I think I have something in my eye…
I think I have something in my eye…
Whole slate of “Journey to The Last Jedi” books. Most are kids stuff or reference books, but Claudia Gray is doing another Leia book and there’s a new Luke book too which might be interesting.
I honestly don’t think George’s beating heart has jack shit to do with any of it, I doubt anyone cares about “not releasing the originals out of respect to him” and the idea some have floated that it might have been in the deal he signed with Disney is simply ludicrous.
Ultimately, I think the real enemy here is simply just apathy and indifference on the part of whoever makes the distribution decisions (which might overlap with the rights issues).
One thing that’s interesting is there’s no way these new filmmakers haven’t brought the OOT up (I know Rian Johnson is on record for criticizing them). I wonder if they know the lowdown and if they’re privy to versions we aren’t.
Damn, shoulda asked Rian about that when I met him…
Is Rian Johnson criticizing the OOT, or the people? Who is ‘them’? also do you have a link? I’d love to see what he has to say as i really like his movie, and am stoked he is helming TLJ.
Sorry I fucked up my wording, them refers to the SEs, NOT the OOT.
Rian basically called the SEs “cartoons” around the time the Blu-rays were coming out. Don’t have a link on hand.

I love how anyone ever calling out your bullshit will forever be dubbed “the posse.” It’s kind of cute.
Sounds like Phasma’s getting a Marvel miniseries as well.
Probably safe to say her TLJ role will be quite a bit bigger than her TFA one.
Fo, you just can’t help yourself from attacking Frink, can you?
I’m really not sure just how significant that number is. Even if it is fairly sizable, I’m sure it’s still a minority, and it still doesn’t stop most of them from actually buying and watching the movies. If they’re truly casual fans it’s highly unlikely they’re even aware there are alternatives on this site.
Well I suppose when you consider how incredibly massive the number of Star Wars fans there are they might be a minority, but yeah I’d say it’s still fairly sizable. Sure I doubt most are unaware of the alternatives and have no problem sucking up the SEs (though Harmy’s work has gained some decent notoriety through the web), but I’m sure a great many would be willing to fork over cash if the original versions were presented.
I personally don’t really care about an author’s previous work, I usually just wait until the book comes out and see if people are saying it’s good.
^The problem with this is that there is a not insignificant number of casual fans who are aware of the changes, whether or not they really care all that much about them (though I’d say a fair amount of them don’t like them).
Oooooh very interesting
It’s tricky because trailers do spoil. But there is a question of where that line gets crossed.
I wish there was some way to just speculate in a vacuum completely devoid of any real info from the film. But obviously as it gets closer that’s really impossible to do on a forum like this.
Don’t mind me, I’ll be on my way.
Either Luke has a lesson to learn - that the Jedi are ultimately necessary and not a root cause of suffering/evil - or 😦
Sounds to me like they have a little learning to do from each other - Rey needs Luke for her training, but old Luke needs the youthful Rey to give him back a little hope…
As Max von Tekka (sic) said “Without the Jedi, there can be no balance in the Force…”
Is trailer talk spoiler talk? I realize some might not think so. If it isn’t I’ll just step out of the TLJ threads entirely.
I do want to say, about the “balance in the Force” line, I’ve been thinking recently that that might be the single most significant PT reference in TFA, even though so many miss or or forget about it. The PT never really explained what it meant though it’ll be really interesting to see if TLJ and/or IX explores the concept with more depth.
I love the poster idea but I’m not totally sold on the execution.
Wrong! Sad!
Did people miss this? It’s kind of slight, but it’s a series of animated shorts, featuring the actresses reprising their roles, that’ll be put on Youtube and then as a TV special:
http://www.starwars.com/news/rey-ahsoka-tano-and-more-iconic-heroes-to-star-in-new-star-wars-forces-of-destiny-animated-micro-series
I imagine it’ll probably be aimed at young audiences and they are really short (2-3 minutes) but it’s still a cool little concept.
Since I’m not watching the trailer, I’m firing this thread up again to say this
is one of the coolest Star Wars posters I’ve seen in a long time. Glad the minimal logo and stars one isn’t the only teaser poster like last time.
All issues already discussed in far too much detail after the post you quoted.
Yup
“Nuh-uh!” “Uh-huh!” “Nuh-uh!” “Uh-huh!” “Nuh-uh!” “Uh-huh!” “Nuh-uh!” "Uh-huh!"
Glad to see this thread is still the same 'ol thing.Any thread with Alderaan in it will turn that way. His petulance is legendary.
Pro tip: it really works him over the most when you ignore all of his I-just-can’t-help-myself replies.
FTFY
They’re playing Leia’s theme live conducted by John Williams
Oh fuck
The Mummy
The Fate of the Furious
One good, one bad (not respectively).
Either that or some sort of new artwork for TLJ.
Are they currently still using the SW logo on a star field as the main poster? Maybe they’ll announce the official release poster art.
The TFA theatrical poster didn’t come out until October.
You don’t have to be an ass about it.
I see you’ve met Alderaan.
Speaking of which, the Clintonites have their pitchforks out for Tulsi Gabbard of all people. Failed political practitioner Neera Tanden and disgraced former governor Howard Dean both calling for her to resign from Congress, all because she asked for caution and an investigation into recent events in Syria before taking military action.
Iraq. WMDs. Any of this ring a bell?
These Clinton schmucks are the absolute worst.

It’s very strange that I couldn’t find any press on that, but ok.
Silly Frink, didn’t you know the press is nothing more than propaganda?
Remember the black stormtrooper outrage? That was because a lot of people though stormtroopers were clones because of the prequels.
Hm. I’m thinking maybe it has a little more in common with the female heroine outrage than you’re letting on, but that’s another topic.
Oh no I’m totally with you there but the clone thing was their excuse, and, whether excuse or not, it still meant they most likely honestly thought stormtroopers were clones.
Frankly prequel fans are used to the Star Wars universe not making any sense. Leaving out prequel references when they could be inserted couldn’t possibly be more disruptive than the prequels themselves.
I personally prefer to see it as references to the happenings before the OT that just so happen to not contradict the story the PT told. That’s my philosophy on the whole topic anyway.
