i dunno, i always thought she looked aged in shots from empire and jedi, more so in jedi. I guess it might just have been a lighting problem...either way, that scene is hot, and bossk agrees so it must be true

Lucas to Receive AFI Lifetime Award
Time
Personally while I think he probably deserves it for his earlier work and the significant accomplishments in film thats he's made during his life, im wondering if this is gonna inflate his head and make feel like his recent changes to his classic works is accepted and supported by all. Not that he's gonna change his minds about the changes if he didnt get the AFI, but Im thinking it could spur him on to do even more changes because it, in his mind, re-enforces that his changes are the right thing to do.

Simon! Someone who feels the same way I do! Holy hell! I don't know what it is about that scene with her in the cell, but she looks so incredibly attractive. Maybe it's how her dress falls over her, maybe it's the mystery of "her", but I've never been so "intrigued" by somebody wearing so much clothing.

How could somone not love that scene Thats the best picture I could find of it, think i have better ones on my computer at home.

I also have to say in ROTJ, when she's in the ewok village and has her hair down....mmmm, but then long hair on girls tends to have that effect on me

Discussion: Your most prized star wars collectible
Time

Just think it would be interesting to see what peoples most prized SW collectible is. Basically the item(s) that you just take the most pride in owning, the rarest item in your collection, something with personal significance and anything else that just stands out in your collection for whatever reason. Also be nice to share a few words on why its so beloved and maybe how you came to aquire it.

Well to start it off, I dont think i really have any one thing that i would deem as the end all of my collection, I do have a few items that I take pride in owning.

the main one being the complete run of the Marvel Star Wars comics. This was something i decided i needed/wanted about 6 years ago. At the time I had none of the comics. I think the reason I like it so much is because i used to amaturely collect comics, im a huge star wars fan, and being intrigued by the whole scenerio of how marvel originally had the rights to the comics before dark horse took it over I just felt it was something I needed to add to my collection.

and another item i just remember is a pair of old darth vader rollerskates from back in the day. their just old and part of the original merchandising run and in my opinion a pretty unique piece of my collection.

Just wanted to say that the caps look great, keep up the good work zion. I cant believe the difference between the capture and your cleaned up version...wow, just wow.

One comment/opinion/nit-pick on your menus. While they are extremely hot, and way better than anything i could ever do, I fel they were a little long. Personally when i have to sit and wait for a menu to load on a dvd before i can start the movie i tend to get a bit impatient. And I thought that their were periods that were just too silent, like between the dialog there seems to be fairly large pauses and I felt that eliminating these would a) speed up the menu load a bit, but also make the dialog seem more natural.

Just my opinion.

But great work, its looking like it will turn out to be one hell of a dvd

EDITED to include something on Topic - Leia in metal bikini = A+, 4 stars, etc. I dunno why, I dont think she is attractive in any other scene.
Also, aside from his getting chumped horribly on an undignified death (debatable), Boba Fett is so badass that its hot...

I think the work your putting into this is amazing, your screen caps look outstanding. I agree that the inspiration that the site cause is reason enough to document it, but I think also the indepth look at a restoration project like this will provide insight to so many people and be a useful resource for so many other projects by so many other people that your taking the time to document it is great.

and also not to nit pick or anything but in reference to the first point you made.

1) About "legal vs. illegal": spirit of the law vs. letter of the law. It's illegal to take the tags off your bed mattress. That's letter of the law. No one's been arrested for it. That's sprit of the law. Posting screencaps, as I do on my site, is illegal (letter of the law) and is nonetheless permitted on thousands of sites across the internet by Lucasfilm (spirit of the law). As for the "backup" legality, etc., I'm not eager to spout more ignorant ramblings on the topic, so I'll leave that to a lawyer if the occaision arises.

the consumer is allowed to remove the tag from your matress as the tag actually starts: "UNDER PENALTY OF LAW THIS TAG SHALL NOT BE REMOVED EXCEPT BY THE CONSUMER"

as found here

also found this and i know its off topic but thought it was interesting:

"Back in the 1900s, mattresses often contained a host of vermin and disease-carrying materials. To protect consumers, the government required dealers to post tags on their mattresses listing the contents. Later, the Feds added a warning to the content tag with the ominous message, "Do not remove under penalty of law," in big, black letters."

A Chicago reviewer said that his showing of Team America: World Police was infested with children. Didn't the parents pay attention to the fact that this film was nearly rated NC-17?

oh man, that reminds me of something. I found this as more one of those messed up things parents do than a hate, but if i were these kids i would have been hating it. So im working a trade show in DC on saturday, its basically a health food show so you have mainly store owners coming to it (I work for a company that sells point of sale). So anyway, a lot of these store owners will bring there kids, which is all well and good, but this one lady had like 5 kids in tow and i would say age 4-8 maybe. So you know those kid leashes that you sometimes see parents have on their kids? Well this was kinda like that but instead she had 4 of the kids with strings tied around their wrists and tied to each other (so left hand to right hand, and they were 'chained' together like this) and they were walking behind the mother, well besides the fact that it really didnt look like the mother was making sure her kids were following (which they were) from booth to booth the youngest kid wasnt tethered in, i guess she trusted the 4 year old the most. And then they almost leave the kid because 3 of the 4 kids start walking while the other one is trying to get the youngest kids hand but is getting pulled away.

anyway, i dont know what the point of telling that story was, other than it just seemed wrong to do that to the kids, and it kinda relates to the crazy things parents do.

For Sale: Looking to thin out a collection
Time
Sorry i didnt get this up earlier.

Just ran a report on my collection for things that I have at least 2 of.....came up with 93 matches, and i know that there are figures that i dont have entered into my database...so im gonna have to sift through stuff to see exactly but i can give you a quick sampling from the report.

well for starters i know i have multiples of the first wave of figures from episode i as i bought a case of each assortment (I worked at toys r us at the time )
this includes at least one set of the 4 different battle droids, and then probably 2 of most figures but one of some (the cases had 4 of most figures but a couple figures only came 3 per case)
a couple of the b'omarr monk internet exclusives
probably up to 3 cantina band members
maybe a couple guys from the EU action figure set, gotta see exactly what i have in that one
electronic f/x emperor palpatine
possibly 1 kabe and muftak
oola and salicious crumb or 2
aunt beru
12 inch han and taun taun
3 3/4 han and taun taun
3 3/4 luke and wampa

I know i also have some more that were set aside from my collection that were intended as trades, including a chewbacca star wars buddy with the brown bandolier
I have to actually check these out to see what else i got.

I know i have some non exclusives that i have multiples of as well as probably a few more exclusive ones not listed above that i can probably part with. Just figured id give you a sampling

some of the exclusive ones i have multiples of so it really comes down to how many im willing to (able to bring myself to) part with

Lazy, lazy Lucas.
Time
That would be actually pretty cool, to see Vader destroy a planet. I think it would be cool if they show Vader, even if only breifly at the end of the movie, but use one of the concept designs they had from the original, something similar to how he ended up looking, but to show that over time more and more machine replaced his human parts.

As far as if Lucas was really concerned with piracy and/or actually cared about how the originals are presented (I agree that he is bitter towards fans that dont like the PT, but it also seems that he's abandoned the OT all together, not just in the sense that he has his 'new improved' versions, but that he really wants star wars to be defined by his new work, the PT, cause he thinks feels its more creative and a better movie/story), but i degress. So what i think he should have done is started working on the OT DVD's when he started working on episode I, and then stuck to the whole after episode III release. This way, even with a B-Team working on them, they would have tons of time to clean the film, sharpen the color, enhance the sound, fix slight special effects things that dont effect the story (lightsabers they missed colorizing, matte lines, and stuff like that) This of course would all be done to the original theatrical releases. then release this ultimate dvd (heck, it could even contain the theatrical and special editions like so many other dvds do now-a-days). But thats just what I would have done.

I dunno about the whole crash landing on tattooine, it seems like a whole continuity plug that Lucas would make. I can almost see the commentary for that scene: (**this is in no way meant in a negative way to buddy-x-wing's comment**)

"Well see, im George Lucas, and i really want to force the whole connection for the prequals with my original movie, so here we have Anakin and Padme landing an escape pod on tatooine. What really makes this work and actually funny/ironic is that in the original trilogy, this is how R2 and C-3PO first arrived on tatooine and eventually met with Luke. Speaking of R2 and C-3PO the whole reason their in the movie is because they were characters I could reuse to again force this continuity and the great thing is I can use the original actors since you never see their faces and wont realize this movie was filmed after the orignal. And it eliminates my whole having to change actors in the OT, which Ill probably do anyway just cause I can, but thats mainly because I like to piss of the fans that made the movie so successful and gave me my fortune and thus by allowing me to ruin the movies...see there's more of my killer irony at work.
"But back to forcing the continuity, see when I was writing the prequals I removed all memory of the originals from my mind, because as you know they no longer exist, so instead of doing the logical thing and make the prequals work with the originals I decided to make the originals work with the prequals. My reasoning here was that I really intended to make the prequals first, but due to the lack of technology at the time It just wasnt feasible to use the back story to the orignals, oh and I hadnt actually even conceived the idea of making anything other than the one movie even though I constantly say things that go counter to this."

But as i said, this isnt meant as an attack on buddy-x-wing's idea, but more a criticism on Lucas' apparent new found creative impulse. I actually like buddy's idea, but rather than accidental you could make it so that its a deleberate escape to tatooine (thats the part i have the problem with because it seems too much like the rest of lucas' forced connections between new and old). It was established that Anakin was worried about his mother. So while on their way to naboo they come under attack and manage to escape aboard some personal starship (being on 'public' transportation they didnt really have to power to redirect their flight path so this lets them change course) The attack would have to be a more general attack in search of them (Padme), with them managing to escape relativly unnoticed, after they boarded this 'borrowed' ship, Anakin would set course to tatooine with the dual purpose of hiding from the attackers (bounty hunters) and giving him the opportunity to find his mother. I think something like that would actually work, if done properly of course

Im sure dvds are the same way. There are just some heafty fines/penalties if you start selling the items before their official release date. How do you think some sites offer dvd preorders that will arrive at your door on the release day? When I got episode II on dvd it actually arrived about a week before the release date to my house from an online vendor.

sorry that this is slighty off topic

except the fact that the only Sith during the period of the original trilogy were Vader and Palpatine, so who exactly were they training?

Hey,

I got this magazine in the mail from the people that used to do the SW Insider. Its the november 2004 issue (issue 605).
Its a Sci Fi/Fantasy magazine with reviews and info on movies comics and all that good stuff

I actually got it probably almost a month ago, and its the reason i know about originaltrilogy.com It just dawned on me a few days ago that the magazine mentions this site and i didnt remember seeing that fact being posted in the forums. I did a search and nothing showed up. Whats really weird about that is that Jay is actually quoted in the article so I would have thought someone, Jay himself even, would have mentioned it in the forums here.

If people want i can try and scan in the pages when i have some free time at work and post them up. Let me know
