What about all those other round (and half circle) windows seen fleetingly in the dining room scene and out side the room? No one notice those?

If anything, I think that the sky in the original window is too hazy. Otherwise, I think that the quick mockup is too desaturated, wrong angle, too sharp, too many buildings etc. as has been previously pointed out.

I think that the sky should resemble the sky from the scene with Leia in the window and it has only a little haze in the distance.

About the time of the arrival:

RoccondilRinon said:

Either way, all the action at Cloud City after their arrival takes place over a single day — same day if they arrive at sunrise, next day if they arrive at sunset.

I disagree. It must have been different days. I think at least three days .. if the days are as long as on earth.

Leia complains about not having heard of C-3PO for a long while. Han is later tortured for a long while, Lando and Vader argue and Han gets frozen all before Luke arrives - while the sun is still up. This means that if all that had happened on the same day, then Han and Leia would have met Vader for Lunch.

1. The time between early morning and lunch is not long enough time for Chewie to start worrying and go and search for C-3PO and then find C-3PO at the most unlikely spot. Chewie would have taken more time to wait for C-3PO to show up by himself, and then take longer time to search for the droid.

2. The repairs may take some time. We have already seen that they were difficult. If they took only a couple of hours to complete, then they would have been done already.

3. Why would Lando say "You truly belong here with us
among the clouds." to a girl that he has just met? He is smooth, but not that smooth to pull that off.

The script mentions the time-of-day of the arrival as "dawn". However, the SE throws that around by inserting the longer landing sequence. In that sequence, most of the buildings windows are lit. I find it more likely that the windows would be lit at dusk than in the very very very early morning. I also get the impression that the sky is darker on the platform than when Millenium Falcon is in the clouds.

To me, an arrival at dusk would also carry the symbolism that their chase is over.

Later, I think that the preparation of the carbon freezing chamber, Han's torture, Chewie's work on the droid and Luke's flight would take some time.

"No, seriously... which one's your favorite?"
Time

Favourite movie: Return of the Jedi.

Even though I think that Empire Strikes Back is a better movie from an objective standpoint, ROTJ is more emotionally significant for me.

Favourite object: Old Ben's Lightsaber. Cobbled together from several rare real-world artifacts.

Favourite ship: X-wing, ever since the Battle of Yavin

Favourite character: Luke. "From Zero to Hero"

Favourite Star Wars actor: Ian McDiarmid. Perfect in ROTJ, amazing in the prequels.

Favourite themes: The brief "Luke and Leia" theme from ROTJ

Yeah, Bingowings is right, I think. The people on Alderaan had to have had some idea they were in peril. After all, Bail Organa was well aware what the Death Star was because of his affiliation with the Rebel Alliance. And he surely would have tried to get his people away.

How about a monitor in the background somewhere inside the Death Star observation room, showing a video of Jimmy Smits' face, him being visibly upset and concerned about the Imperial presence, rambling on in desperation to save his people.

There must be a lot of material that could be used, and what he is actually saying would not be much of an issue. It would only detract from the scene if we heard him. It would make sense for the Imperials to have the sound muted -- they ignore him anyway.

There could also be, like a radar display somewhere, with blips showing ships blasting off from the planet. Seeing that the Death Star II's laser was used to destroy ships, it would only make sense that the gunner's control room would have targeting systems that show ships.

In the current version the Rebels sneek in and when they are captured and lead outside we see a medium force of troopers with a few AT-STs and a few bikes ...

That struck me too when I saw the movie on TV the other day.

In the shot where the Imps run in after the Rebels, there are only a pair of stormies and a pair of officers, when the place should be swarming with stormtroopers.

Btw, the second AT-ST that is walking around when the Rebels are led outside is translucent and green. Instead of trying to try to make that walker look better, I think it would be better to replace it with a few AT-STs surrounding the clearing, with their guns pointing down.

Managed to get some more materials and started building the Asteroid trench but its just so damn hot here the plaster and other stuff is drying out way too quick. not a great start. lol.

How about using an air-humidifier? I have one that is quite effective, with a nozzle that I can point where I want the mist. I also think it helps a bit to soothe a sore throat, so maybe it could help against your hay-fever also. Maybe someone you know has one that you cold borrow for this project.

Plaster does not get hard by "drying". It cures hard in a chemical reaction, and (at least in my experience), the curing time is the same even if you mix it with a lot more or a lot less water than the prescribed ratio. After it has cured, the plaster needs to dry to become hard and be less brittle. You can not add plaster to dry plaster - the cured plaster needs to be wet for the uncured plaster to bond to it.

I am on the fence about seeing endor in all the shots

don't get me wrong it looks cool, but it needs to be done right

there is a great opportunity here for the imperial fleet to come into view as they orbit the forest moon & block the rebels as apposed to just sitting there in open space in a tight formation as they are now,

But the problem lies with the throne room, surely we should be able to see the horizon line of the DSII from that POV, which would make it impossible for luke to see the battle as it would be happening under neath the horizon as it is now. this calls into question where the throne room is in relation to the DSII's main weapon.

The story, (according to various books) is that the throne room tower is located at the DS2's north pole. I assume that the direction of the Emperor's window is pretty much aligned with the superlaser.

There is not just that window, though. There are several, in which Endor could be made seen. But it has to be consistent with the light on the window frames.
And then there is the question: Wouldn't a green light in the background be a distraction from the main action?

I think that it is not only flying too close, the Slave I model is too large in the fly-by shot. It should be only a fraction of the size of the Falcon -- not the same size.

If the Millenium Falcon and the Slave I elements could be separated and put together with different timing so that the Falcon passes the camera sooner, then maybe that could alleviate both issues.

The scale/distance is no longer a problem when the camera has finished turning and the Falcon can be seen again because then the Slave I's larger size will just make the Falcon look like it is farther away.

No offence, but ... Really?

That is quite a long list you have there.

Don't tell me that you are doing all the work yourself! I am afraid that things are going over your head.

Perhaps someone should do the reverse of the Hayden insert at put Seb Shaw's ghost into Hayden's costume.

This idea makes soo much more sense than putting Haydens head in there.

I think it would be simple and sufficient to just replace the light yellowish tunic with a still image of one of Anakin's tunics from the Ep2 or Ep3. The inner tunic/turtleneck and outer robe don't need any alteration.

Bingowings said:

If he just wanted to experiment couldn't he have done it somewhere private (like a broken down toilet in a disused railway depot in Brazil) instead of in the as yet only official SE DVD release set?

Unfortunately you do have to pay but its relatively cheap...

Just search for "Star Wars"

Also quite handy for those making DVD covers (that's how I found it)

There is also the Star Wars Archives forum, which is free.

Btw, Adywan is working from a high-resolution copy of the SE/DVD-version from 2004, which was aired on a HD TV channel in Germany a few years ago. So he has already access to snapshots from the entire movie at 1920x817 (without the black borders)

there was a line that was originally in the ROTJ duel that was removed or not recorded but may be reconstructed.

uke at some point said, "I will not become a slave to the Dark Side".

If this could be put back in it would underline how Vader was born a slave and has remained a slave all his life without the need for a flashback.

Oh yes. I really want this, if it can be done.

I was angry at George after ROTS for not having explored this angle more in that film whose events were suppose to mirror those in ROTJ.

DuTwan said:

Hey Adywan just wonderin, maybe we could increase the number of Ewoks in the ROTJ end battle...

...though British soldiers had guns and cannons they lost their batlle agaisnt the Zulu's that carried spears and arrows. This was achieved by the sheer numbers, so Ewoks, thousands of them lmao

Agreed. I think that some tricks need to be used to make the Ewoks victory more believable, and adding more Ewoks would certainly help.

The Ewoks should have had some skirmishes with the Imperials already, and should have built up great anger and gathered an army of ewoks from many villages from this part of Endor. The Rebels had shown up just in time to join them. The appearance of their golden god was an omen that told them that they would be victorious.

The cuteness factor of the Ewoks needs to be turned down also. Their facial expressions could become more animated to make them look more angry and fierce.

If possible, maybe some Rebels could also be added.

I don't like the idea of removing too much though. The drama in the battle relies on the battle going bad for the Rebels on several fronts at once (shield still up, ambush, the emperor revealing his plan) and then turning.

the thing is, since i'm so use to hearing this line, is that mon mothma said the data was brought to them by bothan spy's. its too hard to imagine bobba doing it, kinda corny. hey, if u wanna scene of him leaving, go ahead.

Noooo.. Have you not read about Tag and Bink? Sheesh .... ;)

Mon Mothma said that "Manny Both-Hanz" died to bring the information. Manuel Both-Hanz was killed by Boba Fett (who was wearing only his underwear at the time) who missed when he was trying to hit Tag and Bink, so in a way, yes, Boo-Boo was involved.

There is one addition in the trailer that I find a little bit silly, though. That is that the Echo Base gun turret shoots after the Snowspeeders after they have passed it.

  • The gun turret fires very close to where you would extrapolate the snowspeeders to fly.
  • The snowspeeders have yet some time to reach the AT-AT walkers. So, the AT-AT's would still be quite far from the gun turret. Right?

Hypothetical: What would you KEEP?
Time

I would not change events. The story in the old movies, and in the wealth of PT-era EU material would stand.

There is a wealth of material in the EU which we could draw from, and most of it I consider much much better than the PT movies.

I would instead do my best to show the same events from other perspectives and to show more of other events than those in the old PT movies.

There are many loose ends that could be continued on. I would like to emphasize more the religious and moral aspects. For instance, the controversy and schism within the Jedi order about using living and breathing (although willing) slaves as soldiers in the Clone Wars. I would show more of the Jedi vs. Sith - back story. More Force mysticism. Show how Qui-Gon's belief in the Force is different from the mainstream, and why he is considered to be somewhat of a maverick. I would show the relationship between Count Dooku and Qui-Gon. etc. I would show Anakin's Jedi Trials and knighting during the Clone Wars.

A late Happy Birthday to you, Adywan!

In which currency would you like donations?

Great trailer! I seem to have missed the discussion of why the cityscape seen at the end of the corridor (when Luke had just landed on Cloud City) needed to be changed.

Is it just me, or ... does that Imperial Tech in the middle look a lot like Zachary Quinto? Coincidence?

What do you think? Should I paint a mock-up?

YES!!!

OK then.

The mock-up is a little bit messy, but I hope that I can get the idea across.

I think that it would be easiest to change anything in this shot only because it is a static painting with overlayed elements and not a flying camera.

Leia's apartment mockup

The "fat building" behind the platform has been lowered to align the platform's height with that seen in the previous shot. The alignment is also better with the round-topped structure to the left of the fat building.

The "Tyrell Corp" building has been heightened and move to the back. Leia's apartment is now in a separate tower, outcropping from the main structure, but lower than it.

By the way, having a higher building behind Leia's tower would also help continuity with a shot later when Lando enters the apartment by walking down a flight of stairs into the room and we get to see the corridor outside being at a higher level.

A large building in the far back has been reinserted from the O-OT to add depth in the image. (it looks bad here because I cut and pasted from OOT and Adywan's color-corrected SE)

I wonder if this would be possible to the "cloud car fly-by":

  • In the fly-by, modify the top of Leia's building so that only a small tower on the right-most tip remains.
Leia's window would then be facing left in the fly-by shot and the large bulbous building need not be changed here.
  • In the shot with Leia moving about, make the bulbous building slightly shorter to align the platform's height to the building's facade. I think that it would be easier to change it here than in the previous shot.
  • In the shot with Leia moving about, open up the perspective to how it was in the OOT by making Leia's window smaller and move it to the right. (This was discussed a few paged back)
This would reveal buildings to the right of the large bulbous building. I think that it would work to reuse lower-resolution sources to fill this space. The distance to the (old) buildings would be quite far, and we can explain the blurry pixels as "atmospheric haze"

What do you think? Should I paint a mock-up?

I can't believe that there are people who still defend the Jabba scene in ANH-SE:

ChainsawAsh said:

I don't think putting Jabba in is necessary at all.

1) His scene becomes redundant with the lines of dialogue moved from there to Greedo's scene

2) Jabba comes across as a pushover who isn't dangerous in the slightest

3) The tail ... oh Christ the tail ...

4. This scene becomes the first time that we see the Millenium Falcon. That fact completely ruins the scene when Luke sees the Falcon for the first time and gets to exclaim "What a piece of Junk!".

5. There is a (two?) guy here that looks like and is dressed exactly like Greedo. What's up?

6. Why would Jabba contradict what Greedo says and let him off the hook? That removes the motivation why Han is so ruthlessly chased by Boba Fett later on.

7. Showing Jabba destroys the mystery around his character.

May 18, 1999, how did you feel before Episode I?
Time

1. What were your expectations going in Episode I?

I expected like it would be like all the bad bits that had been inserted into the SE, but more of it: crappy CGI, making comedy of aliens getting hurt, weak plot, shots that don't make sense, etc. I did not think that they would be able to recreate the Star Wars feel.

I did expect to be dazzled by great visuals. I did also expect the overall plot to be more interesting and the dialogue to be less cheesy than the final result.

2. What did you think of the trailers released in 1998/99?

I avoided all spoilers like the plague.

I was in school at the time. When someone played a trailer on a computer nearby in the computer room, I closed my eyes, put my hands over my ears and sang loudly so that I would not see or hear anything until it was over.

3. Did you read any SW Insiders magazines, spoilers on the internet? Anything from them that stuck out to you?

I avoided reading magazines that I thought could contain anything about Star Wars.

The only spoiler from a magazine was a picture in Wired Magazine of Battle Droids debarking a landing craft. I thought "Hey, this looks pretty cool". Then i read the first lines in the caption, and panic struck. I immediately closed the magazine and never opened it again.

From the posters of the movie, I had got the impression that Liam Neeson and Pernilla August were playing husband and wife and that Anakin was their son.

6. When did you finally see it, opening night? opening weekend? wait for the crowds to die down and saw it later in the summer?

I think that I saw it on the third night. I could not get tickets for the premiere.

It was not shown in theatres over here in Sweden until September. A buddy had a pirated DVD that I could have seen in the beginning of June, but I wanted to see it on the big screen.

Those three months were HELL ... Spoilers on billboards on the street, talk about Star Wars on television and in magazines.. It was everywhere, and I had to avoid it.

My buddy had spoiled me about Jar-Jar, but I did not think that he was going to be that bad as he actually was.
