious by a large margin.

If you just watch the OT it’s easy to assume that the Emperor is just more powerful. When I was a kid and first saw Dooku use lightning it was a big what the fuck moment. Even in TFA you don’t see Kylo Ren use lightning. It shouldn’t be ubiquitous for sith and you certainly shouldn’t be able to deflect it so easy.Given the other things Dooku did in AOTC it’s safe to say he’s at least an expert Force Wielder so that’s not surprising to me at all. Kylo Ren on the other hand is an adept Force Wielder. He has massive potential and knows a couple of powerful and obscure abilities but he hasn’t even completed his training and in his mind probing ability he clearly hasn’t mastered that yet. If he continues to train for even a few years he will be an expert or even a top tier Force Wielder.
I don’t give a shit about “top tier Force Wielders.” The fact that the EU made it so that force abilities are like unlockable powers in a video game is fucking dumb. In the OT Vader was exceptionally powerful but only the Emperor had the special force lighting ability. The fact that Dooku could do it because he’s a “expert Force Wielder” is stupid as shit. It shouldn’t work that way.
In all seriousness if The Emperor is so powerful why did he do nothing when Vader picked him up? He seemed rather surprised when Vader turned on him so him continuing to use Force Lightning seemed accidental rather than malicious
His over confidence is his weakness. He didn’t expect Vader to turn on him.

Yeah you’re right. I guess the name of the trilogy might have been given by italians (anyway, the french dubbing is far superior than the english dubbing. Connection with the conversation ? None).
Don’t know if that’s true but the English dubbing at least makes logical sense.
The man with no name who is called Boba Fett. Ok.
[fun fact: the Leone trilogy is also known in France as “la trilogie du dollar” = “the dollar trilogy”, 'cause each installment deals with how getting money]
Sorry to say it’s not a fun fact because it is pretty commonly known as the dollars trilogy in the US too.
I could go for some Lava Berry Explosion right now.
I had those back in 2005 and they were shit.
- Superior spelling and grammar.
- Superior bathing skills.
- Superior recognition of #1 and #2.
Nobody is “better” than anybody else, so knock it off unless you want to seem like a jerk.
As a filthy millennial myself, I’ll say that those who use proper spelling and grammar are objectively better. That’s just fucking obvious.
Also, before you ask, yes, I’m only saying this to agree with Frink.
I’m probably one of the few people who doesn’t mind Temura Morrison. Sure he’s a prequel retcon/SE change but if you look past that he does have a cool voice.
I never had any loyalty towards Wingreen. Honestly, I don’t get it. It’s a cool voice but he’s got four lines?
As for the potential spin-off, I don’t think there’s much to worry about. Morrison’s easy to get past if you just forget why you hate him (PT/SE). Boba’s origin has already been fucked so no need to worry that the movie will do that. Besides that the character is a blank slate in the new canon so there’s a lot of room for something interesting, and finally a way for Fett to live up to his off-screen hype on-screen.
They digitally covered up Natalie Portman for the Your Highness trailer. 😉
I really miss there was no room for a “Slave Padmé” scene in the PT…
Duracell sock confirmed.
Actually, I’m one of the few heterosexual men out there who isn’t really turned on by Slave Leia.
Same. I think it’s because the films were so ingrained in my mind before I ever had romantic feelings that my asexual childhood feelings toward slave Leia have remained all the way to my adult life.
So to me, the outfit is just another way Jabba’s making her uncomfortable.
The Marvel comics are simply wonderful.
Ronster you’re reading a bit much into it. It literally could be as simple as the scene where he gets the gash was moved afterwards. Point being we have no idea why the change.
I don’t think anyone doubts this’ll be the most adult SW film yet. Don’t think we have to worry about censorship.
On another note if like to say I haven’t seen any footage for this movie yet and couldn’t be happier. Even though I care much less about spoilers for this than TFA, they’ve been MUCH easier to avoid.
So the only new deleted scenes are more Leia stuff and Unkar Plutt’s revenge? I’m not sure why I was expecting more, I can’t think of anything else that’s missing.
Well there’s the question of whether they filmed C-3PO getting his golden arm back but not sure if that’s just speculation. Also speculation is whether or not they ever filmed the Snoke dialogue about Vader, but even if they did it’s a small bit and not a full scene.
Obviously there’s alternate shots and stuff from the trailer but those things never get released.
There is the Maz at Resistance base bits but I believe that’s part of a larger subplot that has been supplanted in the final film by reshoots. So not a surprise they wouldn’t include that.
The only other thing is that the scene with the stormtroopers in Maz’s basement that they released is clearly truncated. So hopefully they’ll lengthen that (but somehow I doubt it). The scene is fucking weird though so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
How do people not know this?

Because there are a lot of casual Star Wars fans out there.
What’s strange though is that they know the quote but not what movie it’s from.
Just saw a pristine 35mm print of Jaws. Absolutely fantastic.
That theater is doing a two-week 70mm series shortly after my birthday, and I’m seriously considering going to at least half the movies. The ones I’m circling are Lawrence of Arabia (again; I just saw it two months ago but I don’t think I could live with myself if I passed up seeing a real print), 2001: A Space Odyssey, Spartacus, and Sleeping Beauty (they’ve got the only existing 70mm print). They’re also doing The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur on 35mm, and I’ll probably try to see one or both of those.
FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!
I’m out of state for the semester! I am legitimately furious at myself for missing this.
I assumed yhwx was the only one who didn’t get what is going on here but apparently now there are two of them.
A sad world we live in where there are some who don’t realize anime is complete dog shit.
Now you, Dominic? 😭
Dom generally always sides with Frink, on really anything as far as my memory goes. I wasn’t surprised he put his two cents in the “anime sucks” bucket.
Well of course I side with him. I’m his wife.

- thinking about how “diverse” she should be? If I was “non-white” I would probably find it offensive. NO STAR TREK FAN CARES about the skin colour of the main protagonist.
POLITICS ALERT
I always am amazed at how many white people think they know what minorities should or shouldn’t think about a given subject.
I’m also amazed when someone thinks all fans of a a given franchise are the same.
I know a bunch of “non-white” Star Trek fans, and they are PUMPED for news like this, every time. Because, sadly, it’s still hard to find a character in fiction who represents them, who their kids can see themselves as.
Exactly!
This new series seems to be doing a number of things that make me excited, moving away from traditional aspects of Trek series.
Damn they got me. It was obvious I guess but I couldn’t wait.
Will probably have to jump if for nothing else than commentary (and deleted scenes but who knows how much will actually be there).
Dig the ROTJ throwback cover.
This is as good a time as any to ask. Could someone please tell me where the music that starts at about 0:41 in this tv spot is from?
I’m almost certain it’s not in the movie itself, if it’s even from the TFA score at all. I never bought the album so if it’s on there I wouldn’t know.
Those six seconds or so of music have been driving me crazy ever since I saw this preview during the “Shondathon” on abc that week. This ended up being the very first time we heard any of John Williams’ compositions for the movie.
Almost certainly composed for trailers/spots. You’ll notice it sounds somewhat similar to the music from the second teaser (and has the same Yoda and the Force bit at the end). Well that music was composed specifically for the second teaser by someone other than Williams. Probably the same thing here.
