 The PM I sent did actually contain the links, and you would have found most of what Ripplin told you by browsing the thread.  I don't know what these search results were meant to show, but as I said the clues are in the thread, not the links; and you could have googled terms with which you might have been unfamiliar.

I wonder if Adywan's made any progress on an HD version yet.  Even if an HD version isn't possible, a DVD-9 would probably be a substantial improvement all on its own.

No; there are no HD deleted scenes.  As extras on blu-ray discs are often in standard definition, I wouldn't count on HD deleted scenes on the blu-ray release either.

I'll try for 1400 MB next time then. :-) 

I'm not sure if anyone still burns films to CDs any more, as DVD-5s are so cheap, and many people just play AVIs from hard drives.

Well, people seem to think that 1.7 GB is too big, though as doubleofive pointed out, Adywan's AVI of ANH:R was 1.67 GB, so maybe the size wasn't too big. I basically wanted to know what size of AVI I should be aiming for i.e. what size are people comfortable downloading; what do they expect in terms of a trade off between quick downloads and quality?

I did know about cropping borders and converting the audio, though I wanted to keep the 5.1.  Many people like to play the 5.1 on their PS3/Xbox 360s. 

I have never really gone into DRF before.  :-)

Can anyone suggest an optimal balance between quality and file size for an Xvid AVI?  The old 700 MB (1 CD) AVIs don't really look very good.   2 CDs wouldn't be far off the 1.7 GB that I chose for my recent Xvid AVI, but people seem to think it is too big.

1.7 GB is the Xvid.  It was made big to preserve the quality, whilst being relatively quick to download compared to the DVD-5.

Actually doubleofive is right.  ANH:R's AVI was 1.67GB, so it was virtually the same size.

I have never really seen the problem with the film.  Revisiting some of the best bits of Star Wars in the final film has never seemed like a bad idea to me.  The three elements of the climax work well enough, though three sequences happening simultaneously is definitely the limit. 

I don't mind some of the childish humor with the Ewoks, if that is what it is.  I don't even mind some of it in the PT; it was just Jar Jar that really annoyed me on the humor side. 

It is not the great film that ESB is, but it was an extremely hard act to follow.  Part of ROTJ's problem is that it had to cover so much ground in one film.  

If you've missed something, then so have I. 

Ah!  I understand.  Drive space isn't really an issue, so I'd prefer the "old way".

Perfectpawn, follow the instructions that TV's Frink gave you in the link.  We can guide you from there, once you have the files.  There is no reason why you should not be able to burn the DVD.  It is very simple, and I'm willing to guide you through it.

Why?  These two statements are contradictory.  You say you are unable download the files; then you say you can, but you can't play them.  (Using a dlc doesn't require any skill: you just open it with jdownloader, and it does everything else.)

Why can't you play them?  If you have downloaded the DVD, use Imgburn to burn it.  If you have the AVI, use VLC to play it.  You open VLC, then use it to open the AVI.  I have never heard of VLC being unable to play a simple AVI, and it is most unlikely that your computer cannot handle a simple AVI. 

You need to explain more clearly what exactly is causing you trouble and why.
