I think they pretty much film everything during pre- and production, for the purpose of using stuff for special features.

In what universe did "kids" use "living in your mother's basement" as a "burn"?
Given that kids tend to all live in rooms in their mothers' houses, I seem to recall the kids with relatively remote and removed basement digs as being among the more envied. They usually had drum kits too.
I definitely have the feeling the OP is sniffing about things that happened far more recently than "the 80s"...
I certainly hope they're not doing a new sound mix for a purported "OUT".
More likely taking footage for a demonstrative special feature for Episode VII that will compare/contrast OT and ST techniques/technology.
Grease 2.
Rocks.

The prequels to me are no more faulted than the OT, and I don't really consider things faults, like hyperspace issues, etc. So, I don't really play the "prequels are worse" game.
It's no game, son.
Nicely done. Also would have accepted:

Might just need to update my list tomorrow....

but can we get back on topic, please?
I can't see why they wouldn't release the OUT eventually.
Unfortunately, I fear impossibility is a real...possibility.
Especially since unlike many directors interested in preserving their legacy, Georgie is likely to be uncooperative in any earnest restoration/recreation project.
Disney: "Hey George, can we see your Technicolor print?"
GL: "What for?"
D: "Just for reference: you know color-timing, wipes, etc.
GL: "What, you mean for a resurrection of my awful horrible no-good rough draft of my perfect, sublime, epic masterpiece: Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope Extra-Super-Duper Special Edition???"
D: "Yeah, that."
GL: "Go to Hell! Over my dead body, which will be cremated along with that monstrosity of a rough cut!"
Saw Redux at the Waverly during the week before it closed.
And as far as I'm concerned, if you REMEMBER being WOWED by the stereo effect (I assume you're talking about the carpet bomb cascade scene), that is proof that you were taken out of the movie for a moment so as to appreciate the AWESOMENESS!!!!11!1
In other words, you were distracted.

Well that was something I didn't want to know about you George.
Hey, it's my vision--I don't care if no one likes it.
Video games to which I have masturbated:
Street Fighter 2 [the version with Cammy, in particular]
Super Metroid [100% Completed Ending]
Soul Calibur
Soul Calibur 2
Soul Calibur 4
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Hyrule Warriors [in anticipation of]
Mario Kart 8 [I know, surprising, but that unlockable title screen with Rosalina leaning against the ATV! Hawt!]
...
Now THAT'S how you make a shameful video game confession!
“George”! Haw-Haw. I wish.
That guy’s a genius!
And so is Jar-Jar Abraham!
So basically you are trying to promote your own fan fiction Star Wars movie. Well that seems laudible.
No! It’s not my fan film. It’s real! THE FOURTH AWAKENING IS REAL!!! And it’s got SPACE NAZISSS!!!

Okay, there’s a new Star Wars.
wink,wink
Why don’t you believe me???
DrCrowTStarwars said:
So they made another Star Wars, even though the epic cycle was perfectly complete once Luke and Han destroyed the Death Star (again)?
Yes, cuz it turns out…THERE’S ANOTHER DEATH STAR STILL!!!
Everyone knows there can only be TWO Death Stars. It’s called “The Law of the Sith.”
No, no, no. This one is allowed because it uses…get this:
THE POWER OF “THE SUN”!
Nice attempt to troll us again, but it won’t work.
Okay, fair enough. I don’t know why “The Sun” is in another Galaxy far, far away, but look. It was a long time ago, too, so maybe that’s where the Sun was back in Star Wars Days.

The Fourth Awakening ROCKS!.
There’s no such thing as “new Star Wars”. Georgie-poo has said very clearly that “The Saga ended in 2005”!!
Yeah, I thought that too, but it turns out George sold the rights to Jar-Jar Abraham, the visionary filmmaker who made the first three episodes of Lost–you know, before it jumped the shark!
I only edited the post because at first I said Darth Vader was in it but then I later realized, Wait! That wasn’t Darth Vader! It was his son, Rilo Kiley!
No, really, there’s a new Star Wars!
It’s got your favorite characters Luke, Han and Chewbacca, and some all-new characters too! Like scrappy tomboy Reina, ace tie-fighter pilot Poo Damocles, and double-agent Stormtrooper FN-1138! And then a villain named Rilo Kiley who looks like Darth Vader, sounds like Darth Vader and acts like Darth Vader…but man…IT AIN’T DARTH VADER! (You know cuz he takes his helmet off at one point and you can tell it’s not Little Orphan Anniekins. And also, he has a shrine to the real Darth Vader with a decomposing skull like [spoiler alert!]Jason in Friday the 13th Part 2 to his mom. Gross!) And a new R2 unit with a wacky new mode of motility: spinning around like a wild top! It’s super fun!

This is all, of course, hilarious when combined with your avatar
I'm probably the only one on this board who will be miffed if the otherwise perfect ultra-HD, exquisitely color-timed, glorious release of the OT doesn't have a restored original mono track.
Not because I prefer it in Star Wars--I've never heard it in SW! But because I seriously think stereo is still just a goofy gimmick, and that sound directionality in movies is always distracting, as opposed to immersive.
So I know you guys tend to be singlemindedly focuses on the Original Trilogy ™, but I thought you might be interested to know that there is a NEW STAR WARS MOVIE OUT!!! It’s called “The Fourth Awakening” or somesuch, and it’s actually pretty good! Even better than the Phantasm Meddles.
It’s even got LUKE & HAN IN IT!!!
Generally, it plays on nostalgia with as much singleminded focus as you guys, and does so pretty well.
The only gripe I have is that I think they should have used the real Carrie Fisher instead of CGI. The CGI is okay, but not totally convincing. Just lacks that “lifelike” feel you get from human actors. She probably asked for too much money, but they should have just paid her. I mean, the movie’ll probably end up making a fortune once word gets out!
Yeah but then I'd be jeopardizing my cred as dilettante.
Okay, so I guess the question being posed is "Which of these disembodied snippets of sound do you prefer, with no way of knowing how they actually work when integrated into the film?"

I thought this here site was fer reg'lar curmudgeoning, not yer fancy downloadin' & torrenting 'n such!
You kids!
EDIT to DarkTech: That's a really cool site! "Sourced from the legendary pre-Episode IV bootleg"?!?!?! Neat! But saddening that there's never been a home release!
Ummm...who did what now?
That...is why you fail.
