The Existential Thread
Time

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy says:

Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that something so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.
The argument goes something like this:
‘I refuse to prove that I exist,’ says God, ‘for proof denies faith, and without faith, I am nothing.’
‘But,’ says Man, ‘the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn’t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and, by your own arguments, you don’t. QED.’
‘Oh dear,’ says God, ‘I hadn’t thought of that,’ and vanishes in a puff of logic.
‘Oh, that was easy,’ says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

Nightcrawler. Good. Jake Glyhandlaler looks old.

One of my favorites. I should give it a rewatch soon. That and Prisoners.

Last movie I watched was Only Lovers Left Alive. Not the first time I’d seen it, but was showing it to a friend for the first time. Love it, though mainly for the mood and the music and not so much for the thinner-than-paper plot.

But the Batman costume had a purpose behind it’s design. (and didn’t some of the late-'80s comics have a pure black outfit?)

Bats first got an all-black costume in the comics in the '90s.

Anyway I love the batsuit because it still embodies the comicbook feel.

I can live with it, but I still prefer the gray-with-black-trunks look.

Maybe it’s because I grew up with it, but I’ve always thought the ‘jet-black with yellow emblem/belt’ look is super cool.

I mean he’s just so darn cool!

I think the color variance of the trunks might actually work better in illustrated form though.

I’ve read Keaton had neck/back issues because he couldn’t actually turn his head in that.

IIRC, the Dark Knight suit was the first one with a neck that could properly turn.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support

I think I suggested this to you in the past (maybe over PM), but I think you should look into quality assurance/quality control jobs. That’s what I do - I work at a plastic factory, collect samples from the production lines, run tests on them, and release good material for shipping or reject bad material. It pays decent, doesn’t require any special degrees or certifications (at least my factory doesn’t), and you never have to deal with customers, just a few coworkers. And you get to yell at people when they insist their product is good but it isn’t and you need to shut down their line.

Most places like this hire through staffing agencies I think, but you can find some job postings online I’m sure. Doesn’t need to be the same industry I’m in, either - lots of manufacturing and assembly type places need quality control techs.

Worth looking into IMO.

Tried to watch Armageddon (Bruce Willis) last night. What a joke. Got about 30 minutes in.

“these guys are astronauts, not drillers; I want to bring my own men”

“Oh, sure” (paraphrase)

So you can teach someone to be an astronaut in two weeks, but not to drill into bedrock?

This was only one problem of many, of course, but this one stood out.

I still haven’t seen a single Michael Bay film. I count myself blessed.

The Rock is a legitimately fun, kinda schlocky 90s action flick. I’d recommend it, and it’s probably the only Bay film I’d say that about (although I enjoy both Bad Boys movies to one degree or another, I can’t recommend them).

Westworld - 2016 tv series
Time

Finally finished season 2.

…meh. Felt like the show kinda went too far up its own ass this time around. I don’t think the fragmented timeline/“puzzle” nature of the story was warranted this season at all beyond the writers trying to show off how smart they are.

I’ll probably give season 3 a shot, but I don’t think it’s a surprise that this season hemmoraged viewers like it did.
