Extreme LaserDisc Capture
Episode II: A New Hope
Extreme LaserDisc Capture
Episode II: A New Hope
Its a flaw with all the DVDs so if you havent noticed this, go back and take a look, they are there
But my original question in the first post still remains...
No Im not talking about the typical black bars, here are some sample pics, the bars that appear are above the lower black bar and below the upper black bar....and if you take into account those bars (which look translucent)
the film AR would be somewhere around 2.35 I bet (35mm) instead of 2.18 (70mm)
So has anyone found any information on the original question?
@Aleksbmw
You should probably make your own thread (like you stated) if you are going to go about this feat
Posting in here about an awesome laserdisc transfer is only going to result in two things
1. People not taking you seriously due to prior occurrences
2. A curse for you to start something wonderful and then not finish it
Many of us still feel the pain of X0 and still want to believe the day that something significant will come of it though

Just a FYI I was watching the DVD not the HDDVD but I would be interested if it has the same flaws as the DVD (I bet it does)
I didnt listen to the commentary track for the reason it was the guy who wrote the book but not worked on the film or did the transfer, but maybe i should?
If you can find out any info or ask anyone about it, Id loved to know the reason for these bars, because I really dont think it was the print, I think it was the transfer
Thanks
Yes updating the BD player will probably help, my brother has the 300 series and I updated his, it states right on Sonys website what each update does so you can check for yourself, but yes always update the player, tho I did his with burning the update on CD not over LAN, took about 10-15 minutes to update
Im sure this has been covered before, if not here probably on another forum
Anyway, so I was watching this and and the documentary and whatnot and they state that this was taken from the last surviving workprint of this movie, which is debatable Im sure and Im pretty sure the print was a 70mm print but I cant remember if that was stated or not.....they also state that since it was the last print that the quality was depreciated but still in acceptable limits.
Ok, so I start to watch it and I got the feel that the quality is spot on VERY good but the thing that everyone talks about are these bars on the screen which run horizontal not vertical.
To me....this is CLEARLY not a problem with the print but instead with the way it was transfered. I also think it has something to do with it being a 70mm print source, because the films AR is around 2.18 but when these horizontal bars are taken into account it appears the AR would have been around 2.35, which would have been the AR of the 35mm print.
So what Im getting at is that they transferred this print like a 35mm and then corrected for this after the fact and thus the bars appear. Because I dont see any other way these bars can appear throughout the actual 70mm print, if anything it would have been vertical.
Does anyone know anything or heard anything about this?
Just so everyone knows the FEDS audio is AC3 384 2.0 and the original mix was Dolby
I watched this for a while, before I was even a member. I dont know his site but his screens looked real good and it is disappointing (which is what most of the promising projects seem to do) to see this going nowhere
If anyone knows anything or has any updates, let us know
I dont think anyone will be grabbing this, the seller is capitializing on the media attention riht now and I expect this thing to fetch a nice penny
Im buping this because this is the next one I will be working on and re-doing to improve menus and other stuff as well
A number of programs used in conjuction
VOB Blanker (get rid of extras and warnings)
DVD Shrink (ONLY used to get rid of extra audio tracks and see approx how much compression you will need, leave video untouched)
PGC Edit (button removal and menu re-authoring)
DVD Rebuilder w/ CCE (3 click is the only way, with bitrate redistributed)
Heres what the covers look like, these are just examples, the full res covers will available from the DVD
The IMG/ISO is made and I have begun to make it ready
DVD FINISHED
Encoding is finished, menus are done, English HoH subtitles included (remote controlled), NFO created, and cover art is done
You can check out all info in the link above

Oh... and no rude people talking, or cell phones going off.
You forgot one thing.....NO F**KING BABIES! OR LITTLE KIDS ALLOWED
Cell phones I can half way deal with, babies and kids are just a movie ruiner

I know they werent made in the 70s but he stated Rocky as Best Sports Film, which it is DEFINITLEY not in my opinion, and I knew someone was gonna say....ehh not in the 70s...thats why I wrote Best Sports Film category

Superman IV
All the Police Academy sequels

Remember people this is all a matter of opinion. I am sure their are those who will List The Temple of Doom or Return of the Jedi as the worst films. I know some people would list return to oz by walter murch because it was an abomination to the judy garland fiim.
ST5 has a bad rap for no reason
GB2 wasnt that bad
BTTF2 was awesome, 3 was a joke but that was released in 1990 :p
Over the Top was awesome
No Holds Barred was so bad it made the film good
Jaws 2 was not in the 80s :p
Any rocky movie after 2? Rocky 4 was probably the best Rocky movie of them all!
Total Recall was not 80s :p
PA7 was not 80s :p
I love the 80s and who ever mentioned Krull as a bad movie obviously didnt understand the movie, that movie is CLASSIC
bkev said:Hi everyone,
my DELL is once again giving me problems. I attempt to use imgbrn to make a DL disc, but it says "medium not present" when the disc is in the drive. I know for a fact my computer DOES support that, as I've made one before. Using Memorex, and it's +R. Does anyone have any suggestions?
It's worth noting that the computer will currently detect single layers blank DVDs.
OK, it has nothing to do with it being a Dell or not, Dell doesnt make the Optical Drive, they outsource for that, probably a Phillips or Lite-on or Samsung.
Now what type of media are you using? DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL? and does your burner support that media, some burners wont support one but will the other, typically wont support DVD-R DL
OK, you check the media, its compatible with your drive, looked up your actual drive SN# and got the latest firmware and installed it, and checked the connections on your drive in the case and it still doesnt recognize in IMGBurn? Have you tried a different software package? Perhaps Nero 6.6, which IMO is better than any newer version thats out.
I have had problems with RWs in IMGBurn myself, I would do a complete format on the RW and then try to burn with IMGBurn and nada, after the leadin it would error out, then Id try with Nero and it worked perfectly...
If you have ruled out all of the above, then Id go with Bad Media, and yes Verbaims do have bad batches

I remember this movie, liked the cheese that came with it…it has only been released on VHS and LD, both fullscreen and I havent seen it play on TV in a LONG while
I know I would like preservation of this movie but the VHS is less than stellar to transfer and IMO not worth it. Would anyone happen to have the LD or even perhaps a TV capture of the movie?
Is there any interest in preserving this movie? Id love for you guys to chime in and maybe we can get something rolling…
EDIT: Movie was released on DVD thru WWE, great transfer and audio, might be slight differences in the dvd to theater version but this project is now considered dead with the release of said DVD
Dude, thats a really good cover, better than what I expected or have!
