I don’t agree with everything in your post, but this

Whereas ‘Just Rey’ maps better to the metaphor of “I have the support of what came before, but I’m something new and bold and I’m going to go in my own direction.”

I agree with 100% and is why I’m all in on the “Just Rey” ending.

Wow, that looks excellent! How DO you whip these up so quickly?

Dom's (Possibly) Useful TROS Edit (WIP)

Nah, it still sounds too chopped-up as it is…wish I was more skilled with audio stuff. I think just EQ-ing the different “patches” to blend a little better is the key - as it is, it sounds like a couple snippets have much more bass to them.

Maybe even processing it more - compress the dynamic range so the pieces all feel like they’re at the same volume/intensity, then run it through whatever filters to give it the “mask modulated” sound?

Again, don’t know a ton about audio work, this is just me spitballing stuff that might be nonsense words.

1997 Special Edition Audio Mixes, GOUT-Synced (Released)

For the GOUT-sync audio tracks HAL 9000 has collected/put together here, which encode version is believed to be the highest quality in terms of audio fidelity?

I ask because in looking at the D+77 release by oohteedee I see he notes that he has not muxed the DTS-MA audio track in. Since I’m an audio guy this got me wondering which GOUT-sync audio track would be the one I want to have muxed into my GOUT-sync releases.

Thanks!

I’ll say that Hal’s source for this project was the 1997 cinema DTS CDs, which are not lossless (I think they’re around 768kbps or something). Hairy_hen’s 5.1 mixes were made with uncompressed and/or lossless sources, so they’re higher bitrate.

Basically, Hal’s project is sourced from a newer official mix, but is lossy, while hairy_hen’s is sourced from older official mixes, but is lossless.

Conceptually I think including Ben works fine, but yeah, that particular clip of it isn’t quite polished to the degree that I think it would need to be included.

Very diplomatically said. I would have said Ben looks like a hobbit on his way to Mordor in the tests being released. TROS already has one hobbit, it doesn’t need another lol. I know Hal said Ben’s ghost looks ok but every idea here seems to go through the ringer except this one which is just going through as-is… no bueno. The footage used for Ben was chosen because he was smiling but the composition with added hair, etc increases the cartoonishness. The Luke and Leia force ghosts look slightly strange and Ben looks very weird. I would prefer to see if jonh has time to redo them all correctly.

Uh…you saw the part where the Ben thing was snagged from someone else’s video as proof of concept of adding Ben, right? As in, that shot would be redone from scratch rather than just using the thing Poppasketti grabbed from someone else’s edit. That’s why I so “diplomatically” worded it - not to spare Poppasketti’s feelings, but because he outright stated that Ben wasn’t his work (in fact, he erased Anakin from the shot!)

what do you want to fix in ROTJ?

Well, what I’d like to see is a version of the Hayden ghost in ROTJ that looks more content and proud of Luke and less…creepy. Just more appropriate to the moment than the take George chose.

And I’d be curious to see what it would look like with the aging-up you’ve given him for TROS.

I don’t think that’s what Hal was saying. It’s a given that “Just Rey” only works if she’s Palpatine’s progeny. What Hal’s saying is he thinks “Just Rey” needs to be specifically set up by the explicit use of the name “Rey Palpatine” at some point during the movie, which I don’t think is necessary.

But yes, the “Just Rey” ending only works if she’s a Palpatine, because it’s her specifically choosing to forge her own path and not aligning herself with her actual family name (Palpatine) or her “adopted family” name (Skywalker).

In a Rey Nobody edit, you’d have to do something else with that scene, I think. If you even use it.

That would be nice, I suppose, but I don’t think it’s needed.

As for titles, while I like The Final Order, I would be annoyed at every ST film being a 3 word title (shit, all 3 already begin with “The” which is bad enough). Maybe Rise of the Final Order?

Balance of the Force is thematically appropriate and all, but rather bland.

Maybe something along the lines of A Destiny Divided, but not lame and not 3 words? I dunno, it’s almost 7am and I’m at the end of a 12hr workday so my brain don’t worky so good-like right meow.

The Falcon ending is EXCELLENT and I sincerely hope it’s what ends up going in the edit! The initial Falcon VFX still needs a bit of polish (seems a little thin when it’s closer to the camera), but the jump to hyperspace with the trail behind it is the perfect ending IMO.

“Just Rey” is coming along nicely, but it still sounds “processed” between the “just” and the “Rey.”

The last 4 episodes of the season are The Siege of Mandalore and they’re the best thing the show has ever done (well, the last of the 4 airs Monday, so I guess we’ll see for sure).

And audio only won’t work in order to keep it consistent - you see the entire hologram Plot to Destroy the Jedi scene as it appears in the theatrical ROTS, complete with Ki-Adi-Mundi’s lines that Obi-Wan says in the deleted scene, and the scene continues on after it ends in the movie as Ahsoka enters the hologram conversation.

Here’s the TCW 7x11 scene. TCW final arc spoilers at the very end, after Ahsoka walks in.

when I watched the movie I thought it was a missed opportunity to not have 3po mention Anakin after the memory re-wipe, but I don’t if there was something I missed for him not doing it

I thought this too. It could be great if the dialogue could be changed to something along the lines of
‘Artoo, have you heard? I’m going with Master Anakin on a very important mission’

This doesn’t make sense to me. If his memory is wiped, he wouldn’t remember anything. Does your computer remember your username and password when you reformat the hard drive? Of course not.

In terms of colours for Exegol, I’m firmly in the camp of:

  • A greyscale planet, with no tint, to imply absolute lifelessness
  • Non-green fluid for the clones (either red for the nice contrast, or we make as much as possible of this tech look Kaminoan), to clash with the later green
  • Green mists around the throne, as it’s a nice alien colour we’ve not had in a finale for a while, both evil and not just sith-red, and also as a bonus hints at the Nightsister connection for those that care.

I really like all of these ideas! Well, the latter two anyway - the greyscale planet I’d have to see in action.

I think the answer lies with Rey’s “Be with me” chant. It seems like Rey tried to connect with the Force on a deeper level than Luke could in the OT, in order to commune with past Jedi she had never even met. Perhaps this connection she is trying to establish can allow for spirits to interfere with the material world, with Rey acting as a conduit.

Yep, that’s pretty much how I’m interpreting it.
