Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Trooper, i def agree on the electric...yeah it was cool seeing yoda just be like ok, whatever ill just catch the energy and throw it back/'absorb' it. that did make him look more powerful, but as ive said yoda puts way to much effort forward...lucas kind of removes the awe from yoda by showing him do these things, that while cool dont really meet up to what we've all imagined his power to be after seeing the OT, so im glad your gonna make yoda exert less effort.

Your description of the fight scene kinda matches how i was thinking it would work in the last line of my previous post, so i think that might be along the right lines to get what your going for (obviously it will need to be seen and some adjustments might need to be made)

cauterized, im not sure what pile of blood (though blood normally pools ) you are talking about when Ponda Baba's arm gets cut off. But think about it, the blade was hot enough to melt through a blast door (ok, thats pt so dismiss it if you want) when luke lost his arm there was not blood, Ponda Babas arm wasnt gushing blood (nor was anakins) when it got cut off. yeah there was some blood, but i kinda would expect even with cauterization there would be some blood (especially in amputations). Obi-wans cuts werent really bleeding same with Qui-Gon, or Darth Maul...again there was some blood, but enough for visual effect and what you could attribute to the spray before the veins are cauterized. but cauterized or not, obi-wan had the equivelant of scraps and he was out for the count, couldnt even raise a force lift to save his own life from a falling crane, yet he's gonna be one of the jedi to survive the mass slaying of all the jedi.

Lucas had the opportunity to show us these extremely powerful jedi of old, except he shows us a Jedi master that at 50ish years younger has more trouble lifting a small crane as compared to an x-wing (remember size matters not, so it shouldnt matter either way the size, they should be equally as easy). Plus, i dont even think age matters (i think chaltab mentioned palpatines age vs dooku's in relation to the ease of the force lightning) Wouldnt it be more of a mental strength and a connection with the force that allows you to do force related things easier, not the fact that your physically 50 years younger...if that was the case maybe those kids should have been teaching yoda

With the mention of dooku's ease of using the force lighning compared to palpatine, plus the fact that it ruins the impact for when palpatine uses it in jedi, i say get rid of it, yodas deflection of it isnt worth it, keep us imagining how powerful yoda is, it gives a better impact than you could ever get showing it on screen (also, as an explanation, palpatine might have been putting more energy forth cause his lightning was a lot more powerful than dooku's)

couple suggestions

first for the Yoda/Dooku battle.

I think that even though Dooku knows that Yoda is pretty darn powerful he still doesnt realize that even with his (Dooku's) darkside power Yoda still outpowers him. I think Using just the lightning scene would work. It could go something like this.

Yoda shows up confronts Dooku (some of the dialog could be cut/trimmed here, including the Yoda as Dooku's master stuff) Dooku does his boasting how the darkside has made him strong and given him all these powers the jedi dont have (blah blah blah, typical villian rant stuff ) it would be at this point that he throws lightning at yoda and yoda is all like whatever and just easily deflects/absorbs it. At this point Dooku would be like damn, ive underestimated him and throw the crane or whatever it is down on anakin and obi-wan.

now a major problem i have with this is the amount of effort yoda seems to put into it. Seems like it took him some work, this shouldnt have really been a problem for someone with yoda's power. it seems to contradict yoda's comments on size not mattering from the OT. I think if you cut some of the scenes so yoda doesnt seem to take as long/struggle as much. basically make it so it distracts yoda for just enough time for Dooku to get on his ship and take off. also do something similar with the electric blasts if you can to reduce yoda's apparent effort...thinking about it i think they were like with a cgi yoda look at all the expressions we can put on his face so they made him look constipated while deflecting the electric and the crane.

also i think obi-wan's appearance needs to get cut after his injury (if thats kept in) Dooku only gave him two cuts one on his arm and one on his leg, yet he was completely helpless and couldnt even use the force to keep the crane from falling on him, i mean, the wounds were courterized (sp?) so not like he was week from blood loss, i can see anakin being out of it from shock of loosing a limb, but obi-wan just ends up looking like a little wimp that cant handle a little scrape.

one other thing is i could almost see getting rid of the electric that Dooku shoots at yoda just because it takes away from when the emperor does it in Jedi.

now that i think about it, this seen is filled with contradictions/problems might be better to just get rid of it Actually that wouldnt be possible cause it eliminates anakin loosing his arm, but maybe cut it to the bare essentials

something along the lines of quick attack by anakin (similar to how it is in the movie, he goes ahead of obiwan irrationally), obi wan jumps in, anakin reattacks looses his arm, yoda enters, dooku throws the cran on anakin/obi-wan, yoda moves to save them, dooku makes his escape.

or since i have heard that just burning a data dvd with the Audio_TS and Video_TS folder could result in compatabilty issues, and my impression of this program is that it burns the disc in the same format that using Nero's Video DVD feature does but removes the restrictions of not allowing anything besides the Audio_TS, Video_TS, and vob/ifo files it would seem that its a possibility for this program to get around whatever is causing the problem of burning the disc to a DVD-R disc.

RichKS, can you burn other dvds to -R media, or is this nero refusing to burn it to a dvd-r specific to this dvd? How about burning a straight data dvd on dvd-r media? maybe the drivers for your burner got messed up and its not recognizing it as the multi format burner that it is. could try reinstalling the drivers and/or nero

I also use nero and when i burnt these to disc nero wouldnt let me put anything besides the vob and such files in (basically could only put the files for the video_ts folder) i couldnt put on the Jacket_P, Contents, or DVDRom folder

some searching and i found this a program called imgTool you can get it from http://www.coujo.de/

it allowed me to burn everything on the disc and the disc played fine. it actually uses the nero burning engine to do the actual burning

off topic video related question
Time
2 questions actually, didnt think this really fit into the star wars preservation thread but hopefully someone that knows whats up will see it.

1) is there a program (preferably free, free trial is ok) that will allow me to normalize the audio in a movie file (.avi) without demux the audio and video and then remuxing them?

and the second is another program request

2) something that can join two ogm files. ive found (and have a few) that will join avi, mpg, and all that other good stuff, but havent been able to get one that ill join two ogm files. i downloaded an anime movie and its split into two cds...having a dvd burner i can fit it all on one disc, but was hoping to be able to join the two files together if possible

thanks

Comic book movies - who says yes and who says no?
Time
HSvIJ, while the spidey cartoon didnt follow the comic exactly it did do a fairly good job (from what ive read about the actual spidey comics, havent actually read the comics but a good deal of info is available at http://www.spiderfan.org/ ) in keeping the characters origins correct, it did swap hob goblin's appearence with green (green appeared first). There were also multiple greens (4) and also multiple hob goblins (also 4 according to spiderfan.org) you can read about the various origins of the characters at that site. Actually as far as timeline it might have been more online than the movie, especially in dealing with Peter and MJ's relationship.

chaltab, harry never changed from the green goblin to the hobgoblin. and in the cartoon Norman never actually died but he dissapeared in a time/space vortex (same one that took MJ) and only showed up after that as a voice in harry's head.

more on topic though, i hope they dont do Green Goblin II or even the Hob Goblin as the villian in the next movie because i think it will end up being too similar to the first story. If they are going to do venom, which in my opinion would be a good story, they should have done more character development with Eddie Brock in the second movie to establish his hatred of peter/spider-man because to do the venom saga properly i dont think 2 hours will be enough time. They have been throwing mention of Doctor Conners so maybe we'll get to see the lizard, that could make a good story as well. I dont know why they are making such a big deal out of keeping the next bad guy a secret, if they werent so concerned with that they could have worked more backstory/character development of the next villian into the previous movie which would allow for them to already have the villians motives for hating spider man so much established.

as far as xmen, if they do the Phoenix sagas (which it very much seems they are going to do) I hope they dont try to compress both into one movie because that will be too much for one movie. Only way it would work is to not actually have Jean go totally evil and just make it an internal struggle with her new found powers. As far as putting wolverine into cyclops' place i sure hope they dont do anything that stupid, it would be way to far off the continuity, also its was established in the second one that Jean's choice was Cyclops not Wolverine.

1.05 gigs of covers thats awsome, you rock. I cant wait till you release that

out of curiosity, are you gonna include any of the source materials (mainly thinking the textless posters) in the torrent to encourage others to have a go at some covers.

also, do your covers include any modified covers of the phantom edit 1.1 for the 1.2 version?

ps. thanks for posting the When Star Wars Ruled the World cover. puts me one cover closer to getting covers for all my discs

i couldnt actually imagine the spongebob movie being made in the first place

but i do get your point, though im wonder how much of a concern it really is. cgi needs time to settle in, right now it may be over used but eventually directors and animators will learn when to use it and when not to use it...at least i hope this will be the case.

UPCOMING DVDs
Time
i think this is the most appropriate spot for this.

DAYV, do you know if there is any plans for a release of Lethal Weapon 4 in a directors cut? and then a box set of all 4 in directors cut? or is the only box of all 4 going to be the one that is currently out and then the directors cuts only available for the first 3 movies (i know they are availabe in a box)?

thanks

Padme VS Young Aunt Beru

Kiera vs Natalie is hard...especially with the fact that in episode I her makeup was done so as to make her look very similar to Natalie. A part of me at times thinks that Kiera is prettier but then at other times I all about Natalie. The problem is, as with most actresses, it really depends on the movie and their makeup/outfit/how they are photographed at the time.

but when it comes down to it, i have to stay true to Natalie

-Darth Simon

*edit, ric, Kiera is the person who played Sabe (Queen's Decoy) and was the leading female role in Pirates of the Caribbean. but yes, both at the same time would be the ideal answer...
