Song Of The South - many projects, much info & discussion thread (Released)

Thanks. I've used Srestore before. It just occurred to me that the terminology I used was imprecise because I typed quickly without thinking. I didn't mean that it was a classic field-blended NTSC-to-PAL conversion: I meant that every (or almost every) field is a blend of two fields -- "full field blended" might be a better way of putting it.

@chewtobacca: I believe it is from the same broadcast. The version I used as the "original" came from OldSkoolFan over on MySpleen.

Oh, I see. I didn't realize that you weren't the one who recorded the broadcast in the first place. Mine was recorded a while back and wasn't downloaded. I don't think that it's likely to be of use to anyone though, because it's a bit of a mess.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Bingowings said: I know Ady has had loads of hurdles to overcome but it has taken too long to maintain the same degree of enthusiasm that I had a couple of years ago. Obviously I still wish him well and hope he overcomes all these obstacles...

I feel the same way. I'm still interested in seeing the result, but have moved on a bit since ANH:R.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Harmy said:

So, guys, I was thinking, what would you think if I released v2.1 as AVCHD and MKV now... ...I really want the BD to be worthwhile content wise, and I just don't have the time to do that to my complete satisfaction just now

That sounds like a practical plan, Harmy. Remuxing the MKV with tsmuxer is as easy as pie, and my suspicion is that the average person would forgo the menu and lossless audio to have 2.1 without a longer, indeterminate delay. I suggest you release the MKV.

EDIT: This might also take the pressure of releasing 2.1 (which I'd imagine you are feeling to some extent) off a bit.

Yeah, it occurred to me that Gene's influence after TMP was still quite strong.

I'm not sure exactly what to make of this news yet.

You_Too said: If you know where you kept it, and haven't filled that harddrive completely with other stuff, there's a chance it's still there.

Thanks guys, but I have indeed copied other data to the drive. Oh, well. I guess it's one of those things. I just like the colors and quality of that MKV.

STAR WARS - Special Widescreen Edition (Technidisc) (Released)

Looks good to me. If the result looked like that in terms of color, I would be very happy.

I don't know what caused that frame to go missing. Maybe a decoding error? I haven't seen anything like that with HCenc. I always check my encodes against the original.

msycamore said: So I'm a little torn, make a true preservation of the LD or try to make this transfer to look as good as possible.

I think you know my view already. I'm in favor of the latter. :)

Had a similar problem in THX where the white void is yellow and red/pink at the same time, in RGB colorspace I believe it would've been an easy match but in YUV colorspace it's nearly impossible to correct. How the hell do you guys do it.

Why don't you convert to RGB to perform your color correction and then back for encoding? The quality loss is minor, in my opinion, and more than worth it.

EDIT: Your latest sample looks good to me.

msycamore said:Yes, Chewie did a DVD of Arnie.d's raw X9 capture as I recall. I don't want to piss on his/their effort and Mallwalker's huge undertaking of uploading these, as I'm very grateful but the truth is that those captures doesn't accurately represent how those LD-transfers look, something clearly went wrong in the capture chain, they aren't smear-free at all, the colors are bleeding and there's a chroma shift that's nowhere to be seen on the actual LD's.

No urination is involved. :D I agree, and after you found the problems with the captures I lost interest in doing anything with them, which is why I never bothered to encode SW. That and I decided that your Technidisc looked better, in spite of the lobster faces.
