Here's an idea -- maybe you can show these 'dropships' launching from an Imperial Star Destroyer. Filiming new scenes or completely using new CGI to create a scene on Hoth would probably be too hard.

But WHY?
Seriously, you all complain about George adding unnecessary things just because he CAN. Now you want to add scenes that have no use?
I mean Vader says it all doesn't he? "Prepare for ground assault", "land your troops outside the shield", ... why would you need to see any of that? There's no purpose! It would also destroy the slow reveal of the walkers, one of the most awesome Star Wars moments, which should not be touched imho.

Please just fix the things that need to be fixed, don't go adding in things just because you think it'd be fun to see.

For the millionth time: no NTSC players can't play PAL, just wait a week or so for the NTSC version to come out. It will look better than a conversion you did yourself.
Before you ask: yes you can play PAL on your pc, just not on your tv.
(unless it supports PAL of course)

Or:
There you will learn from yoda ... who instructed me
which sounds more like something you'd actually say ^^
(or you could rearrange the whole thing into [There you will learn from][the jedi master][Yoda][who instructed me])

But personally I don't think this line should be changed, you could try to make the "the" into an "a", but I doubt it can be done so easily (remember 'your father <-> I')

This was originally all explained in episode III, but as Liam Neeson didn't want to reprise his role the scene was cut. The novel is a must read if not for this scene alone.
In short: when Jedis die, they stop existing, like normal beings. Qui-Gon Jin however learned how to 'join with the Force, yet retain consciousness'. So after he died he was still able to talk with Yoda through the Force. He told Yoda what he had learned and also told him that with training 'perhaps, in time, even your physical self' could be retained.
So there you have it: Qui-Gon didn't disappear because only his mind became one with the Force. Obi-Wan was the first to become physically one with the Force, thus disappearing.

If only it were possible to add this scene to the film (Neeson soundalikes step up please)...

All the links and info you need have been posted about a hundred times now, just go back a few pages and look for them.
If you want a DVD then just wait for it to be released, you could convert the avi but don't expect miracles qualitywise.

This makes the shot very dead for the first half, and to help sell how fast the TIES are moving, having a little camera motion at the start would help liven things up. Even just giving the camera a little bank (starting at maybe 10 degrees and ending at -10) is a very easy way to keep the frame moving. That alone will make a huge difference.
Yeah, I had a similar feeling. Personally I wouldn't have let the ties come towards the camera because then you reveal their numbers. If yu cut directly to the shot of the ties flying towards the x-wings you get more of a "wow, lots of ties attacking" feeling. But I'm no editor.
What I do mind (a bit) is the use of recognizable ESB music... Did more DSbattle-like music such as The Pit of Carkoon, Sail Barge Assault from the SE ROTJ CD not fit?
It's fine the way it is now, but one better mentions these minor things before the DVD's out, right?
I have one tech note for the render, but it will go a long way towards matching the original FX footgae - BLUR LENGTH. The TIES are are bluring WAY too much, and I'm guessing Lightwave's blur is set at the default of 100%. Cut it in half, at least. Step-frame through some of the original battle footage, especially shots of X-wings moving fast - the edges of the ship blur much less than your TIEs are. But again, that can be fixed simply by re-rendering the elemets with a 50% (or maybe even 35%) blur.

I don't know if rerendering the ties is an option... wasn't this the shot that took a month to render?

I say this because I watched the original scene again and, when R2 starts to show the Leia recording, C3PO reacts to it even though he previously says that he was shutting down.

Maybe it's been addressed in other forums or documentaries or edits, but I haven't heard about it before now. Just another thing that you notice for the first time, even after all these years...
This was indeed how the scene was originally shot (unless Adywan altered it some more), it was recut in two separate conversations for some reason... I believe it was to make the story move faster. But I too think it works better this way
I think it was restored for the first time in OCP's Deleted Magic, you may want to have a look at that one

And from the first page:
57 - Re-edited the whole “Ben’s Home” not only to fix the continuity errors but also because the conversation about the force and Luke's father is now all together and flows better instead of being split into 2 separate conversations. It now starts off with the viewing of the hologram and fixes the continuity problems.

I know it probably seems like it's been on again/off again, which I know is frustrating for everyone, but if you knew how much time and effort we've poured into this thing... We're just regular guys with jobs and families who do this on the side, you know?
We know man, knowing you're still working on it is all we need
But, take my word... We're dedicated to finishing it, and we WILL finish it. It's just a matter of time.

Then we shall wait, just don't drop it, because THEN you'll unleash our wrath
Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for giving us something to wait for.

I thought I missed that because I was too busy looking at the holograms etc! Is that scene really gone? It'd be sad, because that was one of my favourite Star Wars moments...

@Norman: I like what you did with the flipper, I was all for adding the human's hand, but now I think the flipper may just work. However, the way it is now, it looks fake. Perhaps making the entire scene (so the arm, the floor, the shadows, ...) from scratch would be better (only it you can pull it off though )

I LOVED IT!

But, I too found the new hand a bit strange: unlike your other changes, this one DID jump out "look at me I'm new!".
When I first saw it I thought "The lighting's off", so I thought I'd try flipping the flipper in The Gimp:

It's a quick and dirty edit, but I think it looks a lot more realistic this way, no?

The new Death Star intro is amazing, but there's something wrong with the way the ships move... it's probably just me though.
I also really liked the added music in the conference room scene after that, but the parts where there's no music are... well, quiet.
I think those are the only parts that bothered me, I really, really loved what you did with the film, and I can't wait to see this in DVD quality

I must say that's what I hate about the internet the most: you just can't detect sarcasm

Can't wait to finally see revisited, but I also can't wait to see the painting Adywan's planning on making...
I do wish he didn't release this during my exams though, I keep on checking the forums while I should be studying

Maybe I have a special printer... but mine doesn't print white

No no, you don't want it to print white, you want it to print transparent. You can get the transparent ink cartridges at Staples, I'm pretty sure.

Ron Moses

Eh? Printers don't print white: so white areas'll be transparent...

I'll be keeping my 2004 dvd so I can run it back to back with Adywan's version to try and spot all the differences. Now that I think about it, I could turn it into a game... Make your family/friends watch the same scene from both versions and whoever finds the most changes wins...
Or would that be too sad?

Yep, the star field is definitely not black. I wouldn't have seen this on my other monitor either though.
If you're using an lcd/tft monitor and can't see the difference, try altering your viewing angle: eg try sitting to high (or standing up) and look down to your monitor: if the black of the bars and the star field were the same black you shouldn't see a difference in contrast, but there clearly is one.
So far this edit is looking really good. Keep it up!

Yeah, voices in the music would be rather weird... i guess you could do what Sluggo suggested: include them as bonus tracks.
And while we're at it:
