layout/look suggestion
Time

Well, kinda a big suggestion, borderline complete site rewrite

But the wiki as it is now is kinda bonky, as I think alot of users might think this

Perhaps it might be possible to a more user friendly wiki format, such as the MediaWiki format that AVI Synth and Wikipedia uses and that most everyone is familiar with

I know this is asking like alot, but any thoughts of switching the formats? I would think this would attract more attention to the wiki if it was more user friendly

Rad - Helltrack Edition (Released)
Time

Final encode is done

This will almost max out the DVD with a few MBs left over

I should have the authoring done pretty quickly, after that I will double check everything and see if anything needs to be fixed, and I will watch the entire movie on my 1080P upconvert to check for any problems

After which the people involved and the people I contacted will all get copies and then it will be available to everyone

Rad - Helltrack Edition

Original Rad thread

TrailerRad (1986) Theatrical Trailer

IT’S TIME TO BREAK THE ICE!
Been a long time in the making, but it has finally arrived and Im sure it wont disappoint.

So heres a quick Q and A that may answer some initial questions.

So whats different between this DVD and the others floating around?

In short, EVERYTHING.
This DVD contains and represents what a retail DVD of this film should look/be like when/if it does get released.

Well, can you be specific as to what the differences are?

Sure.
This DVD differs from previous DVDs by incorporating the following (but not limited to).

DVD Structure:

  • Scene selection invisible hidden buttons to scroll with remote to next page of chapters without having to highlight the chapter number page manually.
  • Resume feature was incorporated when feature is stopped, so you can go back to the previously viewed point.
  • All VM DVD commands were written in by hand, and not automatically by muxing software (abstraction layer), so no unnecessary commands are present.

DVD Menu:

  • From scratch disclaimer message.
  • Included movie rating screen (e.g. “This film has been rated PG”).
  • Brand new menu design with main menu soundtrack, also includes scene selection.

DVD Video:

  • New tri-star trailer without logos has been written into script for main feature.
  • New delogo process implemented, whole feature delogo’d except for a 5 second scene.
  • PG end screen written into script at end of main feature.
  • Proper crop & IVTC.
  • CCE SP3 used, replacing the one-click HDTV2DVD software used on previous users attempts.

DVD Audio:

  • Direct stream copy of audio for main feature, audio for tri-star opening and PG ending transcoded and attached to match feature (just simple AC3 2.0  -> AC3 5.1, seeing as this just the opening trailer and the end PG message, which was just a silent track, all I did was make a fake 5.1 track to match the main feature track).

DVD Extras:

  • Complete rebuild of theatrical trailer, frame by frame, VHS was used as reference but <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>NO</span> part of the video from the VHS was used in final product, audio from VHS was used.
  • JACKET_P folder images created.
  • Updated DVD cover art.
  • Same DVD disc art.
  • Updated NFO.

Delogo’d? So you mean there is a huge blur on the screen?

Im not going to downplay this, once there is a logo on screen, it is impossible to get rid of it 100%. With that being said I think some of you will be quite pleased with how it the final product turned out.

But heres some tips to help you viewing experience and to minimize the logo on you end (yes theres only so much I can do, you have to do some stuff too).

Have your TV calibrated, and/or run a DVE (or similar) disc beforehand. When a TVs settings are right, the logo should be <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>barely</span> noticeable, almost gone entirely. If you have your contrast/brightness/backlight cranked to max, the delogo will become more obvious and you will have problems…so you should adjust accordingly.

The delogo only seems to have real problems on one specific type of scene. When the camera pans real fast to the left or right with close fast moving objects moving in front if it. The logo will be noticeable because of the MPEG artifacts on the source. Slight blocking will occur for a brief moment around the logo, nothing can be done about this, its on the source thus its on here.

**What were the tools/applications you used making this DVD?
**
Well, its hard to list step for step everything thats been done but heres a general breakdown.

DVD Video:

  • MPEG2CUT2
  • DGIndex
  • AVI Synth inc. filters
  • AvsP
  • CCE SP3 1.0.3 w/ CCX engine

DVD Audio:

  • Goldwave
  • BeSweet
  • Command Line

DVD Menu:

  • DVD Lab Pro
  • MS Paint
  • Adobe PS

DVD Structure

  • PGC Edit

**Where can I find the specifics about your DVD?
**
Well, there is 3 places you can check

  1. The NFO in the DVD_ROM folder
  2. OT’s Fanedit Wiki
  3. This Thread

**
Wow, sounds totally RAD, where can I get it?**

IDK where can you get it?

Asshole

😛

Gotta find it for yourself.
Ive contacted people already about this, there are already a few people who are going to get it first so that they can put it on usenet/torrents/RS/MU whatever.

**OK, sounds like it should be reasonably easy to find, is there anything I can do for you in return? or anything I can give you in return?

**There is only two things I would like in return from you kind people.

  1. Please keep all the file names/folders/files themselves in the original distributed format if you decide to post them somewhere.

  2. Please give proper credit to the contributors of this project, without their hard work and contributions, this release would not be possible.

As for anything else, we (the contributors) have not and will not accept anything in return for this project (monetary or otherwise)

Mel Gibson is nuts

TV's Frink said:

Regardless, I can't believe people are defending Mel Gibson.

I honestly could care less about Mel Gibson. He really doesnt matter to me and dont care about his beliefs or what he says.

All I know is that if youre going to pick this example, lets not be all "hands across America" for this Gold Digger, which she most clearly is.

People like her is whom I loathe.

Oksana Grigorieva born 1970 in Russia

Married in 1989 to commoner
Married again in 1992 to famous artist
Married again in 1997 to Tim Dalton (James Bond) and had kid then divorced (for that child support)

Then came Gibson, had child, for that money.....then pissed him off, and tried to blackmail him for 10 million dollars with doctored tapes to keep quiet

I think with her history and with what shed tried to do, I would be yelling exactly like him

Rad (1986) (Released)
Time

So right now Im about 1 week overdue on my 3 week deadline, but of course unforeseen problems did occur, and while they have been resolved, in resolving them I had to trash the previous encodes and start to make new ones

But after these new encodes are finished, this should come together pretty quick since I have most everything else done and written down

Once I get all the encodes done and the samples sent out, you should see a massive update on everything

Info: OT Reel lengths...
Time

FWIW

I know from personal experience that film prints dont come in standard length size when they hit the theatres

Negatives might be different

But Ive seen some reels bigger than others straight from the studio, seen movies come in anywhere from 5 to 10+ reels, and depending on their print source.....matching up one print to another to exact frame numbers can be quite difficult given that the projectionist often if not always makes splices that cut off different number of frames on each reel, and depending on their setup, splices them together......not always in a seamless fashion

By the time a theatre is done with the print, since most of them get treated like crap and get subjected to things happening like the film sliding on the side of a roller causing a scratch or hitting the grate in the projector causing a almost constant scratch or my favorite.....a brain wrap where cutting and splicing the print is done, often a few frames out

So hopefully the studios have an unused print source instead of relying on returns from theatres

Working with DVD Storylines (seamless branching) - TEST FILE
Time

none said:

All the options Chewtobacca mentioned are possible.  But for now this thread is for researching issues related to seamless branching/storylining

From what I have read about seamless branching, is just like what chewie said, its very hard to pull off with the player actually liking the end result. The people I have talked to about it said that they have done it thru scenetist (or whatever its called) but the actual execution of it makes players studder. I believe it has to do with how the video is muxed and stored on the DVD, with the branched part not being in the same location of the media on the disc and instead being at the end of the disc or something of that sort

I dont know how the studios do it to where its flawless, but I know that Ive seen a few of them retail seamless branching DVDs not be so flawless in execution as well

Im working on it right now

What I believe to be the final encode is finished and I am just doing a mux of the video tracks and the audio tracks, I will then check it out and see if I am overall satisfied with the results. Im pretty sure I got the sizing right, I just have to check everything

I went back thru the trailer in the meantime and made a couple corrections in frame #'s and will encode another trailer. The total number of frames is exactly what it should be but it seems sometimes while splicing these scenes together a stray frame gets into a scene every now and then, but I went back thru it and there was only 4, I re-editied the script and Im about to encode another trailer and see if that one is 100% frame to frame from the source I have

After I check everything, then I will author it.....might be a day or two, then send out samples for others to check to make sure I didnt miss anything, and so on and so forth

Edit: Went thru trailer again after encode, its a perfect 1:1 copy, same exact frame numbers, I went thru it again and made sure each scene has the same number of frames and that they were cut right, its perfect....60MBs

Last movie encode is at 4405MBs
That leaves 16MBs for the menu and artwork, Im going to be cutting it close but I think Im going to hit it right on.....and I think, after I get verification, this should be ready relatively soon

Idea &amp; Info: 'Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown' and 'Race For Your Life Charlie Brown' - airing on HD channels throughout June and July... how bout a DVD preservation?
Time

Well, tried to cap it but like I knew.... it was 5c encrypted so no dice

Ass for the content, looked decent, it was 4x3 content but in HD not SD, so probably 16x9 pillarbox, I took a quick screen with my camera so you could see, not the best but whatever

This really didnt peak my interests so I really didnt give it a look until now but I thought I would chime in

The whole capping this thing via firewire is moot for one reason

HDNet and HDNet movies (or whatever its called) is 5C encrypted at all times via the broadcasting network and not the cable distributor

So it doesnt matter if you have Comcast or ATT or FioS or Cox or whatever

I believe its been like that on HDNet for a few years now

Edit: Ill attempt to cap Race for your life CB on Wednesday....but I know it will be encrypted

Ive completed a trial encode, just a simple one 3 pass CCE at 6000kbps to see how the entire movie looks and how the size is going to be

So far everything looks good, i had to make a few adjustments on the script, nothing big just some things I noticed when I blew the image up

Now I just need to do the final encode, mux items together, author it, double check it, and pack it

Hopefully the final encode will only have to be done once to get the right size

Edit (6/30/10): I did another encode, 2pass at 6100, just to check size and see if there was any problems with any corrections I made with the script....the final encode will be started tonight or tomorrow, release date is looking like sometime between the July 5th week
