That looks really great jonh! Excellent job so far. I’m curious, how did you create the shots where they all raise their hands to help Rey?
For obi wan, anakin and luke, I have photographed my hand, and for yoda, I did a montage with the ROTS yoda arm …
frankensteins
I think I’m going insane… The video attached to that link says it was uploaded a week ago, and there’s no shots of them lifting hands…
I suppose it’s time to make a permanent exit from this thread. My low regard for ROTJ is clear by now; there’s no point continuing my snarky remarks. I’ll try keeping to the areas of the forum where my cynicism is less liable to flare up.
You should feel welcome in any thread regardless of your opinions! Your distinctive humour and “cynicism” if you really want to call it that, is a much needed breath of fresh air in these bleak threads.
Yeah, that’s right. Google just picks for you, not always helpfully.
Right…
Thanks everyone for your help!
?
Which version?
Any of the digital versions, 720, 1080 and the tiny encode. I don’t know how to select which track I want when I download the files, that’s why it was just luck that I used to always end up with getting the commentary track. Now it no longer does that.
I don’t like how the Resistance character Beamount played by Dominic Monaghan says cloning is a secret only the sith knows, would be cool if he said something referencing Kamino “Dark Science, Kamino…secrets only the sith knew” something along those lines, although some would argue the Sith are responsible for the creation of the clone army back in the prequel era.
We could source the audio from that iconic scene in Lord of the Rings when Merry and Pippin team up with Master Sifo-Dyas to defeat Count Dooku. (in disguise as Saruman)
“The Rise of Skywalker - Rekindled”
Don’t give me hope.
Much better, only thing I see that could be nitpicked is his size, mainly the broad shoulders.
Definitely digging the red though.
I actually have no problem with the bodies, I think head replacement does the trick! As for the colours of the liquid, honestly I could go either way, I just thought the red came off a little too strong and thought maybe that the green was more subtle.
Ok, here’s a version without the lightning scars and scaled down a bit! Still need to tweak the track a little.
Palpatine Clones - Clear
PW: fanedit
Wow, that was fast! Definitely an improvemt! It looks fantastic! Just out of curiousity, why did you choose to change the fluid to red rather than the yellowy green?
Edit:
Can I just go on record as saying that my god, Poppasketti, you certainly do not get enough credit! You are honestly one of the most talented VFX people I know!
Just to throw out some potential lines people could say:
“For Leia!”
“We’re with you, Poe/General Dameron!”
“[insert callsign], standing by.”Callsign ideas: Phoenix, Ace, Phantom, Wraith, Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Wolf, Wraith, various planet names (like Naboo Fleet, Bespin, Ryloth, etc.). You could either say Leader or Squadron, or a specific number. Maybe people could think of some clever easter eggs to throw in at this point.
I think the “all wings report in” moment would be great for the reveal shot, as we hear all these people raise their voices in solidarity. Then throughout the battle we could get various lines like, “For Skywalker!” I do think add voices to the battle would definitely help make that incomprehensible number of digital ships feel more like real, living people joining the fight.
PS: Dibs on “Rogue Leader”
There seemed to be lots of ships there from the Mon Cala fleet, perhaps someone could do a convincing Mon Calamari impression?
Even for Snoke I thought it was an oversight on their part. Cloning the injury of a subject is kinda ridiculous.
I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again, Palpatine’s deformed face IS his true appearance, the ‘Chancellor Palpatine’ look is a Sith mask, a cosmetic disguise to hide the fact that years of Dark Side corruption have taken a toll on his face. Why when he rejuvenated in TROS would he look like he does in the rest of the films and not like a normal person? Because that is his normal appearance.
His fight with Mace Windu exposed his true self.
It be cool if someone could replace the vats of Snoke clones with ones of Palapatine instead.
I’m not sure if this is something for this edit, but here’s a first pass at this idea:
Palpatine Clones
PW: faneditAlso, I just want to say I love the work being done here. It’s really fantastic and inspiring to see!
Holy shit! That’s terrific! Basically perfect!
Have you tried to give them slightly different expressions?
Minor bump.
I used to get the commentary tracks from the downloads on Google drive (which is what I want, I like the commentary!) but I just downloaded Episode 1 again after having to delete my original file, but the commentary track is no longer present.
Oh my god! Hal, I’ve just had a great idea! (Or at least I think it’s great!)
Okay so hear me out, you’ve referred to all of us members of the site as the “massive, random civilian fleet of support” when it comes to helping you out with this edit, as in this case, as you’ve said, you wanted to take more of a backseat and hand the wheel to us.
You also said as one of your first suggestions for the edit that you thought it was a good idea to incorperate many people saying things along the lines of “for Skywalker!” over the comms when they come to help Poe.
That got me thinking, what if as a tribute to the help of all of the members on the site, we all chip in by literally becoming the civilian fleet?
Everyone who has the time and a proper mic at home can send an audio bite of them saying a different phrase like: “We’re with you Poe!, For Skywalker!, Let’s go!” etc, etc…
Hopefully we would be able to get a large enough range of voices as this site is relatively diverse enough to have men and women from all over the world!
You’ll just have to imagine a gif for this one:
When you open your bank account and see your tax refund.
Palpatine being rejuvenated by the dyad, eyes brightening
A month later, finally got around to making it for you:
Everyone, use it at your convenience.
Avada Kedavra is the least of the 3 unforgivable curses because it’s a painless death. Imperio is far more horrifying.
Yeah, it’s weird since there are many other ways to kill someone in Harry Potter that seem way worse but they’re not considered ‘unforgivable’
For example, look at how Molly Weasley killed Bellatrix and tell me that this isn’t also a “one way ticket to Azkaban”
I think only the sequels could potentially work as a 3 in 1.
Major bump.
Please tell me you’re still alive and slowly making progress.
Looking good Bobson, glad you’re back!
The clip works well in my opinion! Only problem I can see is that the alien says: “Two jedi have landed in the main hanger bay, we’re tracking them.” aren’t they still cutting down the droids at this point? Why do they need to be tracked through the ship if they aren’t running around like the hologram suggests?
On another note, how are your other projects going? I’m super hyped to see your Luke force ghost scene as well!
I’ve been thinking that it might be easier to create a Coruscant shot to replace the Ewok shot in the ending montage by possibly using the removed Star Destroyer matte to add to an already existing Coruscant shot from the prequels.
Here’s a very rough mockup that I did in like two minutes:
By doing this, we can avoid having to go to the trouble of rendering new models that might not fit with the original film’s aesthetic.
If we don’t want to go in this route though, I am more than confident in snooker’s abilities to create something awesome!
In saying that however, snooker, hate to be a nuisance since I’m sure you have better things to do, but I’ve had trouble motion tracking these two elements together (the crashing destroyer and the AOTC city) so might you be able to see if we can make this shot work by trying it out? 🙏 ☺️
If you don’t think that this shot from AOTC works much, I’m sure there could be another shot from the prequels we could use!
Having Rey glow with a slight, ghost-y blue outline also conveys the idea that the Force spirits help her.
That’s what I had done for my version of the scene, but it looks like we’re not going with that anymore. 😐
FaceApp unfortunately only has an ‘Old’ filter, no middle-aged filter, so my crude ageing technique can only do old old. I can approximate a sort-of middle-aged look by blending the old face on top of the young face at a reduced opacity, however.. It doesn’t really resemble Hayden’s actual ageing, though.
Now that I’ve had the chance to revisit this, I reckon that the 35% works best. Anakin was 45 years old when he died so having him look that way makes WAY more sense than the 22 year old we got!
I can’t find any mention of rescoring the fight between kylo and rey.
Seriously though, welcome to the site! I should probably tell you however that this subject has been brought up and experimented with by multiple people countless times since the film came out. 😂 It definitely is a good idea however, and is certainly worth revisiting!
Edit:
I agree with Jar Jar Bricks about a complete rescore as well!
Looking pretty perfect! All you have to do now is overlay the edited parts with the purple saber footage from Skenera and we’re set!
Edit:
One tiny little nitpick!
Would it be possible to swap Anakin’s head onto a body from possibly Ben Kenobi?
It would probably match this scene a little better:
You are literally on a website called ‘OriginalTrilogy.com’ can you imagine what could happen if you suggest such things here! 😉
