Yes, it too is located within the Google Drive folder linked to on the ‘red… it’ site. It’s a .wav file, as pure of an output as I can provide.

Thank you so much Hal!

Collipso, would you be so kind and help me out with the audio track muxing? Do I need to convert the .wav to some other extension (PCM?) you talked about earlier?

Sorry mate I’m as clueless as you are! Hahah

SW/Empire
TLJ
TFA/ROTJ

So having just watched Star Wars for the first time in more than a year, I have to retool this:

SW
Empire
TLJ
TFA/ROTJ

Empire might be a more complex and technically perfect movie, but no ten minutes of cinema puts a wider smile on my face than every moment of Star Wars after Ben tells Luke to “use the Force” and turn off his computer. Makes me feel like I’m a kid again. That’s worth five movies as good as The Empire Strikes Back.

Can’t argue with that.

What is the “Kurtz version?

Gary Kurtz, co-producer of Star Wars and TESB, wanted ROTJ to end on a bittersweet, poignant tone. Were Lucas not to have intervened and changed the story to be more fun and have a happy ending, among other things Han Solo would have died a sacrificial death for his friends (and completed his character arc from a selfish scoundrel to a loyal hero), there would have been no second Death Star, and also no Ewok Celebration (or “teddy bear picnic” as Harrison Ford put it).

In the novelization Han’s arc is much more satisfactory, mostly because of the sandstorm scene.

If, as has been suggested, Poe believed that the attempted attack on the gun was going to fail and he called off the attack for that reason, that looks less like a character arc for Poe than a practical decision, just as he made in successfully attacking the Dreadnought.

If Poe had not destroyed the dreadnought, would its guns have been successfully used to destroy the rebel ships during the later pursuit, or alternatively the Crait base?

Save who you love don’t fight what you hate.

I watched TLJ again tonight, and my wife and I had a funny moment during the film.

To give some backstory to this moment, my wife and I have watched the recent My Little Pony:FiM cartoons with our daughter several times. During one of the Halloween episodes, there is a character in the episode wearing a silly clown costume who attempts to talk to the little kids in a scary and spooky way, but another character turns and says “ugh. The rainbow wig just kills it for me.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L021arfz-CA&t=25s

I had previously had a discussion with my wife about how I didn’t really like the Holdo character because her appearance made me think she would have looked more at home in The Hunger Games rather than in Star Wars. Well, during the film this time, after Holdo first appeared on screen, my wife turns to me and says “The purple hair just kills it for me.”

I laughed. I will always remember her saying that whenever I see Holdo in the film from now on.

Haha that’s so nice! Warms my heart to see pure joy and happiness. 😃

Star Wars. But Harry Potter does share some interesting similarities. And to be brutally honest I wish Lucas had followed Rowling’s example and trusted the audience to grow with the series. I’m amazed at the depth, nuance, and darkness in the Deathly Hallows - especially when compared to the wide-eyed innocence of Philosopher’s Stone. JK clearly trusted her audience to mature and take it all on board as things got progressively heavier. I wish George had taken the same route with ROTJ.

Well, RotJ is visually and graphically darker than Empire. If not for the slapstick and if better executed the whole concept of Luke getting closer and closer to turning to the dark side, it could’ve been a pretty dark movie.

Saw it in 70mm IMAX tonight. When I heard the San Jose theater had undergone renovations I feared it might have gone digital. The water damage on the massive domed screen is finally gone! Some scenes seemed much darker than when I saw it digitally last month. Very strange. And no, I don’t think the projector had a bad bulb. 😉

I had a good chuckle at a bit of fuzz on the film that looked like some strange creature on the ocean horizon in one scene. You don’t get that with digital!

Nice to see the gate weave in the closing credits.

It didn’t occur to me until the second viewing that Kylo taking out the hangar bay is very similar to Anakin destroying the Trade Federation ship in TPM.

Didn’t notice the first time that a child’s voice says Rey’s name in the Dark Side cave. No idea what it could mean.

Mark Hamill is listed as playing another character in the credits. Was it just a voice or did he play an alien or something?

I’ll admit I laughed when Kylo destroyed the hangar because when he spins the camera spins too and of course I couldn’t stop thinking about how that’s a good trick.

Yeah, the biggest problem with this film is lack of breathing room.

I call this MBHD - modern blockbuster hyperactive disorder. Movies that don’t give the audience a break to let them digest the non-stop action or emotion that is being thrown at them. It’s honestly my biggest issue with TLJ.

TFA is almost worse in that regard.

I’d have Leia die in the bridge explosion and remove her from the rest of the film. I’d remove Yoda. I’d have Luke burn the tree. Sensing Leia’s death would prompt Luke to confront Ren.

I like the idea, but that way you’d lose the beautiful shot of the Crait big ass door closing behind her, or her scene with Luke. And have 2 older characters killed in the same movie could be a bit overkill, but oh well.

Let’s say I have the SE DVDs, but not the Blu-Ray. Am I still eligible to watch Harmy’s DE? It’s an official release, but not the source.

Nope.

So those who have the Blu-Ray, but not the DVDs, shouldn’t be watching Adywan’s? I think that’s a bit dumb. I think 2004/2011 should count as the “same”, sort of. I own both versions anyway, so I’m good, but still.

Nope.

If they release a 4K version this year, will we all need to buy that in order to continue to have the DEs?

If the DE uses the 4K as the source, I guess yes.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

So I watched the first part and 5 minutes of the second part of this “The Lost Jedi”, and while I think some of his ideas would be interesting, some stuff just seems way too stupid to me, such as Poe saying how hot Leia looked in her RotJ bikini or R2 and Chewie telling Rey about stuff from the Clone War.
All in all there is some interesting stuff, but it’s pretty cringy.
There’s this one quote he says though: it’s not all about training to be a Jedi, it’s also about ones own journey to learn to become a Jedi.
To me Rey fails both? More so the first one than the latter though.

I think the original Iron Man is still the best thing the MCU has ever put out. It feels like a real movie made by a few talented people, not some large, calculated, corporate undertaking.

I agree. Iron Man and The Winter Soldiers are definitely my favorites, alongside the first and second Guardians of the Galaxy, and the only ones that I rewatch from time to time. Maybe The Avengers too, but not so much.

Was Ragnarok any good? I ended up not watching that one theatrically, unfortunately. And does anyone know when will the bluray come out?

It was good as an action comedy, but I wasn’t a fan of the complete and utter tonal shift from the first two films.

Thanks for the info!
