One comment from the consumer’s perspective: For me it’s more important to have a synced product than how it was synced. Unless I’ve overseen it, nobody has bothered so far to sync the dubs to 4K83. So I’m very happy that CatBus now has done it the other way round.
FWIW, I plan to release a GOUT-synced 4K83 to address all the sync issues with not only dubs, but any other GOUT-synced audio tracks (Laserdisc rips, in-theatre recordings, etc) that people may have collected over the last 26 years since the Definitive Collection Laserdiscs came out and became the primary thing to sync to.

Is there any place that goes into which audio tracks are included in the 4K83 ISO? I can’t seem to find the track info anywhere in this thread. There seems to be more audio tracks in the ISO than in the MKV file, and I want to make a smaller version of the ROTJ scan that just has 2 or 3 of the better audio tracks.
As someone pointed out at Myspleen, these are included in the iso:

Just to tie up the sync discussion, which is continuing over in the GOUT sync thread, Discostu has pointed out, and I’ve confirmed, that the sync difference of two frames is noticeable in at least the German dub, which does a lot better lip-matching than most dubs. But now that we know that, it’s hard to know if we can really draw a bright line and declare any dubs at all to be immune to a noticeable two-frame sync difference. So if you want to sync with 4k83, you do need to edit the audio, regardless of what the audio is. Or trim two frames from the video.
Could someone provide me with a manual how to easily trim the audio to fit? I still have this sitting on my hard drive and would like to synch, mux and burn it to replace the Despecialized Edition.
Re: German dubs. Short story: No adjustment is necessary.
I hoped so and muxed the file with 4K83. But while it seamlessly syncs with ROTJ DE 2.5 there is is a noticeable asynchronicity in 4K83. It’s for example quite obvious in the scene where Leia tells Han that Luke is her brother. But if you are sure that there shouldn’t be a noticeable delay, then maybe I should just try it again.

When there are on-screen alien subtitles, could your subtitles be placed just above/below them rather than at the very top of the screen? If the alien subs are actually on the picture, then your subs could go in the black bar just underneath and vice versa?
Subtitles should never be in the black bars because they become invisible when someone projects the film in its original aspect ratio.
The changelog (such as it is, I’m not terribly detailed about it) is on page 52. If you’re interested only in a particular language/type of subtitle, that may make the answer easier.
Thanks. I’m mainly interested in German and English. Nice that there are native German subtitles now. But I mainly asked because I want to burn ESB Dreamastered on Blu-ray tomorrow and I obviously won’t need them for that.

George Lucas says that he already wanted the first Star Wars to be named Episode IV when it was originally released because it was the adaptation of the middle section of an extensive script he had written. But I am not sure how much truth is in that.

I guess you would need a script so you know how to summarise the complex parts and what more general topics (e.g. color correction, matching the different frame rates etc.) you can talk about in the other parts. Besides, it’s not unusual for commentary tracks to have silent passages.
Just checked, I just knew by now that Return of the Pug hasn’t been released yet.
When Return of the Pug is released, I think we should add the mono sound from that version.
Just so the Original Trilogy is finally complete in mono.
One of the main reasons I want a mono mix for ROTJ is because I was weirded out by the fact that SW and TESB both have mono mixes while ROTJ doesn’t.
Are you also weirded out by Nosferatu being available as a silent movie and Dracula Untold only being sold with sound?
Blu-rays are in 24 fps, they don’t need to duplicate frames because of framerate.
Will there be 1080p downscales of both the DNR and the noisy version?

Depends on your taste. This one has overall better quality, looks like a Blu Ray but is in many places only a recreation of the original version. TN1 has less detail, looks more like film projection than Blu Ray and is 100 % original Star Wars 1977.

In part even higher quality than the negative I guess, because he is also correcting problems that are on every print and probably also on the negative (e.g. the yellow blobs present in the Tatooine footage)
