Hello all!

I have a few questions about older versions and plans for future versions of the the Despecialized trilogy as a whole.

Would this be a good thread to use, or is there another place better suited to that more generalized topic than the Star Wars thread?

I think this is the right place.

DESPECIALIZED EDITION QUALITY CONTROL THREAD - REPORT ISSUES HERE

I think the shot in ROTJ where R2D2 has black panels instead of blue ones needs an update. At least looking at the comparison gallery it seems like the droid is totally monochrome in GOUT (with the exception of the red light) and in full color on the Blu-Ray. So now it is somewhere in between with just the panels being black again. If this is true a 35mm scan should be used for this shot.

And what would be the point of making 70mm prints in the first place, if they didn’t have better detail?

Marketing? There is no real good reason to release a film shot on 35mm on 70mm prints as far as I know. Same today with regularly shot films released in IMAX theatres. But the audiences think it’s better and pay more.

thanks for all the work you have done all these years. im still on spleen downloading.
so the current final version are:
SW 2.5
ESB 2.0
ROTJ 2.5

it that right?

Yes.

and can anyone says what is a grindhouse version of a film? i never get that…

Team Negative1 scan original 35mm versions of Star Wars. If the scanned print is very used and the scan hasn’t been cleaned up yet, they call it a Grindhouse version.

I’ve always wondered whether there’s a massive difference between 720p and 1080p, especially for a film like SW. Looks great as it is!

It depends on your equipment.

And on the quality of the source material. The current release by tn1 doesn’t lose much when reencoded to 720p but the Technicolor scan they are working on seems to have much more detail.

I am messing around with the Team Negative1 35mm Silver Screen edition trying to synch it to Harmy’s. Is Harmy’s GOUT synched? I read that it might be. Just wanted to be sure.

Yes it is. There is already a gout synched 720p reencode of this on the spleen that contains some of the DE audio and subtitle options.

Krieg der Sterne - Despecialized Edition 2.7 (German) (Released)
Time

My last info is that Harmy is trying to release the new version for Episode VI some time later this year but he can't promise he'll manage it. After that a new version of Episode V will be his next goal but nobody knows when this will be available.

Any details about audio tracks for the German release only Laserschwert himself can answer.

That is not what the BD looks like. But if there were scenes looking like that, I would simply add some grain.

While this would make the picture look more natural at first glance, it doesn't bring back the image detail that was lost in the DNR process. I know that there are some cases in the trilogy where you added digital grain but I don't really see a real benefit in this. It's just adding something artificial to the image instead of bringing back the original grain and the image details that were removed with it.
