Helen Slater in her prime. *drool*

Hey now...how come noone's brought up "Howard the Duck"? I don't think its on DVD...is there an LD transfer out there?

I have a transfer of Howard on dvd, i was gonna buy a LD off ebay and do it myself but wasnt able to find any that were in my price range (well until after i got the dvd off ebay) but i think those even had the price go up to out of my range. i paid like 10 bucks i think for the disc so it wasnt too bad. its not widescreen unfortunatly and its probably vhs quality, id be down for a better version if anyone has one.

but id really like a working copy of Billie Jean if anyone has one. or maybe a vhs (LD) to transfer it from. I also have a copy of The Wizard (Fred Savage) thats of good vhs quality if i remember correctly.

monster squad is available at myspleen
there is a blade runner as well but not sure if its the version you refer to.

*edit* reverend, where did you read that song of the south was being prepped for dvd? that would be cool if its coming out. I know there are transfers as you can find them on ebay and other auction sites, but i dont know anyone that has a copy that would make it available via other means

The Liam Neeson Mystery (spoilers within but questions answered)

yeah, i always thought that Anakin's body was still in the suit as well. I mean if it wasnt Luke should have kept the Vader suit cause it would be cool, he might eventually grow into it

but seriously, I figure that (well after it was made so that the force ghost thing wasnt something anyone could do) Anakin just figured it out. I mean what do you think he does while sitting in that meditation chamber of his, my guess would be meditate . Actually, directly after Episode I i figured that the reason Qui-Gon didnt dissappear was because he didnt 'prepare' himself. Yoda passes into the force when he 'dies', Obi-Wan wasnt really cut in half, i always saw it as he vanished 'before' (maybe as) he was struck down, I mean it was his choice to 'be killed' i could have blocked that swing, probably could have even held off longer even if he wasnt able to ultimatly defeat Vader.

Ultimatly the 'explanation' of Force Ghosts and all that actually make the whole thing more confusing imho.

Also, do you have a link to that interview.

What do you mean Han wouldn't have a chance against Vader?!?!?! I can see it all now...

(wavy dream sequence transition here)

Vader cuts down Obi-Wan.

LUKE: Noooooooo!!!

HAN: Get aboard the Falcon, kid... I'll handle this.

Han runs across landing bay shooting Stormtroopers left and right as he goes. Vader looks towards Han as blast doors begin to close. Han shoots controls of blast doors, causing them to re-open. By this time he has shot all the Stormtroopers in the hangar. Han holsters his blaster and faces Vader.

VADER: I do not know you. But prepare to die, insolent pup.

Han glances at a leather bantha-whip attached to his belt and stands at the ready. Vader begins to acrobatically twirl his lightsaber all around him. Han shoots a quick look towards Luke, then quickly grabs his blaster and fires one shot which cleanly hits Vader in the chestplate which explodes. Vader collapses next to the empty robes of Ben Kenobi. Han pauses, almost as if to grin, then turns and strides towards the Falcon.

LUKE: ....

HAN: C'mon kid. Let's just hope the old man got the tractor beam out of comission or else I'll have to go back and do it myself...

(more wavy end-of-dream transition)

(PS: Whoo-hoo!!!! This is my 500th post!!!!)

The Wizard of Oz: The “ADigitalMan” Special Extended Edition
For those of you with the official DVD or special edition Laserdisc, you'll know from the supplements that the Scarecrow had an extended dance sequence during "If I Only Had A Brain" that mirror's what the Tin Man did in the following scene. It was choreographed by none other than the great Busby Berkeley. Unfortunately it was lopped out (with other things) to improve the run time (it was about three and a half minutes itself). When the movie was restored, a pristine copy of this number was still in the vaults and restored along with it, though not reinstated. Rather, it was just one gorgeous piece of supplemental material. Screw it, I put it back in. It looks positively grand. Thought I'd share my blasphemy with you guys. I think Busby Berkeley is smiling somewhere right now. Also featured on this disc as a second audio track is Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon when selected it creates what has been called the “Dark Side of Oz” synchronicity - DVD Easter egg is “Echoes: Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite” this is a synchronicity of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey and Pink Floyd’s Echoes from the album Meddle.

ok, so the film basically comes out the reel into a projector, out of that projector into another projector, out of that one and into a new real? so one of the screens will be slightly behind the other.

sounds pretty neat. wouldnt the studios be opposed to that though seeing as how you can buy (rent, however its done) less reels of the film? or is there a 'licensing' fee per screens you show it on? I dont really know much about theater operation.

so how many screens does this allow you to show the same reel on?

Boba Fett's a ninja bounty hunter, he was stalking them in the shadows, hidden in plain site

heh, actually, yeah, i would say that maybe cause hes supposedly such a good bounty hunter he 'infered' where they were going (closest system, was in that general direction) but (and i didnt load up ESB) yeah, following closely behind the Falcon, either he's really good and stayed in Han's blind spot (do space ships have blind spots what with radar and all) or Han, Chewie, and Leia are blind

Besides, he killed like 5 Imperial Officers for burning his toast earlier in the film

lol

but he is the one that also stopped Leia from being terminated immediatly thus ultimatly saving her life.

there is one other explanation for Han not seeing the shuttle. actually two, one it was far enough away or in such a position that his radar didnt pick it up (buildings and other structures will block radar) or he just flat out wasnt paying attention to his radar at that point for whatever reason, his cockiness, preoccupied because of the cloud car firing on him, lack of sleep (think about it, when did you see any of the characters sleep during the movie, they were bound to make mistakes cause they were tired )

I dont agree that just because something is said by a minor character makes it 100% true no matter what unless some other character gives a detailed explanation on why its false and the audience votes to repeal that 'movie law'

look, our responses are getting shorter...2 or 3 more and we should be all in agreement, or at least satsified with each others point of view

ok, Luke's presence could have saved Leia because it 'distracted' Vader. But whos to say that Vader would have killed Leia, or she wouldnt have escaped at some point (wouldnt be the first time she escaped) Also, the whole what if Luke didnt go to Bespin arguement doesnt really work because if he didnt go Vader may not have set up his trap there because he might have known that it wouldnt work (that whole seeing the future with the force thing)

but thats not really the point. the point is that Yoda never really leaves (or tells Luk) to leave) Leia to die which is what you said. And if Luke had stayed and completed his training there might not have been any need for another hope to be present. I mean, if this 'other' existed from the beginning why didnt Ben and Yoda just start training them both and have them fight Vader and the Emperor together, would have made it a lot easier. maybe they know more about the situation than we do.

I never continued any idea bout the Star Destroyer and TIE fighters landing. I said that the radar might not be able to distinguish (or maybe it was broken, i mean much as I love the ship, the Falcon is a 'hunk a junk') between the two. read the comment and it never even says that a ship had to currently be on the planet at the time, just that even if they were (both, just one, or none) maybe it couldnt differentiate.

there were at least a couple ships flying around, plus if han sees a blip on the radar he's supposed to assume it belongs to the Empire who he was more than convinced that he left wondering what happened to him. I mean, he's in a mining city, it could be any number of transports. plus if you go by your time line the shuttle would most likely be landing or even landed at that point so not be in range of his radar. plus floating city, access from all sides? maybe they came in the back door.

Imperial shuttle doesnt have a cloaking device because of its use in the Empire, why would they waste money fitting it with a cloaking device? also, apparently, based on the Imperial Officers comment, the Empire doesnt put cloaking devices on ships that small, which is why he would beleive that no ship that small has a cloaking device. so all it takes is for one officer to be wrong (not that much of a stretch considering who we are dealing with) and that comment means absolutly nothing.

I would be suprised it Fett didnt have a cloaking device, in his line of work its very likely that he would. which reminds me, we saw where fett was parked, did you see a docking bay with the Falcon on it? more reason to believe they were on different sides of the city.

im not squinting, i can come up with these explanations (and even more complicated ones for OT and PT) pretty darn easily. Besides, most movies have little inconsistancies here and there. I never said that these bother me. or that the ones in the PT bother me. the ones that bother me are the ones between the PT and OT that are caused by the poor planing/writing of the PT stories.

Quote

Never said there weren't explanations for these, but these are continuity errors all the same that take a considerable amount of squinting to make believable. So, anyone that can do that for these things, I don't want to hear complaints about the PT.

totally agree, goes well with my theory that many people out there consciously (or maybe subconsciously) want to hate the PT because they dont want anything to be as good as their sacred Star Wars. Even a perfect PT storyline/movies wouldnt have satisfied some people.

yeah, he does, he listed it as one of the 4 options in his next non star wars torrent to be posted. He's recently (yesterday or today) said that the first will be up soon and it was looking like the Wizard of Oz disc, but looks like the Superman (first movie) disc recently took the lead.

though Rikter always comes through so im sure it will be up eventually, just gotta have some patience

AFI Honors Lucas

I think the 'big deal' is more that it seems there are a few people that cant seem to say anything nice at all about Lucas. its even getting to the point that they are bashing his earlier works, including the OT to a point.

I mean, your free to hate him, its not like I can stop you, but dont you think its kinda childish to keep casting stones at the man. I think its getting way out of hand and was going to actually post a thread about this. First off its counter productive (providing he actually reads or has someone keep him informed of this site and its going ons to begin with and it infuences him) but even if he doesnt, look at the point of this site and why it was made. its not about hating anything (PT/SE included) its purpose (correct me if im wrong Jay) was to show that there are people that want and care about the OOT and are trying to save it and people are coming here to bash the one man that can make that happen.

yeah, i think thats probably more what it actually covers.

does anyone know if there is an official time line of the movie. I know there are official time lines for between the movies but what about for the span of the movies, or is that all fan speculation. Maybe on starwars.com or maybe the book is a bit more clear (havent read the book yet)

speaking of, does anyone have a good time line that covers the whole movie saga as well as include the EU materials

Hardcore, usually i agree with your points but i gotta admit your stretching.

just because you assumed Yoda was flat out lying to Luke about Han & Leia dying on cloud city doesnt mean he was. remember Luke asked him if they will die when it first came up and Yoda closed his eyes and looked to the future and said something along the lines of how he didnt know.

also, what did Luke actually do when he got there to save anyone. all he did was almost get himself killed and have Leia RESCUE HIM. Yoda wanted him to stay and finish his training so he would be able to succeed in destroying the Emperor and Vader when they first met. The there is another hope comment was saying that if he goes now he's not ready and he might die and not be able to destroy the Emperor and Vader so hope would be lost, and Yoda said that the other (who later became Leia) was still an option.

But didnt someone here once say that Leia & Luke werent originally gonna be brother and sister? so if you want to call it a plot hole (or poor planning/change in character/plot flow is more accurate) why dont you bring that up. Im not saying there are no 'plot holes' or more like inconsistancies in the OT, but most can be explained just as well (if not better) than the inconsistancies caused by the PT which should have never have occured because there was already plenty of 'fact' set down in the OT that could have easily been referenced/adhered to.

Maybe the radar just pickes up ships, how do you know it differentiates between TIE fighters and Star Destroyers. with all the cloud cars flying around maybe he missed it. or maybe because Han is somewhat cocky and had thought he outsmarted the empire he didnt think to check the radar while he was trying to get landing clearence. Maybe the cloud car shot at him to distract him so they had time to move the TIE's and Star Destroyers out of his sight.

Cloaking device. I believe the line was "No ship that small has a cloaking device" Keep in mind this is said by an Imperial Officer who is also probably cocky because he is the commander of a Star Destroyer of the Galactic Empire. Maybe power consumption of the cloaking devices would be too much for a normal ship that size. maybe there are civilian issue cloaking devices that you cant get put on ships that small for 'legality' reasons, ie the Empire doesnt allow it. but it never said they couldnt have one on it, just no ship does. But we all know Han has made plenty of modifications to the Falcon, many that im sure the Empire or any officials would even think to look for on his ship so why not a cloaking device. Because some Imperial Officer said so? So far in the films the Imperial Officers havent really giving me much of a reason to have the most confidence in them.

assuming radar works like it does here, its also very likely that while in a busy city a radar is a bit crowded and kind of hard to pick out an Imperial Shuttle landing. Plus, the shuttle might be 'drowned out' or all together hidden due to its positioning in the city/hangar bay/landing area.

remember it was you who said you would be willing to provide answers/reasons for the plot holes in the PT. well, you have answers/reasons provided for what you find to be plot holes in the OT but your refuse to accept them. thats your choice, but it doesn mean they arent there and more likely/logical than the ones for some of the PT errors.

if you want i can provide explanations for most of the other points you mentioned.

its not necessarily a 7-9 month span. They never say how far along she was when she first told Anakin, and she was showing at that point. remember they had been apart for what 'seems like lifetimes' or something. so unless the twins arent really Anakin's then he must have knocked her up when last he was home. which could have been been almost 9 months. Plus you assume that the development rate of a fetus out in a galaxy far, far away is the same here on earth

i think this was all mentioned in one of the other million threads that popped up after ROTS came out, its nice some of those have died off, though they did hold nice ideas/thoughts.. the only thing really left to consider is that it seemed her belly size fluctuated as time went by.

I have quite a few of the movies that he has sets for actually but would go broke buying his sets for each of them even though i would love to because he has some really nice ones (unfortunatly he also sometimes has two for the same movies and i cant make those kinds of decisions ). but i may really consider getting this for my Star Wars collection. If he would/can change the Special Edition lettering for me, id probably go with "Expanded Universe" or something like that as thats probably best suited for what i would do with it

Star Wars Saga 16 Disc Aluminum Case
Time
hmm, was thinking something like Knolly's use would be good, but then was thinking there are so many good documentary stuff out there id prob wouldnt waste a case for the official 2004 dvds

so mine would probably be

case 1:
PT 1-3, might use MagFans edits for this set.
prequal extra disc, something that encompasses all 3 kind of like a 'from sw to jedi' for the PT, dont know if there is a disc like this though, but might be one with the 2007 set.

case 2:
OOT - one of my many sets from here, currently probably would use edit droid, but probably whatever is the best so maybe one of the X0 based sets.
4th extra disc, probably the 4th disc that is extras from the DC LD transfers, or maybe from sw to jedi here.

case 3:
droids cartoon
ewoks cartoon
holiday special - (though maybe the live action ewoks would go here because its watchable)
clone wars, either both volumes on 1 dvd or use a 2 disc case like Knolly said

case 4:
not sure on the actual discs but this would be 4 cases of extras, maybe use a couple dual (triple/quadruple?) disc cases to fit more. Deleted Magic would prob go here, one or two of baby-hums releases, not really sure how id work this. maybe use dual caes and put some of ocpmovies work in 1 case, some of baby hums in another, some other docs in a third, maybe use one 3 disc case for the wookie groomers splitscreens. but id def try and get a nice selection of bonus in this one
