Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Baronlando said:  Anyone seen the new blu of LEGEND?

Yeah, I love that film.  The note from Ridley Scott that is displayed before the director's cut starts says that the quality is less than optimal, but overall it looks good to me -- a little soft perhaps, but I don't mind that with a film like Legend.  I'm really happy with the new Blu-ray.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Harmy said:. The download size is only 3.7GB, so I'll probably be adding one or two more audio mixes, if I figure out how to do it. But if anything, I'd be adding the monomix and the stereo mix, so that it has the complete 1977 audio mix range.

The disc size is actually 4.27 GB.  I tried to squeeze the mono mix on, but it was a little too large.

EDIT:  Multiupload appears not to have uploaded part5 to Megaupload successfully.  That's why you read the download as 3.7 GB.  You'll have to use one of the other download services for that file.

Indiana Jones Trilogy (Released)
Time

I found a remux (not a re-encode) of the BBC broadcast of The Last Crusade, which I downloaded a while back, on an old hard drive.  Yesterday, I PMed ChainsawAsh about it because I thought he was working on the WOWOW caps, but it turns out he doesn't have them.  Personally, I don't care about the Japanese subs, so I'm happy with the WOWOW versions, but I might make an MKV myself as an experiment in encoding at some point.  It won't be for quite a while though, so if anyone wants to the sections without subs, PM me.  (I won't upload the whole broadcast though, just the required sections, because my connection's limited.)

I also have a Canal+HD cap of Raiders of the Lost Ark that might be used to replace subs (but not the BBC version) so the same goes for that.  I never bothered with Temple of Doom because I can't stand it, so I can't help with that one.

Most likely the GOUT disc for ESB has a darker picture then the GOUT disc of SW as I used the same colour settings for Empire as I did the revised SW disc. :)

Oh, I see!  The same color settings are being applied to each film.  Did you not adjust them between the first and second versions of SW though?  I seem to remember that you said something to that effect earlier on.  I can fully understand that you don't want to re-do it though.  Overall it looks great. :)

I watched the revised version of SW today.  The improvement over the previous version is not huge, but it is significant. This is well worth downloading.  There are still some minor problems: color fluctuations, while Threepio is wandering across Tatooine's sands; some funky sky appearing, especially when Luke first meets the droids; but the excessive brightness that was present in parts of the first version seems largely to have been rectified, at least to my eyes.  Overall the colors are simply stunning, especially given the source.

It is a shame that the minor issues will not be fixed, but I can understand that Lee doesn't want to devote any more time to this project.  Arnie'd's V8 will remain my version of choice, but this is the one I'll watch every time I want to see a recreation of the original technicolor appearance of SW.  Bring on ROTJ. :D

I've finished watching ESB.  It looks very very good.  As with SW, I think it's probably as good as it's possible to achieve with a single setting.  The only point that I might raise is that at times the picture seemed a little dark, so I put the brightness up a little on my TV; but this might be down to individual settings, and it's a minor problem.  Overall, this release looks gorgeous. It is now my preferred version of the original theatrical cut of ESB.  I'm downloading the revised version of SW as I type.  Thanks for all your hard work, Lee. :)

^^^ I think Frink was wondering whether anything in particular caused Sky's latest eruption.  We were probably just due for one...

But seriously, take the informative thoughts you post periodically and combine them into an essay/opinion piece and release it just before blu-ray day.  Print out hundreds of copies and stick them under the windshield wipers of people going to buy the new set.

lol

Anyone hate Return of the Jedi?

What CO said.  I know a number of older people who like just the original Star Wars.

The more I watch the films the more I come round to Anchorhead's way of thinking.  While ESB remains a superbly crafted film, I find it increasingly hard to stomach the big reveal when I watch it.  I don't hate ROTJ: I simply find it disappointing.  The only time I watch it is when I feel nostalgic, which isn't that often.

joshdv said:I think it was the 1997 Special Edition laser disc audio. Maybe you could add the 1997 Special Edition laser disc audio as an optional secondary track to this.

That audio was on the '97 SE AVCHD.  As I recall, Adywan's theatrical reconstruction had audio sourced from various places.  Hairy hen gave precise details not long ago.

LOL!

About BD re-releases, I don't think there will be any, aside from minor packaging differences.  There will probably be a new 3D release in the future, but Lucas takes his time, so it might not be on BD.

Fine.

CP3S said:  The picture he posted in this thread was a caricature of a racial stereotype, calling something what it is is mudslinging now?

"Go post some fist pumps or caricatures that make fun of racial stereotypes in some of your Off-Topic threads" sounded like you were speaking in general terms rather than about one image to me, but I suppose I'll take your word for it.  (It also certainly comes across as a little more aggressive than a simple suggestion that he might be happier posting in off topic.)  It sounded like you were bringing it up simply to bolster your first point, which is why it seemed like mudslinging to me, but I apologize if this really wasn't your motivation.  It just seems strange that someone who knows Frink would think his motivation was anything other than poking fun at the representation of the Jar Jar character in the film itself.

That's uncalled for.  Frink's GIFs are all about the action or facial expression contained therein, and depict people from a wide range of racial groups, as even a cursory glance at Frink's GIF thread might be expected to reveal.  If you don't like Frink's tendency to go off topic, then that's fair enough, but the above smacks of mudslinging.

For the record, I don't think the Criterion discussion is too far off topic.  I'm sure most of us agree that we usually tolerate far worse.

To be on topic, I've decided to buy the BD set.  The fact that I want the OOT restored doesn't override the fact that I watch and will watch edits based on the Special Editions and I believe in buying what I watch when it's commercial available.  To me it's that simple.

That's reasonable, but he didn't just ignore those of us who argued with him; he ignored droves of people whom he'd never even crossed paths with! You've got to admit, that's a little odd...

See, no wonder he ignored you when you talk about him like this.

Everyone just kind of ganged up on him.

That's not true at all.  Akwat Kbrana is right.  J T34 ignored many people who had not interacted with him at all and people who were nice to him.  That sort of thing is bound to create a certain notoriety.
