I’ve been told I look like a certain member of the Avengers.

Hawkeye

Why not Thor? Captain America? Falcon? Bruce Banner? Tony? Is it because Hawkeye looks most like someone who would belong to a Star Wars fan site?

Does he?

I think he might.

So I was right?

Then again I wouldn’t have expected JFK Wahlberg 😉

I will say I think JFK is pretty offbase.

Last night I finally saw the one movie from before I was born that I’ve been trying to see ever since I started going to see movies from before I was born.

You may know it by its other title, The Greatest Film Ever Made, but I personally like to call it E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.

Dee Wallace’s caboose is nice, but not that nice.

Enlightening.

Not interested in posting a picture, mostly because there are no good pictures of me.

But I will let you know what I look like by telling you all the celebrities I can remember that people at some point have said I look like (after which presumably one of you will make a composite picture of these guys that will look just like me):

  • I get Mark Wahlberg most often, When I meet a new person there’s a 50/50 chance they’ll mention the resemblance
  • I’ve gotten Matt Damon a few times
  • JGL a handful of times
  • Nick Jonas couple times
  • one of the members of One Direction (no idea which)
  • JFK once
  • one or two others I’m forgetting

It did not disappoint. Tears were shed. Would see in theaters again ASAP.

  • I really like the force theme during Anakin and Obi-Wan’s final talk. What track is it from?

Somehow I forgot to reply to this, but it’s actually from the last track on the ROTS soundtrack, the end credits suite (trivia - originally written as part of the Star Wars concert suite program which I guess Williams wanted to include at the end of the ROTS soundtrack for posterity).

Why did Obi-Wan lie about not knowing R2? I know that it’s because the prequels were written after the OT and it was a mistake, but what’s the canon justification? I’m just curious.

He actually never says he doesn’t know R2.

He also never gives any indication of knowing him, or C-3PO. I would be bothered by that if I took the prequels seriously.

I mean I don’t deny that, it’s just weird to frame the question as why does “Obi-wan lie about not knowing R2?” when it really should be “why doesn’t Obi-wan seemingly make any recognition of R2?”

A lie by omission is still a lie. Also, why did R2 do the same thing? His memory wasn’t erased like 3PO’s was.

It’s still weird to think that he’s being purposefully misleading, if anything it plays more like he legitimately doesn’t recognize him (not saying it’s not dumb). As for R2, who knows what he’s saying.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

My favorite class-required read. I’m tempted to steal this class copy.

I listened to Frankenstein recently, and I wasn’t very keen on it. For one thing the monster seemed so very eloquent with his speech, which broke my immersion because a being who had no understanding of language at all not so long ago (and who said he learned language simply from spying on a particular family) should have language skills that are rudimentary at best. This among other issues. The story just didn’t captivate me.

Dracula, on the other hand, was fantastic.

I’d rather read “I ought to be thy Adam, but I am thy fallen angel,” than “eeeeuuurrgghhhhh.”

As I said, he could have language, but he ought to struggle with it. “Thee”'s, “thy”'s and “thou”'s from such a character, and in paragraphs and pages of unbroken eloquent speech, just weren’t believable from an uneducated mind such as his.

Those words weren’t fancy at the time.

If you are using Premiere and having issues with exporting audio transitions, then I would try just key framing the problematic transitions instead. I have had issues like that before and that solved it. Not sure about other NLE’s though.

Yeah, that’s what I’m going to have to do. I’d say 95% of my audio transitions are keyframed already and the other 5% are using transition effects. Never had this problem before (which is weird, I literally use Premiere everyday) so I didn’t think anything of it, though I guess I should have just stayed consistent in the first place.

Alright. Here’s my review. Keep in mind that I don’t have the Blu-Ray/Hal’s edit memorized but here’s all of the changes I could find and my opinion on them. Without a changelist I’m going to assume that a million invisible edits will fly right under my nose. 😃

The list:

  • Different recording used for the crawl. This is a cool change but I don’t know if this recording was the best choice, the ANH whistle bit can still be heard after the crawl but it’s overlapping with Sith’s music and in my opinion doesn’t work. I’d cut the ANH track right when the drums start.

Yeah I actually had it like that for awhile but last minute on this I decided to add back the piccolo solo, just out of curiosity to see if it worked. I think I mixed it too low though, but also I don’t think I’m loving it.

The crawl is certainly flexible and I’m keeping these sorts of things in mind, though not necessarily following these kinds of rules to a T (although looking at that again, I’m not sure which rules I’ve broken?). It is on the long side, but the word count is 88, which is the same as TFA, though all the others are high 70s, low 80s, so I am looking to possibly cut down a bit.

As for the original crawl faintly visible, damn. I just zoomed in and boosted the brightness on my screen, and you’re totally right. Never noticed.

  • At around 1:42 there is a white bar on the right side of the frame.

I noticed that, skimming though. Think it was an export error? Not sure.

  • I like the music cue used when Anakin and Obi-Wan destroy some droids, but the original score can still be heard while the actual ships are landing

I’m aware, though I kind of think they work together - although I’m not sure if I think that just because I’m used to it at this point. This is definitely the kind of thing I’d like to hear from people if it needs changing or not.

  • At 21:14 at the balcony scene there’s some weird audio effect happening with Padme’s voice.

Good catch.

  • I would have cut the midichlorians mention.

Honestly forgot that was in there. Might have to do that.

  • Music editing gets kinda weird at 1:32:25

Yeah, it’s a tricky transition that needs a bit more work, and I think this whole little segment is mixed a little too loud.

  • At 5:27 there is a nasty bit of audio in the left channel.

  • At 25:31 there’s weird audio in the left channel. Again at 25:36.

  • Music gets weird in left channel at 1:41:35

Ughh, the fuck… This kind of thing really freaks me out, this was all fine in the sequence and I’ve done multiple exports of the whole edit and this has never happened before. Don’t know why, but I’m pretty sure this is actually a glitch with the audio transition effect I’m using on these tracks. So hopefully it’s an easy fix, though unfortunately I’m afraid there may be more instances of fucked up audio like this in there.

Apologies to all I’ve sent this out to because there’s some honestly really dumb issues in this (though nothing crazy enough that you it’s a problem to watch). None of my previous exports were this glitchy, just some bad luck that you guys have to be subjected to it. Very annoying.

I will also say that I’ve noticed the wipe transition is slightly mis-timed at 25:30 (of course this is another issue that has seemingly popped out of nowhere, which is concerning). There’s also a bit of gray at the bottom of the first deleted scene, but that one’s actually my bad.

Anyway, thanks for the notes and kind words!

This is why everybody hates rich people.

Um…sure.

Well, it’s why I hate rich people. All they do is live comfortably and pretend to care about people. When I get rich I’m just going to live comfortably and have the decency to openly not give a shit about anybody.

That’s how 99% of rich people are anyway.

I’m going to go on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and scream at the animatronics like I have schizophrenia. It’s my form of protest.

Don’t forget to make a video of it. And also to film vertically.

Actually you shouldn’t film vertically. it might seem easier to hold your phone that way, but it is actually quite annoying to watch things that were filmed that way. There is a thing referred to as Vertical Video Syndrome and i fear you have it.

=p

I think you knew I was being non-serious, but answered as though I was.

I’m happy he did, because that video is great.

Oh, I see how it is! When I post the video in response to something, nobody bats an eye, but when “That’s a lotta” Dahmage posts it, it’s the best thing since Bread was a good time for me! 😉

what?

It is joke. I posted a link to that video in response to something (I don’t remember what but it was a few weeks ago) and I don’t think anyone responded. Sorry for confusion my dude.

For what it’s worth, I noticed.
