The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **
Time

so I decided to read some books that I had not read in a long time the other day, and I came across a book series that I used to love a couple of years ago. The book series is 12 books long I think, and while there’s usually a small time gap in between books 1-11, there’s a 20 or 30 year jump from 11 to 12.

the final page of the final chapter of book 11 is the protagonist getting married to the love of his life after winning th war. you grow to love the protagonist throughout the 11 books, so it’s really rewarding when he basically wins after so much struggle and so many losses.

jump to the first page of the first chapter of book 12. 20 years have passed, and the first thing we’re told is that the protagonist, will, is now old, insane and depressed, because his wife was killed. in this book, he’s no longer the protagonist, we have a new younger female protagonist that seeks him for guidance and to try and make him see that he’s wrong. it does sound a lot like tfa/tlj, huh? it surprises me i hadn’t noticed the similarities before.

anyway, the problem for me is that i still see myself as the older protagonist, in this case Will, or for the ST, Luke. he’s the one i’m attached to the most and care about the most and have related until that point to the most. so it doesn’t feel good to read or watch that you (or the guy you wanted to be, or the guy you used to see yourslef as, etc.) are basically depressed, wrong, and insane.

maybe you enjoy that sort of story. good for you. i don’t. and that’s why i don’t like Luke here.

i never finished book 12, by the way - i stopped halfway through, because it was being really painful and sad to see one of my all time favorite characters in such a sad condition.

ps: i do enjoy TLJ Luke because of hamill though - he actually sells it for me. superb performance.

why would you guys not listen to the beatles?? every single album from rubber soul to the end could very well be considered the greatest ever.

Hard disagree when it comes to The White Album, Let it Be, and Yellow Submarine. And I’m not the biggest Sgt. Pepper fan, but it’s objectively a great album, so…

well they barely considered yellow submarine an album like the rest, and let it be was never properly finished. the white album is close to perfect imo. sgt peppers too.

If you think about it, Obi-Wan and Yoda also gave themselves over to the Force in a similar fashion, especially since Obi-Wan disappeared an the moment before Vader’s saber hit him.

Did he? I always thought Vader killed him.

His robe is empty before Vader’s blade hits, but it could just as easily have been the limited special effects of 1977.

if that wasn’t the intention lucas would’ve changed it for one of the SEs.
