The project is 8+ years old. Just let that sink in for a moment.

It’s POSSIBLE that JMOW wasn’t born when the project started.

i’m 31 jerk

i’m not lying i’m dead serious

I haven’t been going out of my way to avoid spoilers, but even without any amount of vigilance I’m going into this one a lot cleaner than I did for TFA.

Same. Should be fun.

I don’t know if that shot list that leaked for TFA early on was a blessing or a curse, because having a good idea what to expect well in advance probably allowed me to enjoy it a lot more than some of the folks who felt blindsided or cheated by how safe the filmmakers played things. In any case, this is a much different experience and I’m enjoying it immensely.

I never heard of a shot list but would be curious to see what it looks like after the fact. Though most of the specifics of TFA were unspoiled for me beforehand (besides some little things that I saw by accident on social media), the general direction the story took was more or less what I had predicted all along, so it didn’t really bother me either.

But, besides Rogue One’s overall premise and what some of the characters look like, I really don’t have much of an idea of what will happen. Quite exciting.

And to top it off, it was missing the hallmark wipes / dissolves from the original saga.

This is, however, untrue.

I should’ve clarified. There are wipes / dissolves, but they’re of a much different type (i.e smoke dissolve from Finalizer to Jakku). It’s nice to see a new twist on that aspect, but you know… fans are never happy.

Well the majority of the wipes are pretty similar to the OT: http://scifi.stackexchange.com/a/124610

Am I the only one who was irked with the cinematography in the film? Certain shots felt very awkwardly framed and placed, and the use of ‘dutch angles’ and ‘whip pans’ was incredibly annoying. Nothing I saw on the screen felt reminiscent of the camera work done on OT nor the PT, which I believe shared mostly similar visual traits. It felt too “flashy”, as did most of the effects in the film.

Fair enough. JJ has his own way of shooting things which I really appreciate but it is different from the OT.

And to top it off, it was missing the hallmark wipes / dissolves from the original saga.

This is, however, untrue.

I think modern movies in general make too many rapid cuts in quick succession, rather than letting the camera stay in one place or move around as needed. Quick cuts from shot to shot seem to have become a crutch to hold audiences’ attention in place of good writing or acting.

Your analysis of modern movies in general is true but TFA does not fit that bill. TFA actually has a LOT of shots that move around uncut and accomplish things that typical movies nowadays would do with multiple shots and cuts.

Congrats! What was your field of study?

Thanks. Film and TV. Not really a typical “study,” and probably a college experience very different from most. For me, my classes were almost secondary to the projects and internships I was doing simultaneously, so in many ways I guess I feel like finishing them is just one less thing for me to do. But still it’s very much the end of an era for me, after having been in school for basically all my life!

All done with school forever (probably).

My jealousy cannot be quantified. Congrats!

Thanks, you’ll be there sooner than you realize.

Congrats! It’s a good feeling, no?

It’s weird but it doesn’t feel like anything right now. I’m sure it’ll sink in at some point. I think part of it is that this past semester was pretty easy with no really tough assignments that weighed on me.

You got a job lined up yet?

(If so, I hate you)

You’ll be happy to hear that no I don’t, though there are some prospects.

I didn’t think Brendan was that old. 😉

lol

I’ve heard conflicting reports about which movie this one’s based on; I’ve heard that it’s a reboot of the 1932 Boris Karloff Mummy, but I’ve also heard that it’s a reboot of the 1999 Stephen Sommers Mummy.

If Wikipedia’s to be believed, the 1999 Mummy was already a remake of the 1932 Mummy. So this new one may be a reboot of both.

Or maybe its a reboot of the 1959 Mummy.

It’s probably just Universal making a movie with the title “The Mummy” because they own the rights to it and are wanting to create a shared Universal Monsters universe (of which “Dracula Untold” was supposed to be the first).

Yeah that’s actually it. Doubt it really has much connection with any previous Mummys.
