Ray_afraid and moviefreakedmind, thank you for sharing your experience, however I cannot relate to it. As you said, you just thought you were smart (despite evidence of contrary) and then eventually realised you are not. On the other hand, I was always a scientist and questioned everything rigorously. When I was a kid I was reluctant to just conclude I am smart, despite various clear evidence supporting that. But after 30 years of various clear evidence I just eventually had to conclude the obvious.
Ha, you’re 30? I would’ve guessed 17.
By the way, you’re about as much of a scientist as Bill Nye the Science Guy.
You do Bill Nye a great disservice.
They’ll be burying you this time tomorrow!
Perfect so I’ll just sleep then!
Seriously though I’ve pulled enough all nighters in school to get work done that they’re really no biggie anymore.
Quick, sleep now.
Smart but I still have packing to do, duh.
Dom I swear to god man.
Honestly I have an early flight tomorrow and there’s a 80% chance I just don’t sleep tonight.
Never stay up all night. Just don’t do it. It’s a dumb plan.
Don’t tell me how to live my life mom!!1!
If Chris Hemworth wasn’t famous now, would they even be considering this idea?
Hopefully yes. Star Trek remains Hemsworth’s best performance and that opening scene still continues to affect Jim’s character in each film. Excited to see how this plays out.
I wonder who’ll direct if Lin isn’t back. I was kinda hoping this past one would be given to Edgar Wright but I imagine he wants to do his own stuff (I’m sure they asked).
For some reason I’m itching to play a Spidey game as good as 2 on PS2. Have any of the PS3 era titles been with playing?
Btw I hated Ultimate. Just a huge letdown.
Why don’t they realize all we want to do is swing around and have fun is beyond me…just like they thought we didn’t want a fantastic next gen Indy game…
Spidey 2 might be my all time favorite game (not much of a gamer in fairness).
If you’re willing for a game that’s a slight step down but mostly the same, can’t go wrong with Spidey 3 (which must be pretty cheap nowadays).
It’d be nice to add another female to the crew (and alien for that matter). It is sort of surprising how they didn’t do much to fix the gender imbalance in the new crew (even though they obviously noticed it what with Uhura’s beefed up roles). Definitely not saying they should have changed the gender of any characters or added heaps of new ones but I don’t see why they couldn’t have fit in spots for Chapel or Rand or a Marcus that wasn’t shit (or maybe even some one-off females from the show).
they’re obviously talking about games with The Witcher and The Elder Scrolls series
I’ll have to take your word on that.
Yeah there are some games that just have so fucking much packed in (actually a reason I can’t really get into them, oddly enough), so the image makes sense. It doesn’t say anything about quality, just quantity.
I watched STID one week prior to Beyond and did not have the same reaction. And FWIW, I had no idea who the director was until after I saw Beyond, so it certainly wasn’t a preconceived notion.
Don’t know what else to say.
I definitely respect your reactions. JJ’s most impressive skill is his ability to keep a film engaging and moving forward. So I can understand how it might be easy to go with it and miss such things. But the action stuff in that film is very much shot shaky-cam and done with quick cuts and little mind for geography.
They’re not terrible films, but I don’t understand how fans will point out all the minute plot issues with BvS and give these films a pass.
I don’t give half a shit about minute plot issues in the Nolan films or BvS. And I don’t need to. BvS has much bigger problems. It’s a fucking disgrace that that “movie” is a part of the same franchise as the TDK trilogy. Maybe even moreso than Batman and Robin.
Thankfully Affleck will be behind the next solo Bat flick so the character won’t be in the shitter for too long.
Well sure, but couldn’t they have found someone who had nothing to do with the Fast and Furious franchise?
It’s obvious you’ve never seen any of those films. They’re not what you assume (or even what they used to be). They know exactly what they are and Lin does a pretty awesome job at making them as fun as possible.
You are right, in fact I’ve never seen a minute of any F&F movie, as I have no interest. What I should be saying is the action in Beyond reminds me of what I imagine the action is in those movies, all quick cuts, shaky-cam, confused geography, etc.
As much as I love JJ, this is essentially how the action played out in his Trek films. Lin is not much different in that regard (and honestly his FF movies are some of the more competently staged action pics in recent years, believe it or not).

Lin’s Trek is no more a big dumb action movie than JJ’s (if anything less so). I sort of miss JJ’s super stylized take but I couldn’t complain much about Lin’s even handed direction. My main problem with the film is that it feels somewhat inconsequential which of course is a lot due to the director but it seems strange to me to hate the film because of him. It’s still a lot of fun.
Well if the U-wing is more of a transport than a fighter, it’d make sense that it doesn’t appear in any battles. Then again it doesn’t look like a transport so who knows.
I’d rather be part of a vagina generation than a penis generation!
Reinstating the draft would keep future generations from becoming pussy generations.
Did you serve in the military?
I once saw a system that puts a subdivision within Gen-Y in 1993 to take into account how warped the kids with no memory of the time before ubiquitous high-speed internet have turned out. I have a sister born in 1992 who’s totally fine, and my good friend’s little brother was born in 1994 and is a fucking weirdo, so I’ve seen it in stark relief and I think there’s something to that.
Yeah, it’s weird. I fall pretty squarely near the middle of the Millennial generation (which makes me filth) but I will always have more in common with someone born in 1982 than someone born in 1996, despite being the same distance in years away from me. Constant internet access changed kids, man.
It’s weird. I was born in 1995 and yet I feel have more in common with those born in 1982 than in 1996.
Well I guess that’s probably an exaggeration but there is some truth to it. It’s more than just what year you were born, it depends on a lot of things. I didn’t really have full access to the internet until about 2007 or 2008 and didn’t have a smart phone until last year.
I guess this is the sort of thing that I hate most about talking about generations - sweeping generalizations.

Even as a millennial who has sex on occasion, I can’t help but approve of this article. Lot of truth there.
It’s funny how true it is actually. It used to be that teenagers and such wanted to grow up as quickly as possible (and having sex was a big way of proving that). But it’s kind of flipped now.
On the other hand, this might not completely be the case, because when you think about it millennials aren’t teenagers anymore so maybe it’s the transitioning into the adult world (and realizing that maybe it isn’t something they to happen as quickly as possible) that’s making them want to be kids again.
Suicide Squad is getting panned and hearing that made my day.
I’m glad someone finally admitted that they want certain movies to fail.
Well, yes. I hate the “2edgy4u” direction DC’s films are going in under the Dark Lord Snyder, and the sooner it fails, the sooner they have to reboot it all and hopefully not be embarrassed by the comic source material.
The edginess doesn’t bother me because for one they have to tonally differentiate themselves from Marvel. Secondly, if the writing is good it wouldn’t matter if it were dark or was even more lighthearted than Marvel films. I definitely agree with Dark Lord Dudebrah. After BvS it’s almost like jumping into a cauldron of magma to hire him again but if anything DC needs some new people making the executive decisions. They are the root of the issue.
Critically, Zach Snyder’s Superman movies have been flops, but financially they’ve done great. In the eyes of the producers, there’s no need to switch it up.
Critical reaction is important. If people hear a movie isn’t good, they honestly won’t go see it. Obviously with massive properties like Batman and Superman it’ll still make money but the numbers drop off quickly and they aren’t making nearly as much as they could.
The other problem is sequels. If they’re trying to build a universe and everyone thinks their movies are shit, people will stop coming and they will get some legit flops.
Glad we have experts around here like Dek to call Spielberg on his bullshit. I mean seriously, what does that guy know about Raiders of the Lost Ark anyway?
Ok “complete remake” is an overstatement but c’mon, they ripped off all of the best parts of Wrath of Kahn and focused more on fan service than making an original script.
There are more “best parts” to TWOK than just Spock’s death. Can’t think of what else they might have ripped. 95% of the script is original by the way. There’s just that one scene that could be considered fan service but I don’t think that’d really count as fan service because it’s only the fans who don’t like it. Making Khan the villain could qualify as fan service but his role in this script is completely different than before.
Leonard Neemoy’s final cameo was also very forced and poorly done which is a huge shame.
True but this is 30 seconds worth of a 2 hour film.
The only thing it remade entirely from ST II was the climactic death being done exactly line-for-line. Other than that, it’s more like a paranoid conspiracy theorist’s remake of the episode Space Seed.
The scene is mostly the same but “line-for-line” is just inaccurate. And there’s not much similarity to Space Seed beyond the mere presence of Khan.
Listen guys, STID isn’t perfect. Dislike it all you want, dislike the Khan stuff all you want. But to say that the whole film is a rip-off is just flat out not true. And I really don’t get how you could hate a whole movie for one scene and the name of the main villain. (I’m not saying this to anyone in particular.)
If you honestly think it’s a complete remake you either don’t know what a remake is or haven’t seen the film in awhile.
Read what Dom wrote.
WYSHS
Thanks love.
I agree with the other STID lovers. Not an amazing film but very solid and enjoyable. The TWOK comparisons are blown way out of proportion.
Beyond is better though even if the stakes never seem quite as high. Also unlike STID there’s not much of a moral/message but that’s no matter (though some thematic balls are dropped). It’s just very good fun.
I don’t mind a new creative team next time though I really hope they can maintain the quality.
