I like it, good job. I definitely think the shot of the AT-AT firing should be flipped horizontally, I think that would greatly improve the scene.

I think that if you flip the shot then it won’t make sense. It is meant to look like Finn’s right speeder wing gets hit so you would expect an AT AT to be shooting from that angle.

Watching it again I see what you mean. I was thinking that it would better match the direction Finn looks, and the angle the scene is shot at in general. Works either way though.

Info Wanted: Should I put my name on my fan edit?

I’m not really worried about legal trouble, I’m more concerned with how it might impact my future employment as a video editor. A lot of people in the industry are cool with fan edits, but then there are those who are not. I would hate to lose a potential job because of a fan edit I did 2 years ago, or worse yet, get blacklisted in the industry.

So the more I think about it, as much as I would like to use my real name, I think I will just use a fictitious name. I think I will get a website to post my fan edits on. That way I don’t have to worry about YouTube removing the videos.
I was just shopping for domain names and “DarkEdit.com” is available. That might be a good name for a fan edit site. What do you think?

If you’re getting a site to post your edits you should be worried about legal trouble.

REPORT-SW-v2.7

I have watched mkv V2.7 and the theatrical release on dvd and noticed there are some issues with the colour correction on some of the scenes in particular the first scene we see Obi-Wan Kenobi.

His skin tones are very similar to the background (sepia color) and R2-D2 blues is dull/dark.

The landspeeder seems to have lost it slight red tone. I am unsure if it’s most of the scene.

Color will be tweaked in v3.0, it will use Neverar’s Technicolor Recreation as its main source, which looks like this:

Most likely the shot will look like that in Despecialized, if I’m not mistaken.
(btw, the image makes it look a tad more green than it actually is)

Getting Blu-Ray files
Time

You can use MakeMKV to rip Blu-rays, that’s the easiest way I know. You’ll need a Blu-ray drive of course. Resolve won’t support MKV, so you can use Handbrake to make MP4s or something, that’s what I did for Resolve. Or find another program to rip straight to a supported format. Good luck. (this thread is probably better suited for How-To’s and Technical Discussions btw)

Edit: ChainsawAsh’s method is vastly superior. I think Resolve doesn’t support AVI files though, so keep that in mind. I’d definitely recommend demuxing the audio into separate tracks either way because Resolve isn’t great with importing multi-channel audio in some cases.
