STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>
Time

You could too.

Honestly, what’s stopping all of you “Man, I wish someone would do X” people from actually doing some research and giving it a try yourself? That’s what almost everyone here who makes edits and preservations did - there’s only a small subset who were already experienced when they started doing this stuff.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

This is everyone’s friendly reminder not to ask for ETAs on fan projects, particularly Revisited - there’s a reason Ady no longer provides ETAs and people constantly asking when it will be finished got really really really old during ESB:R’s 8+ year production.

4K77 reel by reel color grading (a WIP)
Time

This will be used for an update of 4K77 that williarob is currently working on. It will be a big upgrade on top of the color - no more upscaled Blu-Ray frames, no-DNR and DNR will be brought into the same “fork” so updates to one can be applied to the other easily, some redone/additional cleanup, etc.

I don’t know if there will be zero frames from the new 4K UHD Blu-Ray, but since the team now has a 4K scan of a 1997 SE print, that is possible. But at minimum there will be no more 1080p upscaled frames.

Retro Gaming - a general discussion thread
Time

I can confirm that the PlayStation Classic is super easy to “hack” using a USB 2.0 flash drive to install the initial payload using controller port 2, then once that’s done, copying everything over to a proper USB drive (in my case a 2TB portable HDD) and plugging it in using an OTG cable. I’m using Project Eris.

It took a little bit of tinkering but I now have the complete NES, SNES, MSX2, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Atari 2600/5400/7800, Sega Game Gear, Nintendo GameBoy, Nintendo GameBoy Color, Nintendo GameBoy Advance, and PSX libraries on the drive and most of what I’ve tried works great! I’ve so far finished Final Fantasy I-III on the NES and will be starting up Final Fantasy IV in the next day or two.

As long as you aren’t trying to emulate N64, Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, or newer, the PlayStation Classic is a very solid choice. (Though apparently a couple N64 games do work.)

Terminator 2: which version to watch - Theatrical vs Special vs Extended?
Time

The 2015 Blu-Ray is solid, probably the best one out there and it has both cuts on the disc.

I used to like the extended cut but over time I’ve come to prefer the pacing of the theatrical. One of these days I’d like to do a hybrid cut with just a couple of extended cut scenes restored…

(FYI I’m talking about the primary extended cut; the Easter Egg one has the cheesy alternate ending, I think.)

It’s more about not smashing straight to the Palpatine reveal. If nothing else, the Mustafar provides a little buildup and anticipation of the Palpatine reveal.

I don’t know that it provides any buildup or anticipation, though. Theoretically it could, but the structure of the story (and its execution in the film itself) prevents that. I agree that Mustafar is supposed to possibly function as buildup, but I don’t think it does that at all

Mustafar sucks

Kill it

I personally still think that the movie should start with this clip. And completely erase mustafar. (Which doesn’t seem to mustafar)

Good call, jonh! Here’s a quick mockup of that idea:
TROS - Alt Opening without Mustafar
pw: fanedit

Ooh, YES! I actually was thinking of keeping more of the TIE flight than this (start with him navigating through the nebula using the Wayfinder), but this works really really well.

JEDIT: Holy crap I didn’t realize how many more pages there were after this…my bad!

I still will advocate for removing Mustafar entirely for any TROS edit. That’s getting ever closer to being a “TROS edit deal breaker” for me (much like how keeping the droid factory is an “AOTC edit deal breaker” for me).

Not my thread, but if we were to remove Mustafar I’d much prefer starting the film at the point where Kylo’s TIE is flying through space with the Wayfinder, rather

Was anyone ever suggesting to open the film on Exegol, skipping the TIE beat?

I’ve been saying to cut Mustafar since day 1, but never meant to suggest we pan down from the crawl to Exegol, I always meant for it to pan down from the crawl to see Kylo in his TIE following the Wayfinder to Exegol. Is the reason everyone dismissed this idea until apparently just now just because people assumed we’d skip the TIE beat, too?

So I watched TROS again a couple of days ago and took some notes as to potential edits:

  • Since Kylo is oddly communing with Vader’s mask after Palps tells him he’s been ‘every voice in his head’, it might work to place this scene right after the opening crawl. The mask could be Vader telling him exactly where to find the wayfinder on Mustafar. Cut to him slaughtering the Cultists.

Fuck yeah, this is a great idea that hadn’t occurred to me! As someone who’s been saying “cut Mustafar entirely” from day one, this might be a way to salvage the Mustafar sequence for me.

  • As a benefit to moving Kylo’s mask communing scene, Rey’s training montage could be uninterrupted by Kylo. Just show her vision, preferably cut like Dom’s proof of concept. Also, have Rey merely say ‘I’m starting to think it’s impossible’ and cut the ‘contact the spirits of the Jedi’ since that is implied.

Also on board with all of this.

I also realize after seeing it again that it’s highly unlikely any Palpatine as illusion plot would work since he is unmoored from the mechanical arm by the end.

😦
