Would inspecting the coding on a commercial BD that uses it help? I honestly don’t know what people have tried, and it’s a little past my knowledge to try myself.
I’ve heard lots of talk about not being able to figure out seamless branching in various projects here, but is seamless branching on a BD drastically different from that of a DVD. I know the software is different but I have no ideas about how they differ. I’m bringing this up because if they aren’t too different, one could ask Booshman how it works, since he used it on his Superman II: RDC Redux.

My internal organs have about 90 trees sprouting out!
As for the pillarbox issue, maybe a dark starry background could work? Dragonball Z Kai episodes air on Toonami windoboxed this way.
There must a be a good high res image of a Star Wars starfield out there.
Oh, God no! Not that!
People, think of it this way:
What does the letter-boxing on the DeEd segments look like? Solid Black Bars. Why does the 4:3 pillar-boxing need to be presented differently to fit 16:9. It’s practically the same thing, just on the other sides.
I don’t know about you guys, but to me Harmy’s sky looks just as blue as it does on a clear day up hear in North Dakota. Not gray. No, it’s not the deep almost purplish blue that it is on the laserdisc image, but it’s definitely blue, a light sky blue, whether intended or not.
One of our members here tracked down a rare 1982 LPP of Raiders. There were only 200 made for the '82 re-release. It was mastered from the same 35mm materials as the 1981 prints only unlike the '81 prints there is no fading. As usual the only thing stopping us is the approximately $600 to $750 it costs to scan it. So would anyone be interested?
I saw this old post from September, and was wondering if anything ever happened with this print. Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of my favorite films, and I’ve been waiting for a 35mm scan to happen, so that it can have proper colors. I’m personally a fan of Dr Dre’s color correction, but that isn’t really 35mm based anymore, and for good reason, though I personally would prefer a color correction based on the second or third examples in his thread.
Netflix has the original version of Obsession.
The tractor beam line, for example, sounds like he’s off saying it in a broom closet instead of on the same set he says all his other lines.
I agree, especially after reading your later statement. The line just doesn’t sound right in the scene, nor is it necessary.
MeTV still runs the original series.
They only show the remastered version though.
Looks really cool, I’ll have to find time and watch the whole thing too. Though, I would be less distracted during the SD parts if they just had regular black pillar-boxing, rather than what’s on there now.
To me, that leg looks completely silver in both images. I think it’s just lighting.
Han Shot First, your last question would be answered if you’d look through the recent posts of the thread (past few pages), but to answer simply, Harmy said that ESB and ROTJ will be advanced to v2.5 soon, and then he will begin work on v3.0 for all three films (these will be 1080p).
RS0087, check your PM’s.
Yeah, I guess the title was a little misleading because it was upscaling, sorry to disappoint you. I just was blown away by the image quality taken from that LD. I never thought that clean and detailed of an image could be retrieved from the composite signal on a laserdisc, and I thought that the methods he used (especially if what he said in the comment section was true) could benefit laserdisc preservation projects going on here.
I saw this video a bit ago, and thought that something like this would greatly help the preservation community.

Thoughts?
Check your PM’s, PartyVader.
This is gonna be AWESOME! Signed up right away.
Thanks Harmy, you do great work, and we all appreciate it a lot. All of these updates on ROTJ are just making me think about how much more awesome it’s gonna be when the V3.0 trilogy is finally finished in 1080p.
God bless you, Harmy, and have a wonderful Christmas!
This project looks really cool, and I’m quite interested. Also, after reading you and others talk about what to call the different SE’s, I just thought, wouldn’t it be best just to call them:
Special Edition (1997)
Special Edition (2004)
Special Edition (2011)
I’ve always been bothered by the use of weird differentiating terms like ‘redux’. It makes it sound like a cheap fanedit, and the SW SE’s have never officially even had any sort of ‘redux’ or ‘director’s cut’ tag on them. Though I am fine with the term ‘director’s cut’.
I hope your able to finish this project, as many people will be very happy with it, I’m sure, and that includes myself.
Hi, I’d also love to get an invite.
Thanks in advance!
I think I might have missed something in a previous page, but to my understanding this was supposedly put on myspleen.org? Well, it’s not on there, and everyone’s asking for links, so may I have one please.
Cool project! Will this end up going on myspleen or something?
