Neither their eyes nor their accent bear any resemblance to an Asian stereotype.

You’re joking right? Please tell me you’re joking…

Why didn’t you refute my statement with actual proof instead of just linking to what we’re talking about right now?

And if they all talked with a California surfer accent, nobody would even notice the eyes.

That brings up another thing. Why are only certain stereotypes/caricatures considered ‘racist’, while others are given a free pass with no crap? For example, in the animated film Flushed away, there is an American stereotype (a fat Texan with a thick southern accent, and he knows nothing about British culture and is generally dull). Do I find this stereotype offensive (being an American)? No, I find it funny, because I get the joke. (This part is kind of off topic, sorry 😄)

I think another example of something that speaks poorly about things here … is that the TeamNegative1 thread is still in the announcements. Since the matter was decided upon there is no good reason I can see for it to remain … it seems almost childish … like the site is still sticking it’s proverbial tongue at people because somehow it “destroyed the most hated team of people” on the Internet.

Last time I checked there are still people who are clueless, if not misinformed about what happened. (We also have someone who’s made a very disturbing post on social media recently who thinks we have done TN1 a terrible wrong. About as close to making a personal threat as you can get away with.) Does this site not have the right to keep the facts in public view?

If you think that announcement should come down, please talk to Jay about it.

Jay has already publicly told me how he felt about how I felt so I take that as his final word on the matter. That thread does not display all the relevant information regarding the situation so it is itself a bit misleading. I did not know about the threat. That said, I do believe the site should take a positive stand towards it, not a negative one, we aren’t just a bunch of cavemen living in their parents basements are we? Okay maybe I am, LOL, but that’s an entirely different discussion.

Why are you still tying yourself in a knot over that threads continuing existence? Frink and I already gave our words on why it should stay last time you complained about this.

Help Wanted: '2001: A Space Odyssey' - 35mm Preservation (original 1968 prints obtained) (* unfinished project *)

Technically (and not taking the quality of said transfers into account), you would be correct. But, I love 35mm grain. That, the contrast, and of course, the color, would be the most enjoyable way to watch. It’s my preference. Also, even though the BD is transferred from the ON, it probably has a good level of DNR (not scrubbed, though).

The issue really isn’t whether or not the file was made for BD compatibility or not. Even if we didn’t care about that, it would still be rendered with the same aspect ratio (vlc would just add it like it does for 4:3 video). Even if there was more than just you requesting this, the logical thing to do is release the intact film. You can come along and do whatever you want to it. But if it was released the way you want, there would be no way for the thousands if people who want it intact to uncrop it. Does that make sense?

I think you are misunderstanding his original post. He never complained that the video wasn’t cropped for the preservation. He was stating that he wanted to crop it himself in VLC, but the letterbox didn’t allow him to easily accomplish that goal. He didn’t understand why the letterbox was needed, rather than making the video 1920x816, so that a straight crop can be done. So yes, it has everything to do with BD compatibility.
