But I think they are asking us which ones we prefer…

There is an exactly zero percent chance of that. Online reactions are the last place they’ll be looking for feedback. We have almost no context for these takes and have no idea how they fit into the scene, the overall film, and these characterizations. The creatives in charge of the film and those at test screenings (to a lesser extent) are in a much better position to have an opinion. They’re not dumb enough to base their decision on line readings and such from uninformed fans.

This is beginning to feel less and less like a unique war movie.

Trailers, TV spots especially, can be very misleading.

Yub Nub is atrocious. It’s bad for the same reasons Jedi Rocks is bad. The new song is much, much better.

Lol no

What happened to respecting everyone’s opinions? Laughing doesn’t seem very respectful.

I didn’t say you have to respect everyone’s opinions. I said you don’t have to be a sarcastic jackass about it. In the thread I said that to you, the guy you were responding to simply said that he liked ROTJ as much as the other movies and you responded in a sarcastic jackass manner, as you always do. He didn’t say anything to disparage you or your opinions. His opinion was expressed politely and it was a positive, not negative, opinion. He didn’t deserve your bullshit. This guy on the other hand went on the attack by saying something was “atrocious,” so if you ask me he opened himself up for my dismissal, which was still less dickish than yours.

Look, I know you think you’re some kind of comic genius or something, but you’re actually just another asshole on the internet. You’re maybe 1% as funny as you think you are. If you toned it down a notch and used your “wit” sparingly, instead of literally every post you make, that would be fine. Instead you feel the need to demonstrate how “clever” you are at all times, which gets extremely old extremely quickly. And I can only imagine how many people it has driven away from this site, because it confirms the impression that it’s dominated by the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons.

Must have hit pretty close to the mark to get you all riled up like that.

Do you think there's a reason billy dee williams hasn't been announed for 8 or 9?
Time

I don’t buy the overweight answer. Billy Dee lost all his fat by doing Dancing with the Stars so that shouldn’t be a problem (not to mention Williams’s star power has only increased since '83, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXL2aONbh1g). The real reason he’s not in the ST is because Lando died escaping the Death Star II explosion at the end of ROTJ.

I am Joshing but I’ll site the identity crisis now and It’s due to it being complicated but I hope they can handle it better somehow at the last moment as the film does look really good.

Dominic Cobb

Don’t forget to add the last part where I explained that I was “Joshing” that means joking around I am pretty calm and having a giggle. I’m not that serious about it.

I didn’t quote the last sentence because it didn’t make any sense (what identity crisis? what being complicated?) and it was unclear to me what if anything you were “Joshing” about. I assumed you meant about doing away with the end credits too but it seemed like the rest of your post was quite serious in its misguided criticism of a film no one has seen yet.

As far as stylistic format departure goes we now are heading for “Like any other movie would do it” bog standard so if you want / need labels on stuff. To me it’s not been thought through well enough to convey the information well enough to avoid the labels. It’s a small but very significant loss in how one should tell a Star Wars Story.

Whats next? “Memento Star Wars” tell it in reverse chronological order?

When they said Rogue one won’t have an opening crawl they should have also added it will have captions for the planets do away with the wipes and the the format will be nothing like how Star Wars is normally. Get rid of A long time ago in a galaxy far far away while you are at it. Do we really need the end credits also?

You really need to calm down. It’s a stylistic choice, plain and simple. I bet you anything if you removed those planet headers it wouldn’t make a lick of difference. Putting the word “Jedha” on the screen, for instance, isn’t going to tell you jack shit. All the necessary information will be conveyed otherwise, I’m sure.

As with the removal of the crawl (which, wait a second, the crawl is all about conveying information with text? at least be fucking consistent in your complaints) and the absence of wipes, this is a pure presentational change that will do much to give the film a different feel. I’m sorry that you can’t handle it but the fact that this film will be a huge stylistic departure from the saga films has been advertised since day one. Maybe you’ve had your fingers in your ears for the last couple years, but this has always been the case. Hope you can get over yourself in time for the film’s premiere.

SW generally hasn’t had captions to introduce planets - it would kind of clash with Lucas’ preferred cinema verité aesthetic used in the OT.

I don’t know if I’d really call Lucas’s preferred aesthetic cinema verite. Star Wars is about as far from something like say a Cassavetes film as you can get, stylistically. Certainly some things were inspired by documentary filmmaking but let’s not forget that documentaries use captions all the time.

Once again we’ve fallen into the trap of comparing a presentational element of this film with previous SW films. Rogue One is a stylistic departure so all bets are off when it comes to tradition. Many war films use location headers so RO would be keeping in line with them if it did as well.

The Message ... What, if anything, did you take away from it?

The message I took away was “I wasn’t loved enough as a child and now I think it’s funny to be a prat on the Internet because I have literally nothing else to do with my life.”

I wouldn’t go that far. 234 wasn’t mean spirited, looked he was just trying to have a laugh. I think of a troll more as someone who’s trying to fuck with people by making fun of them or insulting them to get them angry. 234 was just sort of silly and fun. I’d bet a lot of people post here because they’re bored, and I think that reasoning extends to most socks as well.

I’m in the middle of this year’s 2016 Turkey Day MST3K marathon so I can’t look it up but I believe the Maul eyes were from the animatic that Spielberg made to choreograph the chase on Utapau.

Spielberg?

Roger Spielberg, noted animatic director.

Ah, right. I though that maybe you just accidentally wrote (Steven) Spielberg instead if Lucas.

No, Steven is correct.
