Josh and S.A.M. (1993) Preservation (Completed - then started over - * unfinished *)
Time

The DVD is complete, I scanned thru it and saw some things

The SOURCE at one part I notice has a different telecine pattern than the rest of the movie, instead of following a 2:3:2:3 pattern, the part follows a 2:2:2:2 pattern, this happens for around 30 seconds and then corrects itself. This is not a problem with the DVD, its a problem with the source. I BELIEVE this is because I think the HDTV transmission comes from the laserdisc and not from a print master, although Im not sure of this, but the fact its a 4x3 HDTV transmission makes me think its from the LD.

Also PM sent

This movie was suppose to be a BLOCKBUSTER for 1993, instead it became a huge flop…the budget was 18 million and only returned something like 700 thousand. Its relatively unknown but the people who do know about it have been wanting a DVD for a while. Both the VHS and LD of this movie are in fullscreen and to my surprise the HDTV transmission was also in fullscreen, which tells me that there isnt a print master and/or it was taken from the LD.

The HDTV came in @ 1080i but it had black borders on the sides, thus reducing the resolution after crop to 1446x1080. I should have some screen comparisons up in a little while comparing the source to the output of the DVD, but all in all the DVD looks pretty good for a fullscreen HDTV to DVD transfer, I think it definitily looks better than some LD cap pics I have seen anyway.

Anyone here interested alittle?

Separation of fourm threads
Time

This has probably been brought up before...

But I think the forums topics threads should be broken up alittle bit more than they already are, what I mean byt that is that fan edits and preservations should have their own forum threads.

I think that this would make things cleaner and easier to find things, instead of grouping things like Indiana Jones fan edits together with movies that arent being edited but just preserved

Does anyone think this would be better?

Request: Rad (1986) HDTV 1080i original TS file
Time

Hey guys,

Im looking for the original MPEG2-TS 1080i file for Rad.

I know there is a DVD of this out but I would like to get the original 1080i file to create a BD disc from it

If someone would be so kind as to either send it to me via mail or over the net, I would be willing to send blanks and postage.

Or if someone could tell me where I could find this it would be helpful as well, just PM me

Thanks

I like doing it my way where I get max quality

That is probably a good idea, because WE,those of us that have done these projects before, probably can't get "max" quality.

I didnt mean any disrespect that, Im just saying that I would like the TS for my own tinkering, I think my Kidco DVD came out pretty good.....btw did you get my PM? Do you by chance get Starz? if you like I still have the TS to Kidco if youre interested, let me know

Official 'Kidco' (1984) Preservation (Released)
Time

Hi all, LONG TIME lurker, first time poster since I have something to contribute to the efforts, Ive read the rules but if anything is out of line with them let me know and Ill make the necessary edits

I bring to you a nice 80s classic, one that many people dont remember. This has never been put on DVD, and I honestly dont see it going to DVD any time soon. I took quite a good amount of time making this preservation. This was not done with some one click encoding software like HDTV2DVD, this was done with Procoder 3. For those who arent familiar with Procoder this is arguably one of the best MPEG2 encoders out there, better than CCE (this is the opinion of some).

The movie is made to fit on a DVD5 and NO DVD9 will be made, since it is not necessary, the DVD5 is absolutely beautiful. The reason why no DVD9 will be made is because of the technique used while making the DVD. I used a 2 pass VBR bitrate scheme done in MASTERING QUALITY where video bitrates hit as high as 7 MB/s and averaged at 5.7 MB/s which is plenty of quality.

(you ask…how is Procoder better when CCE does 6-8 passes? The answer is simple, while in mastering quality mode, Procoder literally crawls analyzing the video…were talking x.1 realtime max, while CCE does its passes well over this rate…needless to say it takes a great bit of time to do one movie at this quality level)

Menus were made, but they are just stills with chapter points and a chapter menus. I could have made the menu animated but with the lack of info on the soundtrack and the lack of the files for the soundtrack, I decided stills was the best option. A normal THX intro was added to the beginning before the movie starts, when I say normal I dont mean the T2 THX  intro or any of the Shrek ones or goofy ones, I mean the normal one. The audio track was stream copied, which is AC3 2.0 @ 384kbs

Here some screens
