Bossk, you can get Lillard shorter without Barrymore -> Ford

Lillard (Wing Commander) Saffron Burrows (Deep Blue Sea) Samuel L. Jackson

for yours

Victor Mohica (Bound by Honor) Billy Bob Thorton (Armageddon) Ben Affleck (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) Mark Hamill/Carrie Fisher

from imdb's home page, and before Bewitched comes out and makes it easy

After Anakin 'died' nobody really 'took care' of R2. etc. etc.

But Palps gave the Order 66 to Commander Cody by name first!!

their clones...maybe all the Commanders were named Cody I mean, do you really think they would take the time to name each Clone Trooper when they are producing them by the thousands.

hmmm, since it was brought up.

The Captain Antillies was obviously done so we know how R2 and C-3PO came to be where they were at the start of Episode IV. My question however is about the Droids cartoon series. Was this canon? I thought this took place before Episode IV, but the PT basically throws all the background about R2 and C-3PO this series established out the window because it cant fit into the SW time line the PT set up (we know where threepio is since the day he's created now)

oops, yeah This Island Earth. Shows how much i watch MST3K. I actually got the movie for a friend of mine who likes the show and couldnt find the dvd anywhere. I took the cover from online and altered it so it has the Poster for This Island Earth on the back cover (the image on the back wasnt the best quality) Have like 3 different versions or so, not much different, just different pics on the back and slightly different pics on the front. I figured it would work nicely if i could find a DVD of the actual movie to include with the MST3K version in a dual case with this artwork.

I had no luck in my previous searches online (though i wasnt searching for a used copy of an actual dvd) and I dont do the newgroup thing, ive been meaning to get into it, so maybe ill actually do that sometime soon. But would feel kinda bad just coming in and requesting something on my first post

thanks for the info

How is it a plot error? Why should he care? Palpatine got control of the senate by manipulating them, he got their support at first by telling them who to blame for everything (the Jedi) after he did this and became Emperor and had all the power who cares what the Senate knows. And even if they did know he was a Sith why is that bad? He's the one that got rid of the 'evil Jedi' so the Sith must be good then. From Episode III you could see that he obviously had the support from most (if not all of the Senate) ok, over time people realize that he was evil and what not, but when the Senate started to pose a threat to him and his power he dissolved it.

His Military leaders obviously werent "Good Guys", it was Tarkins idea to destroy Alderaan. So he works for a Sith Lord, hes in a damn powerful position and obviously has the trust/respect (at least to some degree) of said Sith Lord. He's a power hungry military leader that was put in a position of extreme power, you think he's really loosing sleep at night because the person he works for is pure evil? I seriously doubt it. And whats the rest of the Emerial Army gonna do. I mean most of the regular soldiers probably dont care either way, and if they do they probably are looking out for theirselves, as far as their concerned they joined the side that cant loose, cause they dont want to be in the Empires path.

As far as im concerned there is nothing that needs explaining.

Well since this has kinda become a 'does anyone have' request thread. I was wondering if anyone has a DVD of This Planet Earth. The movie from MST3K: The Movie. I dont know if this was made available on LD or only vhs or what. But I wanted to put it in a two disc case with the MST3K movie.

Send me a pm if you have it or know where its available.

Any dvds of the OOT are not official releases, the only official dvd release is the 2004 set.

Yeah, you can find the OOT on dvd via ebay and sometimes at 'reasonable' prices. But you can get one of the many versions cheaper if you look around in the Preservation section here.

If you're on this site and want copies of the OT there are better ways to get them then giving money to Dark Side dealers who are just profiting off of other peoples work.

I think an extraneous 'L' got added into Besh, the pronunciation of b in Aurebesh, during shimraa's post.

Chaltab was making a joke (i think) Got a plan B -> Got a plan Besh -> Got a plan, B**ch
Shimraa missed it and said that Plan Besh wasnt the saying (refering i think to plan B being 'the saying')
basically mass confusion all around caused by Shim and Chalt (big suprise there ) and Chalt's joke getting lost to most in the process

That was my take on the 'conversation' anyway

It's kinda funny because this is kinda how I thought it would be. I really expected myself to start to slowly break down. It is Star Wars, after all. But I haven't. I don't even look longingly at the box set in stores. To be honest, I've never even picked the box up off the shelves. This is a level of resolve I've never before seen in myself. I'm proud of me.

this is kinda how i was/am when i stopped collecting the figures. though Admitedly i still get urges now and then. I've been on the fence about getting jut the first wave of episode III figures, I probably will, only thing thats stopped me so far is how many there are and what it will cost me that and I dont feel like tracking them all down to make sure I get the whole wave. Tempted to just buy the 'wave packs' that some online retailers sell (the sw.com store included)

great to have you back Laserman,

checked out the new page and it looks great. cant wait to see a final product.
speaking of which i totally agree with your 2 versions, 1 with warts and all and another with the original effects cleaned up and nothing else. that would be awsome.

Would a transfer of this quality gain any benifit from a dual layer disc when put on to dvd? If not (and maybe even if it is) a single disc that had both versions, cleaned up and original, would be pretty neat.

again, glad your back, and to everyone on the X0 team you guys are doing amazing work, keep it up

Info: Episode II Fan Edit Review ('Attack of the Phantom'?)
Time
No problem on the review, I said I would so I did Sorry it took so long for me to post it, but at least its up now.

Also, I checked out that link you posted and i dont think that this is that version. In that review it mentions scenes that were cut out that were still in this version (Anakin's dive/laugh in the speeder chase, this scene was still there though the audio on his laugh seemed to be dialed down though it could have just been me imagining things) Im not sure about the power couplings ill have to check if that was there, but im pretty sure it was. And i know for a fact that Yoda/Younglings scene was still in the movie. as was the scene with Dexter.

Plus, as I stated in my earlier review, there were none (at least to my knowledge) cut scenes reinserted (i may have missed more subtle ones, but i know the Padme at her parents was not there).

That article did get me thinking though, and I have to go back and check the subtitles (mainly the scene with the death star schematics) as that seemed different from what i remember in the official. I did do some comparison between the two sources but only to double check things. Ill need to watch it again (when i get some time) and set up my laptop/other tv next to it so i can watch both sources at the same time or at least do more direct comparison of what was cut.

That edit reviewed on theforce.net you posted looks real interesting, would be nice to track a copy of that down. And it does seem to match this edit at times. But part of the problem i had with this edit is while some of the more lame stuff was removed they left others in (and some of the stuff left in was more lame than what was taken out) and also as i said, the complete removal of most of the Anakin/Padme scenes without replacing them with at least parts of the cut scenes or even just editing them heavily. I guess it seemed more of a 'I dont like this part so Im gonna cut it' edit than an edit that made cuts to enhance the overall story and how it was told.

Info: Episode II Fan Edit Review ('Attack of the Phantom'?)
Time

A little while back Rikter offered two copies of an Episode II edit he was given in exchange for a review of the disc. I got one of the discs and didnt get a chance to watch it untill just now. But seeing as I said I would, here is my review of it.

First the video/audio quality. Rikter said this was a dvd made from a xvid file and that the quality wasnt that great but it was much better than i was expecting from his comments about it, infact i had no complaints with the audio or video quality. There were a 1 or 2 parts that skipped a little but it seemed partially player related and not really due to any editing. (major jumpy part was during the arena battle when Anakin jumped on the bull thing and looped the chain around his neck, but there didnt seem to be an edit at this point to cause that so it might have been my player, the disc, or the encoding)

Next, the scenes that were cut.
This edit only cut scenes and peices of dialogue out in order to ‘improve the pacing’. I did not notice any deleted scenes that were restored. So here is the list of scenes/dialogue that was cut (what i noticed, which i think is most if not all, i did jump to the official dvd to check a few times)

  • Corde’s line about failing Padme was cut, she only says I’m sorry
  • Yoda’s line to Padme about seeing her alive bringing war thoughts to his heart
  • the alien that ‘curses’ the jedi when Anakin blasts by him on the speeder is cut. (during the chase scene in Coruscant)
  • Part of the convo between Obi-Wan and Anakin about the speeder. Anakin just says, you know me, couldnt find a speeder i like and his other comments are cut out.
  • Anakins laughing when diving straight down in the speeder towards the big ship seems to be muted out
  • The “I think” is cut out before Anakin says “Its a shortcut”
  • after Anakin’s “short-cut” he and Obi-Wan says “now youve lost him” Anakin replys with “I’m deeply sorry”, then with “if you’ll excuse me” cutting out Obi-Wans dialogue in between
  • The guy offering Obi-Wan deathsticks is cut out of the cantina scene
  • When Anakin talks to Palpatine about getting Padme to go to naboo, the word ‘and’ was cut when Palps says ‘And so i see they finally gave you your own mission’ (or something along those lines. Not a big deal, but it results in a fairly choppy switch so it seems like something was cut out.
  • When Anakin and Padme go to board their ship, the line “At least we have artoo” and Padme’s subsequent laugh is all cut out. It just has Anakin say “Im afraid too” or whatever his exact line was
  • The scene with artoo getting Padme and Anakin food is cut, it starts off with Padme thanking artoo for bringing them food.
  • When the arrive on Naboo, the scene where Padme says how she wasnt the youngest queen ever elected, and the scene where they see the new queen have been cut. It goes right to the scene with Anakins infamous “I hate sand” line
  • The picnic scene is gone
  • the dinner scene is cut
  • Parts of the fireplace scene are cut, the Anakin’s line about ‘the kiss you never should have given me’ , ‘if your suffering as much as i am’ and Padme’s ‘if you follow your thoughts to conclusion’ (just that part) are all gone
  • When C-3PO goes into the droid factory on Geonosis and his ‘Machines making machines’ line is cut, but he still says ‘How preverse’
  • When Anakin’s saber is cut in the droid factory his ‘Obi-wan is gonna kill me’ line is cut
  • Padme’s ‘Ive been dying a little each day’ line was cut from the scene right before they enter the arena
  • there was a s
  • The comment Padme makes during the battle about aggressive negotiations was cut
  • C-3PO’s ‘Die Jedi Dogs’ line was cut, as well as his “I’m quite besides myself” line
  • when Dooku fights Yoda, right before they fight with lightsabers, Dooku’s line “It’s obvious this battle cannot be determined by our knowlege of the force, but with our skills with a lightsaber” has been shortened to cut out ‘but with our skills with a lightsaber’

My thoughts.
Overall I thought it was a decent edit, but it really didnt change the movie in a positive way, i would rather watch the Official dvd for a few reasons. While it did try to remove some of the more cheesy lines (many of which people here have discussed removing in various edit threads) it left just as many in some (most) of which were more annoying/weaker lines then the ones cut. Some of the lines were also ones that werent really that annoying to begin with and were some of the better ‘comedy’ lines.

Also some of the scenes that were cut didnt really increase the flow in my opinion. I think this was because even though some of the dialogue in the scenes that were removed was cheesy (mainly the Anakin/Padme ‘romance’, as this is mostly what was cut) they still provided us with info and showed the growing romance (even if not very well). So the problem that arouse was that no scenes were put in place of these, so the ones that were left in tact (which also had lines cut out) felt somewhat ‘hollow’ or as they were missing something, like we didnt have all the info (which i guess we didnt)

Overall, i think it gets the same basic storyline across as the official movie, but looses a little bit of the relationship development between Anakin/Padme (even though this might not have been done the greatest, i think that removing it all together is not the answer, i think some of the other edits in discussion with creative editing on these scenes as has been talked about will do it more justice) However, i really didnt see a flow improvment, or think this flowed any better or was paced any better/faster than the official movies, and maybe even at times lacked information/developments that the offical movie at least tried to get across, even if not executed all that well.

think that about sums it up, i can answer questions and/or elaborate on specific points if anyone so desires.

-Darth Simon

p.s. I dont think this edit has a name (at least not one i know of) so dont really know how to refer to it except as an Episode II edit. If anyone has more info on its origins please chime in as im sure Rikter would like to know as well (if he hasnt found out already)

FOX issuing takedown notices to Sith downloaders
Time
My uncle told me an article he read the other day (6/3 i think). Pretty sure it was in the Wall Street Journal, but i could be wrong. anyway, it said that the movie studios only make about 20% of their profit from a movie from the Box office sales. The other 80% comes from dvd/vhs sales (pretty sure these numbers didnt include revenue from marketing tie-ins and action figures and stuff like that). This is part (most) of the reason movies are comming out on dvd earlier than before. The longer the movie stays in the theater the more people see it and the less people buy(rent?) the dvd/vhs because theyve already seen it. Obviously big fans of the show/movie will buy the dvd even if they see it multiple times in the theater, but not everyone does. They dont know what the exact numbers/formula for how long to keep a movie in the theaters and how soon to release it to dvd is yet, but its being studied.

So my point is, that you may not think that bootlegging the dvd hurts that much, and it probably doesnt in the case where your downloading it before the official one is released, providing the people that download it buy the official one (as apposed to not buying it because they have a bootleg) But if people start bootlegging official dvds (which is done) then that is cutting into a bigger part of the studios profits. Not saying they need the money, but its still stealing and its still hurting revenue (which a lot of arguements say it doesnt)

before you say it doesnt, make sure you realize that i did mention the caveat of fans that will download the bootleg but also buy the official dvd when it comes out.
