I have the pioneer 108 and im totally happy with it...the only coasters ive burnt were with the first set of media i had that came with the drive and that was because they were crappy discs, if i put any more than 4 gigs on them i seemed to have trouble

i also just bought some 8x discs (because they had an instant rebate...didnt even realize they were 8x at the time, and they are good quality discs) and my recent burns have been at 12x...havent upgraded the firmware at all from what it came with.

The One Good Thing about the S.E.'s

well the comment was made that the faces edition are brighter than the previous versions and the se's as far as the special effects like blasters are concerned. I was just saying that maybe when the movies were released the were of the same brightness that they appear in the faces version (dont know if anyone would remember this detail from their original theatrical release experience) and thatthe versions before that were just not restored. then lucas decided to re-fade the colors for a reason similar to why he added a purple hue to the explosions...whatever that reason may be.

seriously though...i was watching lion king 2 the other night (dont ask, its a bad habit that if i watch one movie i have to then watch the rest of the series (providing i have it, and i bought the 'trilogy' for the lion king because i heard the second was funny) before i can watch any other movies

but i decided that disney definatly has an A team and B team that they have work on movies. All the good ones are done by the A team and the shitty, DTV ones are done by the B team. Seriously, the plot in lion king two is weak at best, i mean i understand no disney movies really have crazy plot twists or anything, but this was just bad (Chaltab if you though some lines in star wars were cliche...well, dont watch this ) The worst part is the only songs that were actually any good from the movie are ones that were off a tape/album that was released after the lion king "Rhythm of the Pride Lands" which is billed "Music Inspired By The Lion King" which somehow actually holds a disney records logo

i understand your line of thought...actually i just thought of something. If im not mistaken in the official dvds didnt lucas make the explosions that take place in space black and white? or at least fade the color down considerably? if thats correct, maybe the faces restored them to their proper brightness and then he decided to 'tone down' the color of the lasers in the se's just like he did with the explosions in the dvd release.

just a thought and one that may be based on misinformation to begin with (the black and white explosions)

-Darth Simon

ps. doc, i hope your kidding about the added scenes being the good part of the se's. didnt see a and text doesnt hold sarcasm well. but those are the parts that change the story

never said i agree...i said kinda agree. the kinda is there because i was agreeing that lucas causes bigger inconsitancies to the original movies than the EU does, most of the EU's inconsistancies are between various story lines in the EU (now i havent read all of it, so if im off base here dont flame me). and few if any are with EU story and the original trilogy. Lucas made a new story that should jive 110% with what star wars actually is and with the original storyline yet he failed to do so. A few authors didnt read the 'hundreds' of stories already written for the EU and make theirs jive perfectly with each and every story, a task that gets harder the more stories that are written. all lucas really had to do was make a story that fit perfectly with the 3 original movies, a story that he wrote...a much simpler task, yet he failed.

the way i see it the faces version is used cause thats the best source of the movies (readily) available before they were dramatically altered.

now yes the movies have been released in various cuts between the original theatrical release and the faces version but the changes are failry minor...nothing along the lines of han shooting first or extra (repetative) scenes.

I personally remember the movie with c-3po's tractor beam line and the open the blast doors/close the blast doors line, and the your lucky you dont taste very good. while other people will remember the movie without these lines or various combinations thereof depending on what cut they saw. but either way its still the same movie...it doesnt really change the story. but parts of the se's do change the story.

now i dont totally hate the se's but there are parts of them that i dont like (han vs greedo, i find jabba redundant now, the ending song on jedi for example). the only major change i can really see an argument against as far as a faces or before edition not being original is the pre anh crawl but thats easily handled with multiple angles on the crawl.

im not sure how much of this makes sense and how much fits with the discussion...i guess my point is mainly along the lines of what version exactly is the "Original" version. and my opinion would be its whatever 77-95 version you first saw as these are all 'true' to the original story

actually i kinda agree with Chaltab...I mean, if its all under the imprint of Lucasbooks now...well, we all know how many inconsistancies Lucas has introduced into the prequals

correct on all accounts

you can actually do this in 'reverse' too

fill the 3 gallon and pour it into the 5 gallon
fill the 3 gallon again and fill the 5 gallon, you now have one gallon left in the 3 gallon
empty the 5 gallon and pour the remaining 1 gallon from the 3 gallon into the 5 gallon
fill the 3 gallon again and pour it into the 5 gallon
there is now 4 gallons in the 5 gallon

though i think this way is a bit more complicated (ie more steps)

next riddle is yours

Ok, here's an easy one that most people probably know...but im too lazy to come up with anything else

You have a 5 gallon jug and a 3 gallon jug...fill one of the jugs with exactly 4 gallons of water. You can only use the two jugs you have (3 & 5 gallon)

p.s. bonus points to whoever can tell me what movie this riddle is used in

Your player's box actually brags about being incompatible with most of the world's DVD-Rs? That's pretty gutsy of them to admit they fell way short of the specifications they're supposed to adhere to.

I'd be willing to bet its compatable with most if not all dvd-r's. but its a panasonic dvd player, they say its only compatible with dvds from their burner...you're gonna get 90% of the population that are less knowledgable than the people on this forum (and forums like it) that will go out and buy a panasonic burner because of whats written on the box of their dvd player.

also +r's are generally less compatable so the fact that his player doesnt play +r's (or advertise it as being compatible) may just be a cya situation...i mean with this lawsuit happy society we live in what do you expect.

anyway...so im not totally off topic...zion, any major updates/progress on your menus/project in general?

I see. I didnt know until now that PhotoBucket had a space limit. I guess you can tell that I dont use my PB account much. Hopefully Grisan will update his site soon.

Now, ReverendBeastly, I was wondering if I could ask you a question? You mentioned that the EditDroid Star Wars was part of a set. Can you tell me more about this set?

Im not the Reverend...but when Ritker first posted this set there was no contact from the creators...since it was a 'mysterious mystery' ( ) as to where it came from he dubbed it the mysterious mysteries version.

the creators then came forward stating that they would prefer that it was called the EditDroid version. So Empire was released under the heading of EditDroid (as will Jedi when that gets released). So Mysterious Mysteries is the same as the EditDroid. EditDroid is the official name.

hope that helps clear things up for you

There is also a version of Super Mario 3 that is very similar...not sure on the time for that one though.

And yeah, everything i heard was its an emulator, multiple takes, and also that he used macros to do double jumps and such. I didnt hear about any 'statement' from the creator though.

either way its still looks damn cool

there is also some tetris one and that one shows a side by side of they guy playing...its damn impressive

That's not what was meant. As far as I know, there's nothing limiting a US license plate to only having the number 13 at the beginning. Your mileage may vary.

Im confused by the mileage comment.

Also, to help clarify. While Bossk did say you can eliminate 36, 1, 1 from the possible answers because of the age, he also reeliminated it along with the other choices. Once the neighbor said he needed more information you would be able to deduce that the license plate starts with 13 because that is the only number repeated when each of the 7 possible sets of ages is summed. if it started with any of the other choices he would have had the answer. the stating that his oldest as bossk said allowed the neighbor to assume that the younger 2 were twins and not the older 2.

so essentially the country aspect of the license plate doesnt matter

-Darth Simon

p.s. I didnt get the answer until Bossk's explanation either, there just seemed to be some confusion as to the license plate number so figured id see if i could help clear it up

The Essentials (films)
Time
ric when you say Mel Brooks until Spaceballs, is that inclusive of Spaceballs?

Also im suprised no one has said The Godfather.

Id also probably put Rocky on the list, as well as all Pixar films and probably most (if not all) the classic Disney animated movies. Id also probably add Memento and Tarentino's movies, mainly Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

The Lethal Weapon series is also one i would add to the list

And im sure there are others...just those are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head.

I agree with GundarkHunter...The Incredibles and Clone Wars are must haves

Question for whoever might know (so probably DAYV)

Someone was asking me about the Aladdin 2/Aladdin 3 pack (Return of Jafar and King of Thieves) are these dvds in the OAR. Im assuming they are as the films are direct to video releases but i couldnt find any info on the aspect ratio for the movies or the recent dvds
