Rad (1986) (Released)
Time

I wa just doing a little internet surfing and saw that "Bill Allen" has revamped his website, I put his name in quotes because who knows if it is actually him.
http://www.billallenrad.com/
Whats funny about it is he uses the INHD2 HD capture as a video clip on his main page LOL, this from the same guy who supposedly told us he had talks about an official DVD at the beginning of 2008 and a sequel in 2009 in the podcast link below.
http://natsukashi.wordpress.com/2008/12/30/episode-xxxv-rad-with-guest-bill-allen-cru-jones/

Now I would love all this to be true but Im not that gullible, it doesnt take 18 months to make a barebones DVD with all the proper equipment, and if he had inside sources saying it was in the works why is he using the INHD2 capture?
Lets not forget no mention of Rad 2 on IMDB.

If it is really him and hes getting bad information, thats fine.....but I seriously think its an imposter and if so some people are getting slightly ridiculous

I hope to be proved wrong and get a better version than my DVD, what would be REAL funny is if they released an official DVD that was the same D-VHS source as the INHD2 TS just without the logo, and it wouldnt be that hard to figure out if it was the same source (left edge shows soundtrack and frame jumps during the bike boogie as well as other things)

Old (The Starkiller) version appears to have been IVTCed to 23.976fps, however the decimation is wrong which leads to dupe frames and jerky motion.

Moth, you sure it runs at 23.9? Cause gspot reports it at 29.9 with the progressive fag lit, while the new version gspot reports 23.9 with the interlaced flag lit (which is what most movie VOBs report)

I know gspot isnt fail proof but the old version always just looked funny to me ( it was done with HDTV2DVD, I have no doubts about that)

Heres a sample guys

Old Rad intro

New Rad intro
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UJMFJK29

Let me know what you think cause like I said, all menu buttons work and fits on a DVD5, with artwork and such in a DVD-ROM folder DVD size comes to around 4476, so its pretty much using around the max amount of space available
Only thing I can find wrong is the pictures in the chapter points dont match up to where they point, but thats bearable (I might look into fixing it but its seriously so petty I dont know how much I care about it)

Edit: OK I fixed the chapter points, the original DVD didnt even point to the pictures showing on the screen, but I went thru and had them all point to the pic on the chapter screen except the first pic, cause that has to be chapter 1 and it points to the beginning of the tristar trailer and not the Rad scene

Hey guys,

Ill post some sample vob clips from both alittle later
The DVD size is actually 4471 MBs, which leaves room for DVD-ROM folder for a few DVD cover arts Ive been working on and a DVD disc art

Right now like I said tho, the DVD is done, menu works as it should, all buttons work, and Im thinking of keeping it that way but may toy with tacking on the trailer as a easter egg, Im gonna fiddle with it and see if I can do something decent with it, but right now its pretty much perfect

OK, well guys the DVD is done....I just used the animated menus from the old DVD and imported the new movie

4475 MBs
10 pass CCE, 6210 VBR
New tristar trialer, logo removed decently, correct IVTC

All buttons and chapter points work on the menus imported

I might consider using the same menu and making an easter egg to the Rad trailer but right now the movie along with the menu is pretty perfect

So i used to like Star Trek V when i was younger and now i find it almost unwatchable it is so bad.
Time

I know Im coming off as a fanboy for V, but let me stress that actually Im not
I think out of the original 6, there are two movies that are CLEARLY (to me anyway) in a class of their own....which is VI and II
These are by far the best of the pack, and when it comes to the other four the debate begins with me because while those two are on a different level the other four are almost on the same level, thus why I dont get when people say IV is the greatest original ST movie, and people do say that....makes me roll my eyes
V doesnt even come close to VI and II, none of the others do....and when I look at the other four its HARD for me to actually rank them cause they all have their own problems and their own love/hate moments.
Its a hard choice after the first two but this is how I see it
VI TUC
II TWoK
(noticeable gap)
V TFF (the one movie thats a mixed bag)
IV TVH (for the fun factor, storyline was shit)
III TSFS (Lloyd saved this movie or else it would be last)
TMP (I hate to have to do it but its just HARD to actually say "hey I think Im gonna watch TMP tonight" cause I know after hour one Im gonna be bored out of my mind since it just drags on)

But like you said, its all opinion

Final list:

- The Undiscovered Country
- The Wrath of Khan
- The Final Frontier
- The Voyage Home
- The Motion Picture
- The Search for Spock

Oh, and one last thing - how the hell did those whales breathe once they were beamed into the Klingon ship?

Now that looks a list of someone who actually watched the movies and not someone who just follows the sheep and says "all the even movies and then all the odds" with TFF being the worst, cause it fucking wasnt even close
....and you summed up 4 perfectly, IT WASNT GREAT so people need to get off the notion that it was

Alright, I just finished watching The Voyage Home.  My thoughts:

It's not nearly as bad as I remember, but not great.

So here's the short version of my The Search for Spock review:

It sucked.

Updated list:

- The Undiscovered Country
- The Wrath of Khan
- The Final Frontier
- The Motion Picture
- The Search for Spock

Now I guess I need to watch The Voyage Home again so my list will be complete.

Finally SOMEONE is getting what I was saying

I actually thought this film (final frontier) wasnt half bad

I dont understand how people could think this film was so horrible after going to see the previous "save the whales" movie,.....after all, how hard would it be to believe that there is a god after seeing an alien cube come to earth just to destroy it unless it talks to some fish and then it talks to the fish for 5 seconds and then everything is ok and it leaves. I mean really? What could be said in that 5 seconds, was it a hi and bye routine? You figure after waiting that long to talk to this fish a little more conversation would be going on.

I think 4 is INCREDIBLY! over-rated

Favorite movie with the OS crew, VI had alot of substance and something about it just stuck with me, thought it was done very well, and I soley credit Meyer for this, since II was my second fav of the OS crew, and I think Nimoy is over-rated as a director, because without Lloyd in the III, that movie would have blown donkey D

Reasons for facepalming, as mentioned before....I dont see how someone could think that the rediculous Voyage Home could be better than Final Frontier, fucking whales save the world? what is this shit? (read my previous posts), and the only reason why I give Search for Spock the nudge over FF is because of Lloyd, other than him the movie is a complete bore

I agree tho, the Meyer movies are the best

Next up are The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home, which I remember so very little of that I didn't feel right in putting either one on the list with the other four.

So far I concur with your list, but if you place BOTH TSoS and TVH above TFF......I will facepalm, read previous posts for my thoughts of both

I guess I should have put in my 2 cents to which I think is best...

Ill start off by saying the transition from the OS crew to the TNG crew was done extremely well and that I have seen the "new/pseudo" ST or which I refer to as "Bandwagon Trek", and the cast was.......ridiculous

Favorite movie with the TNG crew, I really liked Generations and I dont care how many people hated it, maybe cause we had both Kirk and Picard idk, but it was a good movie to me. First Contact would be second on my list, and then it was all pretty much downhill from there.

This new crew does nothing for me cause its NOT a ST movie, its an action movie with a Star Trekesk theme....and now theyre gonna be big names, not want to get type casted and only do one or two more movies and then ST will lay dormant until the next reboot, in 25 years

Thanks guys

That trailer WASNT final, since I put it up Ive made some changes, mostly just sync'ing up some parts that I saw were alittle off (non talk parts). Not a drastic difference but just getting it right

I reused the VHS source of the end of the trailer, Im sure you noticed the drop in quality. I dont have the patience or skills to try to re-create it from scratch

Also Moth the HQ button should be on the lower right corner of the youtube player

I hoped you guys liked it, maybe alittle more tweaking to it but as you can see its pretty good as is

Hopefully, Ill have all the stuff I need for the menus soon and I can finally throw it all together and be done with it

I know that I said with this update I was give some samples/screens but I have held off on the final encode until Ive decide what to do about extas and menus(the final script is done, as in Im not touching it anymore) deciding whether to reuse the old ones or start from scratch. But heres a treat for you guys, something I have been working on.....took quite a bit of time to get everything right and sync'd up and audio cleaned up.... let me know what you think

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTWRSaHXJGs
(dont forget to press the HQ button!)

Ive been working on the existing cover art, right now I have two designs going, but theyre not completely done yet but the backs will certainly be better than the original

Did my last full encode before my final encode.
Everything for the movie part is for all purposes finished, maybe tweak 1 thing but it not a big deal
Did a 2 pass CCE VBR @ 6225 avg bitrate, final size is 4469MBs leaving roughly 11MBs for menus
The TriStar trailer has been added on and the sound is all synced up for everything.
The film jumps during the bike boogie scene have been significantly reduced but not completely removed.
There is a small flicker in the 2 in the delogo of INHD2, this is the one thing Im still looking into.
I matched the VOBs with the old menus from Starkillers DVD and everything worked, those menus are roughly 6MBs big.

So unless I decide to do new menus (which is being discussed), everything now should be done in a minimal amount of time. Next *update* Ill post some screens of the finished product (but probably not menus if its decided to make new ones)

Still trying the best method to figure out for these patterns.
I found an acceptable way that handles the patterns better than the previous way.
I also did a 1 pass VBR encode at a Q of 1 (for those who were wondering) with the min set at 3k and max at 9k and the size was 5.3GBs
So Im just doing a multi pass VBR @ DVD5 level

Right now all signs are looking good to having this done real soon, Im trying some other techniques for the pattern and by the end of those tests I will be set to do the final encode (possible tweaking to the logo removal in the process), mux the audio (which syncs up fine), and then focus on the menu (which I will probably import from the other DVD unless someone wants to help out with their PS skills)

Send me a PM if youre interested in helping with the menus
