that bastard

seriously though, like MeBeJedi said in his post after that. Just because the planet is ruled by a King doesnt necessarily preclude them from being part of the Republic and having a representative (Senator) of their choosing (the 'Kings' choosing in this case) in said Republic. Plus, as was said earlier, everything i remember had him as a senator before the PT came out. either he or Leia was a member of the imperial senate during ANH before it was dissolved.

like said elsewhere. what blatant real world refrences?

and where did that Gunray - Reagan crap come from? who made that up, this is the first ive heard of it and Gunray is not raygun backwards...its yarnug which sounds like absolutley nothing.

Oh, and Jaster, i think Lucas did have George W. in mind when he created Vader 28 years ago

Does anybody have nice images of all these different logos that they can share with us?

not sure if this is all of them but i think the ones out there (based on posts in this thread and what ive read/seen elsewhere) are:

Old Republic
Grand Army of the Republic
Seperatists
Empire
Rebellion
Jedi
New Republic? - did they have one for this

dont know if i missed any, or if any of those overlap, but i know i personally would appreciate if someone has nice hi quality jpegs of each of those.

stop with the reselling/redistributing non duplicated hard goods analogy.

buying something and giving it to someone else is the same thing a gift. there is still only one copy of it, and the makers of it got paid for that copy. when you duplicate and redistribute it its totally different (uploading/download duplicates the material)

If i buy a book and give it to a friend nothing is wrong...i bought the book for my friend. If i read the book first and then give it to my friend this is still acceptable (it makes me a cheap bastard who gives used stuff as gifts but that doesnt affect the company that made the book, ok,well it technically does because they sold 1 copy and 2 people read it, but no law (that i know of) was broken during this process). If i buy the book, photo copy all the pages, bind it together and give the copy to my friend i just broke copyright law (something about unlawful reproduction) there are now two copies. if my friend pays me for all the paper and binding materials i used to make the copy does that make it legal? no you still broke the law in making the copy for him. You can argue you didnt sell it (though you did cause you accepted money for it) more accuratly you didnt profit from it. but in a sense you did (providing your duplicating costs were less than buying the real thing, which if it wasnt your an idiot).

so what the hell does mixing apple jacks, cheerios, and cinnimon toast crunch into baggies have anything to do with anything. your not making bootleg product. there is the same amount of cereal present after you put it in the little baggies as there was when you bought it. The amount of cereal consumed by you and your friends with the baggies is the same as if you had bought the three boxes and ate them all yourself while watching reruns of General Hospital.

It doesnt matter if you hate the MPAA or not, illegally downloading/sharing copyrighted material is illegal. If you do it through legit methods (ie itunes) its a different story.

I dont see a problem with Portman not looking like carrie fisher, Luke and Leia are twins but your not complaining how they share no similarities in looks, why does Portman have to look exactly like her daughter?

yeah, i was kinda expecting the Anaking falling 'into' the lava thing and obi-wan thinking he was dead. at least at the time he left him. would explain why he didnt finish him off and/or save him.

as far as not trying to turn Anakin back to the light side, remember, even if ESB Yoda (so i would assume all the Jedi) assumed that once you went dark 'forever will it control your destiny'. It wasnt until Luke that anyone thought you can be turned back to the light.

I almost think that Yoda shouldnt have had a cane at all. That (maybe) should have been something he developed while on Dagobah, or maybe from his fight with Palps. Also, they did seem to force the 'Yoda talk' in the PT's making it seem unnatural. After watching the OT (mainly ESB cause he has the most dialogue there) he really doesnt speak all that abnormally while training/explaining things to Luke. The majority of his 'crazy' talk comes when he first approaches Luke and is testing him, when he's just acting like some crazy creature to test Luke's patience (also he probably went a little nuts from being on Dagobah all alone for so long) So that could almost have been a developed thing like the cane.

Kind of agree with the battle droid comment, yeah, they shouldnt really present much of a challenge for a Jedi, but it probably could have been a bit harder for them. Also, the Jedi definatly got wiped out by the Clones too easy. I mean the clones back up and let the Jedi get in front, then shoot them in the back and the Jedi didnt notice. Even non force adept people would turn to look when the speeders on your right and left fall back. And only like 2 of them actually put up any sort of fight, besides Yoda.

yeah, there is def sw music playing there, its one of my favorite scenes in that movie.

Idea: original film - get a copy of the original film reels from the Library of Congress?
Time
i dont think the LOC would just loan out a copy of the original film reel. (do they actually have one, i wasnt clear on that from other discussions). but even if they did, im pretty sure there would be legality issues as far as restoring the film and all that stuff without the permission of Lucasfilm et.al.

so yeah, probably pipe dream

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)

I agree, a bounty hunter wouldnt just give out information...though something like that is most likely 'public record' meaning, Obi-Wan could probably have gotten the info elsewhere, probably the cloners. Also, its possible its something he says to throw off Obi-Wan ( maybe he was instructed to give that response if every asked) though i have to admit that seems a stretch.

my main problem with that scene is how Obi-Wan acts. If i were the cloners i would be very suspecious. He knew very little about the clones, and was asking questions like he wasnt involved and the Cloners didnt question this at all? The Obi-Wan of ANH would have been more clever, subtle in his collecting of information.

ROTS: Palpatine's Diatribe

ok, heres what i thought while watching it. (with some background) I had been under the impression that his face was like that because of extended/heavy use of the dark side, possibly used to extend his life. but during the scene when he changed i felt that he was changing because even though he had it under control and was just trying to get Anakin to react as he did, the consequence of letting his own force lightning be 'reflected' back at(into) him cause him to shrivel (guess thats the best word)

but honestly now i dont know

Is this your attempt to explain away the obvious error of a person who gets paid as a professional writer (or did you not catch it?)

I have to agree that most of what's been posted did make the film a bit less impactful, but I had some other problems as well:

-I felt that the way Mace Windu dies was a cheap way out and did nothing but reduce the character's powers and abilities, especially when you consider how long Emperor Palpatine fry's Luke in ROTJ and he survives. I think that we should have seen him thrown out of Palpatine's window and follow him down to a passing vehicle where he grabs on much like Anakin in AOTC. By having him escape like this they could have had a final confrontation on the bridge of Vader’s Star Destroyer and let everyone watch Vader kill Mace Windu there. Much more honorable to that awesome character and a more resounding ending to the film, showing Vader's complete confidence and domination of the Force.

i agree it could have been a bit more noble, but i dont know about grabbing a passing speeder. remember he lost his hand(s?). Also, unlike most people I dont think we really needed to see Vader kicking but in the suit. I think pre-mechanical Vader kicking butt is enough (could have been a bit more of that actually) but he has mastery of the force at that point, when he;s re-built that doenst increase his control over the force. Also, thinking about it, why exactly did Palpatine care that much to save Anakin. He let Maul die, he orchestrated Dooku's death, he let Grevious Die and actually told the Jedi where Grevious was. So why save Anakin. I mean, most of the Jedi have been wiped out, hes pretty much in power at that point, why does he still need Vader? only reason i can see is because he wasnt ready to replace him so didnt have a new apprentice picked out/ready to convert.

-I thought that there was a scene with Obi Wan communing with Qui Gon, and now that I know that it exists I too am pissed that it wasn't shown in the film proper. It would more appropriately bridge the films and give us that much more insight into how Obi Wan vanishes into the force in ANH.

well the only scene i believe we have established has been cut is that of Yoda talking to Qui-Gon, I dont recall people saying there was actually a scene where Qui-Gon shows up or Obi-Wan talks to him.

-For the record, it was never spoken in the film that Padme died of a broken heart! The line was, "We don't know why, but she's lost the will to live." I don't think that her death hurts the Leia line latter on about her mother because her memory was of a sad mother figure that she barely remembers, and that could just as easily be Bale Organa's wife she's remembering.

its clearly her real mother, not Mrs. Organa. this is clearly stated in ROTJ when Luke asks "Do you remember your mother? your real mother?" Also, broken heart, will to live, kinda the same thing. She gave up on life because of Anakins turn. However, the problem here is that the line the medic droid says not too much before the line you quoted is something along the lines of 'We're loosing her, there's nothing wrong, we cant explain it" then 2 seconds later they explain it as her haveing lost the will to live. Ok, so much for not being able to explain it.

Count Dushku said:
[Obi-Wan met Threepio. Watch A New Hope, Obi-Wan has no clue who Threepio is...but now he does.]

I disagree! He knows exactly who C-3PO is but is unwilling to divulge his knowledge because it would give Luke too many questions before he was ready to handle them. Also since C-3PO's memory was wiped it facilitates this much more fluidly. If you think about it, R2-D2 is doing the exact same thing and has been for 20 years or so at that point since his memory is still intact. He won't tell C-3PO who Leia is or where the message he is carrying came from.

totally agree here, yeah technically Ben lies to Luke, but its not viscious. He had to 'play dumb' so to speak so as not to confuse/scare Luke. as was said, Luke wouldnt have been able to handle all that.

Think about how Luke would react if Ben responded like this when Luke said that R2 'claims to be the property of some Obi-Wan Kenobi, do you know whats hes talking about?"

Ben: "Oh, R2. Hows it going, long time no see. Yeah, Luke, this droid actually belonged to your father before he turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader. He actually built the protocol droid R2 hangs out with too. But after he turned and his wife, your mom, died. Oh that was in child birth by the way, we gave the droids to Captain Antillies and had C-3PO's memory wiped. that was at the same time we sent you here to live with your uncle, and we sent your twin sister...oh, forgot, yeah, you have a twin sister who we seperated from you at birth and whos identity we kept hidden from you. Shes the one in the message, so get those nasty thoughts out of your head boy. Oh, before i forget, heres your Dad's lightsaber. I took it after i cut him in half and left him for dead on a volcanic planet. he was in pretty bad shape, but the emperor fixed him up with the mechanical body he has now...you know, maybe leaving him there wasnt the best idea in retrospect...oh well. Anyway, go pack your bags, you gotta learn the ways of the force and come with me so you can defeat your father."

The only time it really seems he 'forgot' something was when talking to Yoda about "that boy being our only hope" and Yoda said, "no, there is another" but maybe Ben just never considered that leia was strong in the force. I mean, she never exhibits any of its abilities like Luke (or Anakin in TPM) did.

-And yes I felt that Grievous was very inadequately portrayed with the knowledge of the Clone Wars iteration still fresh in our minds. He was injured and incapacitated at the end of the Clone Wars cartoon though by Mace Windu using a force crush on his chest causing his coughing and wheezing throughout Episode III. But that shouldn't have effected his resolve and brutality any. I think he could have been a bit more menacing if there had been other Jedi present while Obi Wan was fighting Grievous and had slain them in the battle. Not only would that battle been more poignant, it would also have been more of a pivotal battle showing that Obi Wan needed Jedi assistance because Grievous was so difficult of an opponent and if he had not slain Grievous then, he would have been that much more dangerous of a character latter on when Vader came to power and hunted the rest of the Jedi.

i agree that the clone wars cartoons shouldnt be needed to explain Grevious' cough (forget who said that) but other than that i do htink grevious should have/could have been more bad ass.

Overall though I felt that the film was definitely a cut above the rest and it sits squarely in 3rd place behind ESB (2nd) and ANH (1st) in my book!

I agree that it was a good movie, but I dont really know where id place it in my rank cause im not even sure how i would rank the IV, V, and VI individually. i was never any good at assigning ranks/number values to things.
