Printing out DVD Labels
Time
We bought this printer (well actually the Epson R300) for my mom last christmas so she can print out pictures from her digital camera, and I have to say this thing is great. The CD/DVD printing actually is used more by my brothers and I, but its still great. Ive considered getting my own, since i live out of state and cant use it as often as id like (i also feel kinda bad about using all my mom's ink ).

You can get the R300 which has a few other features, for like $97 online (search pricewatch.com) The other nice thing about these printers (and epsons in general as compared to HP's which is what i currently have and used to use) is the seperate ink cartridges for each color. plus even getting a set of all the colors is still cheaper than one HP cartridge

as far the sharpies and writing on the cds, ive heard of the paper labels messing up the spin and/or peeling off, but didnt hear the ink thing or the sharpie thing. I did hear some 'crap' about the sharpie bleeding through the disc over time which makes absolutly no sense, but whatever...i think thats just to scare people so they buy more expensive 'CD Writing Pens' which are basically just sharpies made by the cds companies Also, the ink seems to be applied fairly evenly so i doubt it will interfer with the spin/balance and does ink melt? Either way, if I had my way, id buy one of those nice color laser printers that can print on discs

I told them that we need FCP to put the clips in order, make a quicktime movie of them, and compress them to Mpeg2 from there. Then I told them we need DVD studio Pro to handle the encoding to DVD because iDVD cant handle Mpeg2 encoding. They kept saying things like "I don't understand.." And i wonder how can I explain it any simpler to them?
This is what I have to look forward to, 4 or 5 days of nothing but encoding 60 hours worth of material to DVD. And that's just the NTSC DVD masters. Then I gotta convert the timeline to PAL and encode that to DVD.

wait, why cant i just put these quicktime clips on a DVD straight from the hard drive?

sorry, i couldnt resist

if its not readable cause of dirt/scratches try running it through a disc doctor (aka game doctor, dvd doctor, etc) this thing is great and has fixed many a scracted dvd/cd for me before.

if you dont have one, dont know anyone that has one, or dont want to buy one (they cost about $20-30 iirc) send me a pm or email (email prefered, check my profile).

I did use the link tags...it is a link. I also post the link as the clickable text of the link incase for any reason the link doesnt work for someone they can copy the text and paste it in their browser. I have always done that in any of my posts here (save maybe one or two)

but since the link is clickable I really fail to see what the problem is. there are quite a few people that post url's as plain text and you havent complained about any of those, yet you are complaining about a long string of text that all you have to do is click? Im confused as to what exactly the problem is.

while I agree with your comments, according to the guy in the article i linked they changed certain aspects of the figure (red snaggletooth) that makes it appear more like a very similar character that is in the cantina in the holiday special. and he also says that the picture shown on the card is taken from the holiday special.

like i said, thats the first i heard of that, and was mainly wondering if anyone had ever heard that before and what your opinions on it (it being the comments in the article) were

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread

Ugh,

So i went to seed ADigitalMan's Episode II last night
and my computer wouldnt connect to the internet last night. But i did copy the disc to my hd, and figured id bring my laptop to work...booted it up and apparently only about 25% of the disc copied. There are already 10 seeders so i figure its not that big of a deal, and since i cant really do anything until i get home tonight, which wont be until about 10:30 tonight, at which point there will probably (if people stay on) be more than 10 seeders.

What about the part about the red snaggletooth being unofficially from the holiday special?

that link i posted was the first i heard about that, but I had heard plenty about the 2 figures before.

heh, I just thought of something, I think sometimes people take events from some movies/shows as references to SW when in reality its just a coincidence or its just something unintentional that you can convince yourself is a parallel to SW. So anyway, this is a long way of saying, The red snaggletooth 'vs' the blue snaggletooth is like the red vs blue in HALO

I think the designers of the game were making a nod to star wars geeks everywhere

I think I failed to catch the resemblance because Bogart's Rick was much more subtle about the help he tried to provide.
Plus, Barbwire isn't a movie you really think much about as you watch it...if you get my meaning.

heh, couldnt think of the name?
yeah, im sure the patron came in and was like someone told me about this Casablanca remake, I dont know the name, but its in the future with a blond. because he didnt want to come in and say, do you have Barbwire, that movie with Pamela Anderson.

there was also 2 snaggletooth's but thats a pretty well known variation.

Chaltab.

I suggest you scan you computer with some fancy virus checking software. may i suggest http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm. And it would also be prudent to check for spyware
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html.

then, since your running xp, its in your best interest to have a virus program installed as well as a firewall (even if its just the windows firewall) Take the time to configure it as its worth it.

hmmm, now that i gave all that info i realize i should have asked a few other questions.
1) have you rebooted? and if so does this problem still occur?
2) are you having other issues? (ie, whats the reason you initially tried to open the taskmanager)

I would then ask if anything out of place is running, but kinda hard to check if you cant run task manager

as you said Ctrl + Alt + Del will run the task manager

You can also

Right click on the task bar and then click the Task Manager option
or
Ctrl + Shift + Esc
or as starkiller suggested
Start->Run and then the command is taskmgr

to open the task manager

there maybe another way to run it as well but I can only remember those 4

oh, also, you do have administrative privilages correct? if you are just a user you may not be able to run task manager (i dont remember i never run as anything but an administrator, at least when im doing anything more than web browsing)

Will...er, I mean Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Good point Gillean. It really is a new (and from what i hear a more true) adaptation of the book and not a remake of the movie. I guess ive kinda looked at it that way but never really thought about it that way if it makes sense.

I think why most people have problems with it is just for the above reason, they are looking at it as a remake of the movie. Its actually sad, but I dont think most americans realize that most of the movies they watch have their origins in book/print form (not talking about the script talking about their first publication is a book or short story).

I was also somewhat 'against' this movie at first too. by against i really just mean i had no interest to see it (even though ive read the book) but when i found out it was supposed to be closer to the book, and then saw the trailer i actually became interested to see it. Because the original has become such a classic I think that causes some resistance, I mean, how dare they change this classic movie (I think we can all relate to that) and that is where peoples (in general, i realize its not everyone, and that people on this board tend to be more 'cultured' than your average joe) lack of knowledge of the book, and that the new movie is a truer adaptation of the book hurts peoples perception on it.

I think im starting to ramble, so hopefully that makes some sense

DAYV, i may be mistaken but is closed caption more along the lines of (if not the same as) subtitles for the hearing impaired?

ie, most discs offer 'english' and 'english for the hearing impaired' as subtitle options...the difference being that the second one will have sound effects, background noise/music as subtitles so people that cant hear very well are able to 'see' that people are clapping (for example)

Chaltab, while i appreciate your postings in this thread very much (your one of the few that actually posts on topic stuff here)

you need to do a little quality control on your pics. Often your links come up forbidding/access denied/or dead. and the badly photoshopped pic of Catherine Zeta Jones (probably done by some fan boy to start/support rumors of her playing Wonder Woman in an upcoming movie) when you post the real pic like 2 pics down. and a few of your other postings had obviously cgi pictures.

but by all means, dont stop posting pics
