Frankly, them being Luke’s former students never made much sense to me; I always assumed they were a shady group that Ben fell in with, probably before his fall even happened.
But I definitely did assume Ben was the one who killed all the students, so hearing that the comic does away with that idea is…disappointing.
Yeah, the idea that any act is irredeemable - or that dying is required for redemption - seems to spit in the face of the core message of the franchise…
It is pandering but it’s pretty harmless so cutting it seems pretty extreme and a little yikes.

I actually think it is feasible to have Artoo tell blank Threepio the story of the saga, it’s just about finding appropriate footage of the two on the Falcon that matches the surrounding footage, and finding suitable Threepio lines from somewhere among the bazillion times Daniels has voiced the part.

- Rey on the Falcon at the end,
- with her friends with her playing chess
- And 3PO’s memory remains wiped
Can we add something to the final falcon scene around R2 telling 3PO the whole story as a callback to GL’s original idea of the saga being a story that was being told to someone who was unfamiliar with it?
I very much like this idea and hope it can somehow be implemented.
And if Threepio’s memory is still restored, we can always use someone else as the unfamiliar party.

The fact that it’s treated as a joke that’s little more than a device to get our heroes out of one jam instead of a development of his character, and then immediately killing him off.
That dialogue is a little on the nose for me, but I like the idea.
FOTR wasn’t a complete DI, which is part of why the EE BR is so different compared to TTT and ROTK (which were complete DI’s). So at least some film would need to be scanned again for FOTR.
As for the other two, I’d assume it would be a 2K upscale with an HDR grade, just like the vast majority of modern CGI-heavy films already are on UHD BR.
Because the ending as is is absolutely earned and doesn’t feel forced at all… 🙄
I’m absolutely loving the “Rey as balance” idea and am in agreement with RogueLeader wholeheartedly on his interpretation of the “light vs. dark” stuff.
And I’m surprised at how much I’m into the “illusion Palpatine” idea but am not convinced at all that it can be successfully pulled off in an edit.
There’s plenty of precedent in Star Wars for one character to speak English to another character who’s speaking an alien language that’s subtitles. Just look at Han/Greedo in ANH and Jabba in ROTJ.
I say replace the droid’s voice in every instance and subtitle it, even when speaking to the Jedi.

there’s something about Snooker’s original concept shot that I really like:
It’s that little slowdown of the Falcon as it reorients itself to go to Hyperspace, along with the punchy Hyperspace sound placed just so in the space between musical notes and the speed of its acceleration. It just feels right to me, though I do like your take on the path.

I’m torn as to which of the two I like more, but I’m gonna have to lean towards A for the reasons others have mentioned - while I love the ESB-esque model of B (complete with ESB’s weird yellow engine glow), option A fits aesthetically with the ST much better.
Really, that’s the line I care about the least. “He’s no good to me dead” and “As you wish” are the biggest ones that need fixing.

That’s not true. If it was, the Cinema DTS track of TPM wouldn’t sync with the VHS and laserdisc. But it does.

pw: faneditI made the falcon bigger, engines stronger, adjusted light speed jump direction, and smoothed the path a bit. There’s also a few other small enhancements, such as light wrapping as the falcon crosses the sun at snooker’s suggestion, and applying the general camera shake of the shot to the ship so it’s better integrated!
I also will be posting a version of snooker’s soon. He rendered out the falcon as a separate element for me to comp in, so we will have options!

Ambiguity is fine, but I don’t want a confirmation that he’s “real” in a Force ghost sense. To me, that scene is entirely metaphor for what’s going on in Ben’s head and it was surprisingly effective at that. To me, Kylo didn’t actually have a vision of Han and didn’t actually speak to him - sure, that’s out of character for the series, but it worked very well for me.
Then again, I’m the guy who still maintains that Rey killed Leia by mistake and no one agrees with me, so…
I like the idea of making the Skywalker Saber unstable like Kylo’s.
That would mean changing the visuals and sound of the saber during the whole movie, i don’t think that is something posible or pratical for a fan edit.

No, but it’s totally doable by someone skilled enough who’s willing to put the time in to do it.
But it is a big ask, as excellent of an idea I believe it to be. One of those “wish I knew how to do it” things…
This edit helps cement the idea that these people are a family now, instead of Rey being completely alone on a desert planet at the end. Her friends are there waiting for her : )
It also helps explain why BB-8 is there, he’s just a curious little friend : )
