just read the newsletter and i was compelled to say how amazed i was by what you guys have done...im in total aww.

on a somewhat related note, do you think at some point you guys could either write a nice how to, or point us to a good guide on writing these kinds of scripts for programs like avisynth (i know, videohelp and doom9 probably have all ill ever need). I have the programming knowledge (at least i think i do) i just dont have the video knowledge to acompany it to do the kind of things you guys are doing.

That would be cool, id like to see a dvd with the documentary and then also have some 'walkthrough' (footage) of the actual exhibit. I saw this cause i happened to be in DC when it was at the Smithsonian but never got to go back with my brother. and the pictures i took didnt come out. Wish it was showing now as I now live in the area, I would def go with camera in hand and get all the pictures/video I could. I think there was a book put out by them, I may have bought it, Ill have to check, it would be at my parents if i did and as it turns out im going this weekend.

first people were saying how things dont need to be spelled out, or hand fed to us by Lucas. Thats totally different then fleshed out. the best definition i found is here where they say it means "To give substance or detail"

when the characters flat out state something that is stupidly obvious that is spoon feeding us. When the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan is shown, and we get to see them acting as two really great friends, and their actions make us feel the bond between them that is fleshing out the relationship. Lines like "Your the closest thing i have to a father" or 'you're my best friend ani', 'and you're mine too obi', 'best friends forever man' isnt fleshing it out, its being insulting to the viewers intelligence. 'See they said they are friends so they must be' The part where Anakin refuses to leave Obi-Wan behind after saving palpatine and killing Dooku, starts to show it, but there wasnt enough stuff like this, it was all told to us. we needed more stuff like this to show why he wouldnt leave him, why he cared about Obi-Wan so much and vice versa. Basically this doesnt have the same effect as if we had scene it, lived the growth of their friendship with them. Then it would have been personal to us. The battle at the end would have carried even more emotion than it did (i know some people dont think it had much emotion at all, but i think it did). When Obi-Wan says "You were like a brother to me" to Anakin it would have been orders of magnitudes more powerful, and caused much more emotions to stir in the audience because Anakin would have been betraying all of us, not just Obi-Wan.

-Darth Simon

ps. Slightly off topic. In Ep II Anakin says Obi-Wan is like his father (on at least 2 occasions), In Ep III Obi-Wan refers to him as a brother, and Anakin now refers to Palpatine as a Father. Did anyone else find this and the whole closeness Palps had to Anakin weird. I mean, for me it seemed like given a choice, Anakin would have chosen Palpatine over Obi-Wan, the latter of which is supposed to be his best friend in the whole world. I thought this cheapened the Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship for me.

Six DVD set to look like this?
Time
ROTS is comming out in november.

I believe that there is also a repackaging of the current discs at around that time or possibly around Christmas time, though im not sure on that, that may have just been speculation.

As far as the 2007, my guess would that will be when more changes are made and possibly new transfers of the OT, but I dont know if there is any hard info on that release yet, someone else might know better

harder to destroy shield? maybe one with multiple sources (would make more sense out the shield wrapped around the Death Star as well if there was say 3 or four sources (and not they 'an energy loss at any of the points will cause the tractor beam to fail' type sources). Also, why not have the shield generator(s) on the Death Star itself? Just a couple ideas off the top of my head, though i prob would have built something different (dont know what) or like in the one book they did the construction in the center of some crazy hard to pass gravity well area. this was the book that had the weapon that could destroy entire solar systems (and some Punk Jedi kid Luke was training that i forget his name)

maddog00, its def a fake (at least in my opinion) I read as far as:

before i was sure of this. Im suprised no one else picked up/commented on this. If the majority of the changes are to be in IV-VI and everytime he makes changes he 'trashes' the previous version. Why would he release a Prequal box set seperatly just so people didnt have to buy his new versions where more changes have been made to mainly the OT? He wouldnt thats why.

also this comment makes no sense (again imho):

my money's on 2007 for the next Star Wars on DVD release.

how does the first set being a year old matter. Guarenteed there are some people that havent bought the current set that would buy this (if this were true), there would be some people that would buy this even though they have the other one, and the people that wouldnt buy it cause they either a) didnt want it at all or were b) waiting for the OOT on dvd wouldnt affect the situation either way. How does combining the two really hurt the sales situation...if anything it will boost sales because some people that might be just going out to buy ROTS may decide to get this set instead of just ROTS. And why would this release stop/have any effect on a 2007 release?

A revised opinion of George Lucas

In addition to what warbler said, but somewhat in a different direction.

You said you were putting this in your portfolio. Does it not bother you at all that you will show this as a 'painting' you did and use this portfolio to get a job or into college (as i am assuming thats why you have a portfolio) yet it wont bet the painting you did, it will be an altered work. and its not even altered by your own brush, keeping it as a painting you did, its now been altered digitally. why didnt you just do the whole thing in photoshop if that was your original view? did you not have the technology to get the perspective correct when you painted it?

not trying to bash what your doing (or even say its wrong), and this isnt meant as a personal attack. Just trying to make a point that not only is what you did different from what lucas did to an extent. But also that the changes you made do have an effect on your work and perception others have of it/you

the amount of people killed doesnt make it more vunerable or not. They had the whole fleet at DSII yes, but did they need it...not really. That was just because of more protection from the Imperial Fleet caused the rebels to need their own fleet.

Ok, maybe they passages would have been closed up, thats very likely, greencapt's explanation satisfied me, but at the time it was attacked DSII was more vunerable than DSI, everyone that has 'defended' the corridors has basically said this. Because it was still under construction it was more vunerable, because it was more vunerable the Empire had a shield on it.

The dual death star thing doesnt bother me, it was more of the fact that it didnt seem the Empire learned anything and protected it any better that bother(s/ed) me about it. So it had a shield on a base that didnt really seem to take much to destroy, once that was gone it was totally defensless save the Fleet surrounding it. Did they do anything to the DS itself to prevent an attack from small fighters? (save the temporary shield that was inplace during construction) it didnt appear so.

Put both Death Stars out in the middle of space with nothing to protect them, or maybe jut themselves to protect them. as they were when they were destroyed, the 2nd one would be easier to destroy as if your willing to sacrafice yourself you can destroy it with no missles, the first takes a very skilled pilot to fire a very precise shot into a very small hole.

The empire was just sloppy on the Death Star II's construction...like Luke told the Emperor "You're overconfidence is your weakness" and guess what, it was oh so true.

That's actually not a bad idea. For the price of your unopened set, you might be able to get an opened set as well as an excellent VCR. Maybe Silverwook can point you in the right direction, since I know he's in contact with a lot of collectors.

while its true that these are worth more sealed to collectors, it may be actually better to remove the plastic wrap.

as many of you know from one of my other posts i have a friend that works over in the Library of Congress. She is working cataloguing various vinyls. and sometimes she gets rare discs that are still shrink wrapped and she commented to me how she kinda feels bad because she knows she is reducing the price by like 90%. but she went on to say that the plastic shrinks over time (this is more of a problem for older plastics) and can cause the disc to warp...i dont know how much of a problem this could cause for vhs or laserdisc as records are much less sturdy than these, but it is something to keep in mind/consider. Maybe if collectors really knew the open stuff would be worth more...

ok, just watched the scenes again and yeah, i guess they do actually loop around the core and go out the same way the came in (at least that arguement could be made) but the part they go in/out of doesnt appear to be the barely completed section as it looks to be the surface...also, the schemetic/holo of it (shown shortly after they core is destroyed) shows 4 such 'pathways' into the center of the ship.

I dunno, the fact that they can fly a ship into the thing just makes it seem more vunerable than the small exhaust port on the first one. and i dont think the construction necessarily accounts for the ship size (and not just small ships either) tunnels in the Death Star II.

either way, I think that Obi-wonton's idea could be done...i would be very interested to see a 1 epic movie version along the lines of what i said in my first post and maybe if i Obi-wonton's edit doesnt do that i may give it a shot at some point when i have more free time to play around with it. Kind of as a 'condenced saga' version of the OT

yeah, i didnt think to much about it, i posted that idea as a real rough overview...I guess my thought was just that using the first death star at the end would give it a more complete look, thus the appearance of work actually getting completed on it by the time the rebels located it. So yeah, some combination of the two battles would probably work.

The problem i have with this second death star is that they could fly through the whole thing. the first one needed a force guided shot of a proton torpedo to go into a 2 meter wide hole to set off a chain reaction to destroy it. the second one was, fly into it (with the falcon to boot) and just shoot the main reactor. what seems more vunerable to you? while yes it was fairly uncompleted, they flew 'straight through' the DSII. and since only one 'half' was not built, that means their had to be an opening for them to fly into/out of on both sides.

the redundency never really bothered me...i mean now i look at it and am like, the Empire is pretty stupid...think they could have come up with something better except..."damn, they blew up our 'invincible' battle station...what will we do?" "I know we can build a new one that is more vunerable." "Why, thats just crazy enough that it might work...get right on it"

but i think thats an interesting idea what you have in mind...is there anyway you can make it one like maybe 4-6 hour movie? maybe it starts off with the start of episode IV, replace the death star with the ROTJ version, can still have alderaan get blown up maybe (this part i would need to think about) after they save Leia they run to hoth, where the empire chases them, basically ESB happens, beginning of Jedi happens, you wanted to remove the ewoks you said (which i dont mind them, but only one 'destruction of the DS' can be used anyway) so then it goes to the ANH death star fight/ending. all done as one continuous cut/movie

would be pretty different, would prob get a lot of flack from some people if you did that, but i think it would be interesting to see.
