This post, my 21268th, will NOT be my last post on originaltrilogy.com. Nevertheless, like yhwx before me, this is a post I’ve been delaying writing for a few weeks now, for a reason I don’t really know.
Over these last 3-4 months, my … let’s call it “keen investment” … in the forum has waned. A number of once-regular posters have faded into the ether, and the colour they brought to this place has faded with them. Discussions hereabouts don’t pique/hold my interest as they once did, and their absence in the proceedings plays into that. At the same time, this is the only on-line community I’m really a part of and I have no friends in the real world, so I need this place for socialization, to keep myself from going stir crazy.
tl;dr: I’m not really leaving, but I am going into semi-lurker mode for an indefinite period of time.

unfortunately, past fuck ups and new fuck ups ruined my relationship. i feel terrible. because i was trying so hard to give her the best thing she could hope for - for her to be as happy as ever, and… nothing. i tried my best. and she still broke up with me.
honestly, i’ve been crying for hous now. i’m destroyed. i don’t remember ever being this sad.

I’m in a similar boat with you. I saw and enjoyed all the PT films when I was a kid but at the time I didn’t think either TPM or AOTC quite measured up to the OT (AOTC in particular was something of a disappointment to me at the time).
Huh. I liked the prequels more than the OT for years as a child. It wasn’t until I was 12 that I came to find them inferior. For a while I really disliked them, but now I’ve come back around and enjoy them again (except TPM, what a slog).
Well I was blessed with the OT before I saw the PT so I knew what was good right beforehand and had that to measure the PT against.
disagree with the blessed part, because that way you don’t enjoy as many things as i do, for example.

well, i disagree. i think it’s a good line accompanied by a great score and a pretty good delivery by portman.

i don’t know. i guess some of the stuff most of you find weird don’t bother me at all - like the cgi - which makes me not dislike them, and be open to like them.
anyway, i don’t really get a star warsy feeling from tpm. i do get it from aotc though: because of how slow it is, it makes me comfortable. it’s a good feeling. i feel at home. i enjoy geonosis and the “something’s about to happen” feel. and i watched aotc a heck of a lot of times, so i associated this feeling with star wars. it’s the same feel esb gives me, but esb does everything 1000x better therefore i get an even better experience out of that one.
rots just feels like THE star wars to me. like, the open war scenes excite me. i don’t mind the cgi, so that’s fine. i enjoy palpatine taking over. it excites me. not sure how else to describe it - it just resonates well with me.
because i’m at it, i’ll go on for the rest.
rogue one gave me the same exciting feel, while adding something new to the mix. it was great, i loved the movie.
star wars gives me the best feeling overall. i feel excited and happy, i get nervous and anxious, i live all of luke’s emotions with him every single time. and the sense of mystery and discovery before we meet him - always great. never gets old.
rotj gives me the same feeling as star wars, but i don’t enjoy it as much - simple as that.
tfa feels like a very weird version of star wars. it’s still there but it’s weird.
unfortunately, tlj doesn’t feel like star wars at all. i will be getting the blu ray and rewatching it this week, and then we’ll see.
I think one of the things that make the PT feel like Star Wars is that all of Lucas’ entries are quirky. The PT suffers from terrible execution in many aspects, but TPM feels like ANH to me, but with less interesting characters and much lower stakes. The ST is overall much better executed, but it does all feel very derivative, and superficial, and lacks Lucas’ imagination, IMO.

i’m surprised by how popular TPM is here. everyone i know IRL or elsewhere thinks it’s the worst by far.
how did no one see obi-wan in the death star then? pretty sure that place would have cameras too.
i like it. the thing that annoys me the most is how the fountain has no sound whatsoever until the aerial shot.
i don’t think it’s a terrible thing - but people certainly have done terrible things because of it.
but some people really do follow the values and morals of their religion to their heart, and I don’t see how that’s negative, since in theory 90% of religions say you should do good things. dare I say they’re a silent majority.
but i really don’t know much about it, that’s just what i think.
