wait, if your rarely serious then why would we take your questin as being serious and answer it? does this mean this is one of the rare time you are serious? in which case, if you want the question answered, why would you respond saying you're rarely serious? wouldnt you instead respond 'yes i am serious, i am asking what beer goggles are'?

Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD
Time
i found some info on ripping game cube games...it requires a broadband adapter and the Phantasy Star Online game. Niether of which i have. and it seems that it just rips them to a rom/image type file that you can then play on your game cube over the network.

my brief search also didnt come up with any results for a ripped version of this floating around the net anywhere.

so basically dont know how much help ripping the game cube game would be (they designed the format to prevent pirating). Im thinking that a high quality video capture may be the easiest/best (at least the easiest way to do it with the best result) way to achieve aquiring the video.

-Darth Simon

ps. so if anyone has suggestions on a good video capture card that doesnt cost an arm and a leg (trying to keep it at a $50 cap if i can) i would appreciate it. I want one for other purposes but if i get one ill try and get a quality cap of this footage.

nintendo didnt use dvd, they used a proprietary disc format for the game cube. It has small (3" diameter i believe) discs that hold (i believe) 1.5 gigs.

according to ign
3-inch Nintendo GameCube Disc based on Matsushita's Optical Disc Technology

hence i dont even know if i a regular cd/dvd drive can read them.

so if its possible to rip the disc, or just the video from it, i can do that...otherwise i can still get the video on or around April 9th. Ill just need to get a capture card before then and take the whole system back with me.

I have the game...havent played it though so i cant verify the information. Its also at my parents (why i havent played it, havent done much with the games since college and even less since i graduated) but my brotehr did confirm for me that we have it. If anyone knows how to rip a game cube game ( what program i need and where i can get it) i can see about getting the video clip from the disc next time im home (April 9th)

-Darth Simon

edit, I dont even know if its possible to rip the game cube games, but my brother had a good idea, after that part is unlocked can capture it to the computer with a capture card. I dont have one but am planning on getting one...so anyone have suggestions on which card to get (inexpensive yet good)

Alot of the rest stops by me have them. this is along interstate 95 on the east coast. From the setup of the stores though it seems that they are jointly owned with another store (cant remember the name off the top of my head) because they have shared employees...kind of like the dairy queen and orange julius stores in the malls.

*edit, not sure if the one in my parents town is still there however...cant remember, but i think it is

Comic book movies - who says yes and who says no?
Time
ok gotcha...yeah dc hasnt put out many of their comics as movies.

I think the green lantern would be cool (as discussed above)
they could easily do flash (they had a live action tv series that was decent)
was judge dread a comic before it was a movie or was the movie spawned from the comic?

dont know how well something like wonder woman or aquaman would do as a movie, but if done right they could prob do some of the batman/superman spinoffs ie, night wing, justice league (think this was discussed somewhat in this thread at one point)

like i said, they botched catwoman which could have been a good movie.

guess ill pose the quesiton to you (and anyone else that wants to answer)

what dc comics would you like to see done as movies?
and while we're at it, what marvel comics? (that they havent done yet).

mind you this is hypothetical so the possibility of the studio killing the story isnt an issue. i figure after we get some ideas out we could discuss which ones we think hollywood can pull of.

I'm sure it's not a done deal, but it seems they really are planning to do it.

I'm sure he's turning over in his grave.

why? its footage that was shot with him in it for a superman movie in the part they would use it for. If its in good shape, fits the storyline, and there's enough to cover the scenes they would end up shooting for it (without reusing parts and possibly putting a shitty voice dub over it) then i really fail to see why you have a problem with it.

only objection i could see is if they are planning on drastically altering the footage by inserting new actors and changing scenery, but that does not seem like it would be the case. so why wouldnt it work for flashbacks or as a holograph to talk to clark kent in his fortress of solitude since the article stated that supposedly Singer plans on use the same Krypton and Fortress of Solitude design as the first to movies.

being that its being done as a sequal to superman 1 & 2 i think it could work and might actually be good. the whole change of the actor playing superman is going to be a big enough change as it is that Singer keeping it in the 'same world' as the first two will help lessen that.

and they arent doing it with cgi like they did in sky captain, they are using stock footage from the filming of the first two films

They'll never know for sure if the other DC titles like Green Lantern can carry a film until they give it a chance. But what can we expect from a Hollywood that poured millions of dollars into Halle Berry's craptacular "Catwoman"?

not trying to start anything but where did that come from.

there hasnt been a superman or batman film for a while (cartoon series yes, but nothing live action, which is how i infer your film comment and the fact that the other movies you mentioned were live action). Yeah there might have been talk of a new superman and a new batman, but it wasnt till after x-men and spider-man were released that anything really happened (at least as far as i know).

and off the top of my head, as far as recent comic book movies go they had Punisher, Daredevil, Spider-Man (1+2) X-Men (1+2), Catwoman, Hellboy, Elektra, Hulk
and in the works Fantastic Four, Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Batman Begins, Superman

And the problem with making comic book movies is not anything specific to the fact that they are from comic books but the general hollywood tendencie to 'jump on the bandwagon'. Basically Spider-Man and X-Men do well, partly cause of their comic book following and people know the story but also cause they were good movies, they didnt totally butcher the characters/story. Then hollywood says 'oooh, comic book movies sell' so they start pumping out these movies and figure they will just catch a ride on the money train. What they dont realise is that the story also mattes Daredevil was ok, I hear people that say they like it and people that say it was terrible. But it could have been just as awsome as X-Men or Spider-Man. Elektra was a spinoff movie from Daredevil, i dont know anyone that personally saw this but i believe most people say its not as bad as they thought it would be. Same with Hulk and Catwomen could have been awsome but hte story wasnt up to par.

i wont go on with each movie, but im sure you see the point...the reason the movies sucks is because hollywood thinks that the name alone will sell and they get people with little to no knowledge of the comic to work on the screenplay and make terrible scripts and just adapt the story to the big screen terribly.

So Chaltab, thats why hollywood considered it a worthy project, because in all honesty it could have been.
and HSvsIJ theres been quite a few movies out, i dont see how you find them to not give a change of pace, plus your comments make it seem like the only comic book movies that have come out are the 4 (xmen, spiderman, superman, batman) you mentioned and their new sequals for them every year, with hellboy being some indepentent movie done by a rogue studio and it satisfied (if only briefly) your desire for 'a new pace'

baby hum,

question for you...i downloaded the clapper board disc of yours and was wondering if its a pal disc. the info says pal in the video format but i have all ntsc equipment (my dvd player appears to be able to output in pal, but the tv only has ntsc) and it plays fine on my dvd player and tv.

so is it a pal disc and my player is just converting it or is it ntsc?

When you say braces are you refering to { and } ?

if so umm...i use them all the time every day. More so than i use probably half the shift functions for the number keys. Most programming languages use { and } so a lot of the programs you use on a daily basis need those keys.

also, you do realize you can install keyboards for different countries so you're keys will behave differently (though the label will stay the same) when i took german in college i installed the german keyboard to make it easier to type stuff in german. you can probably also remap your keyboard manually if you knew what your were doing...or buy a programmable keyboard and set it up however you want.

Otaku is actually a bit more than just an anime fan
this actually recently came up in a discussion with some people in my Kendo class and the Japanese meaning of the word is very different then how Americans tend to use the term.

the following definition will explain why some people oppose the term. (its the same as the one from the people in my Kendo class who know more than me)

as taken from urbandictionary.com link

Quote

1. otaku
Otaku is the honorific word of Taku (home).

Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc)

Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer).

In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru". If you think about it, it's not really good to be called a guru if it means you are a total loser who can't socialize with other people except through the Internet.

Other Japanese words which have been confused by Westerners also include but not limited to: Anime, Manga, etc

not trying to defend he-man and his secret identity but i think its at about the same level as the clark kent/superman

when he turns to he-man im pretty sure his physical bulk/muscle mass increases and his voice gets deeper
the green tiger also goes through similar changes

all superman does is take off his glasses, change his voice (similar voice change as he-man) and parts his hair the other way

when you think about it he-man/prince adam actually has a much better disguise than superman/clark kent

10th Anniversary Edition in 1987? Was anything released or done?
Time
hey sessler anyway you can post a rar with the high res versions you have (maybe get them to ritker to include in his dvd cover torrent, it could fit as materials to make custom covers)...i have a fair amount of posters but they all vary in quality. It looks like most of mine are around 100k so it would be nice to have some higher quality ones. I do have the above mentioned poster in a 93k with 409 x 640 dimensions according to the info from winxp.

also whats the file size/dimensions that gets considered hi-res for a poster. ill try and go through the posters i have and identify the hi-res ones

ask either guard, doesnt matter which one, what the other guard would say is the door that leads to freedom.
if you happen to ask the guard that always lies he will tell you the door that leads to death (because he is lying about it being what the other guard would say) and if you ask the guard that tells the truth he would tell you the door that leads to death (because that is what the lying guard would actually say if you asked him which way was freedom) so either way you take the opposite door that the guard you asked said and it will go to freedom
