All my posts are evergreen.
It’s just like people making suggestions to adywan after he’s said he’s not taking anymore - it’s very tedious and bogs down the discussion with irrelevant posts that will always receive the same response… “that idea is beyond the scope of this edit.”
Considering how little we know about the film, I don’t think we can reasonably say that it is an “origin” story.
More importantly, it’s common for a good story to show growth in its main character. If the film were to do that, I guess that would make it an “origin” story, in the sense that by the end he has become more like the Han Solo in the OT just by default, but I’d probably prefer that to a film where he’s just the exact same person as in the original film, especially considering he’s not the exact same person across the trilogy - to that end, is ANH not already a Han Solo origin movie?

Seems just about perfect to me.
It’s not really the purpose of the edit to add or remove character moments unrelated to the Starkiller Restructure, but I always read this exchange as Finn almost ready to admit that he wasn’t a part of the Resistance, at least until they were distracted and he changed his mind.
Yeah I thought that was pretty clear. I don’t know why people keep requesting completely random, subjective removals when it’s been clearly stated a number of times that that is not what this edit is about.
“I refuse to own a hypothetical, non-existent movie regardless of quality, even if it is given to me as a gift.” You’re right, no need to explain, you’ve told us all we need to know about your sanity.
Alright, I wanted to get this out before I called it a night but my computer was acting up so I didn’t have any time to make it pretty, but here’s a very rough idea of what could be done with the music:
https://vimeo.com/245147530
password: huxThat’s pretty cool. Which cue is that? I like the part from 0:13 and after. I think before that the Snoke music could stay as it is. And then maybe the new cue could come in slightly earlier so the brass part begins after “once and for all” but before “prepare the weapon”.
The music is just what was in the scene that got taken out (Torn Apart, although the first half is from the OST and isn’t in the film). The problem, I think, with the Snoke music is that it kinda kills the pacing.
As for the end of it, I made a point to line up the cue with where it lands in the film itself (so that when we cut back to Rey and Finn you can pretty much just use the original audio). Coincidentally, this lined up perfectly with the beginning of the cue that just followed the original audio from before we cut away to Snoke.
If there was some way to shorten this scene I think there’s another, possibly better way the music could go.

Anyone have any ideas for a brief musical sting for the ending of the Snoke scene? I’ll have to skim the OST and see what I can find.
Don’t know if you missed this:
Here’s another attempt at that little scene. I added some faint distant explosion sounds when we cut back to Finn and Rey, as well as using audio of Finn breathing heavily from earlier in the film (as in the previous clip I posted). I tried to thread the needle with the music as we transition into Snoke, and I think it’s much better than the initial mockup.

This is great, one of the things I’m baffled they didn’t do themselves. My one note is that the hyperspace jump sounds are a both maybe a little loud.
I think this idea is best for V2, at least. I remember really liking Neverar’s first attempt at this when he originally posted it. Snoke and Hux basically say “The Republic is destroyed, and now we can destroy the Resistance!”, and I think it shows how useful Starkiller base is. They can destroy all their enemies at once, from across the galaxy. The Republic, the Resistance, and finally Luke (if they had ever discovered his hiding place). And with the First Order apparently being smaller than the Empire, it makes seem smarter. I think it also shows that Snoke does play a part in these machinations, rather than Hux just playing off Snoke’s fears. Here is his original version
Alternate take on Snoke and friends:
https://vimeo.com/221526067
Password: huxI think going back to this simpler idea is good, but it might be worth trying to get closer to Neverar’s original dialogue. Instead of Hux saying, “The Republic, it is wreckage” you might be able to piece together the word “destroyed” from “destroy” and “droid”, then you could have “We [have] destroyed the Republic” or something similar. Hux says both ‘we’ and ‘have’ in the second Snoke scene. Cutting words together like this can be really jarring and noticeable, but it might be worth the attempt.
That actually works pretty well, though you’re right “wreckage” is the one thing that kills it.

This is nice and fits emotionally, but the fact that Yoda’s theme is used so heavily is a massive no no to me, unfortunately. Anyway, I think the cue that’s used there doesn’t sound completely victorious anyway, it’s got a bit of bittersweetness to it in my opinion.
HELL YES! Really hoping AVENGERS: Infinity War is nearly or over 180 minutes.
Ooh boy no thanks.
I’d rather have three hours of THE AVENGERS (both comic book/MCU and that 1960s telly show, very well everything) rather than Star Wars. I shit you not.
I got tired sitting through the 2.5 hour Ultron, so I’m leery of something longer. The MCU literally didn’t exist when I was 10 years old.
I don’t aspire to win anything from Frink. If anything it’s the other way around. For example, he sent me an email two days ago and I still haven’t responded. Gotta put him in his place.

I don’t see what’s so hard to believe. Guy’s always seemed like an asshole, and I thought that was the word on the street about him anyway. The leap from asshole to harasser is not a big one.
Yeah, obviously.

I once was in a random conversation with a complete stranger where I mentioned I was a big Star Wars fan. He asked me how I felt about the fact that George Lucas wasn’t involved in the new movies anymore, which made me worry about what direction he was bringing this talk, but when I said that I felt like Lucas had his time and that now it was the next generation of filmmakers’ turn to tell their stories in the universe, he pleasantly surprised me by agreeing completely, which was nice.
The Hollywood Reporter just posted this short clip about Mark discussing the Wampa scene on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/THR/status/935258761769320449
The clip they show is from the unaltered version of the scene, and the presenter notes that the Special Edition version (she actually says the words “Special Edition”) is much more graphic. I’m pretty sure that’s exactly why they use the OUT instead of the SE for the video, but I still found it kind of neat that an outlet like the Hollywood Reporter would bother going into any amount of detail about SE differences in 2017.
I’m 90% sure they just downloaded and used this video straight from Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6o2WX4crxg), which would actually make it the DSE, not the GOUT.
And I’m not super surprised, the kind of people working on these things are pop culture fans - which, for the most part, means Star Wars fans - and most fans know about the SE and the differences. Plus it was a video about a tweet so they had to add additional info to pad it out.
And the final run time is 151 minutes, so the “2h30m” talk that’s been going around wasn’t rounding up or down very much at all.
Hasn’t the runtime been known for a while? When I bought my tickets in early October it was listed as exactly that - 151 minutes.
Boy is one of my four favorite U2 albums.
Probably number five for me.
I like every album they’ve done though.
Same. I’m gearing up for their next.
I am leaning toward this ‘alternate, older’ solution, so I’d say hold off an doing work yourself unless we determine it’s that route or bust.
To be clear, I agree the older solution is better, but I think the clip you just posted needs work too.
Meanwhile, here’s an earnest attempt at an earlier, alternate solution to this problem:

I honestly think this would be a lot better (though I think the transitions need some work).
In terms of the other way around, I think your initial mock up from earlier today is still the best way to go about it (though the audio on that third transition would need minor adjustments).
If you feel like you need help with either in terms of smoothing transitions, that might be something I could help with (to be clear, I’d rather not, just because I’m a little busy in general and I know you guys want this out soon, but I will help if needed).
