Prototype Mono Pre-ANH "XP77:4EB" Edit (Released)
Time
Wait, I'm confused about somethin' - Molly, you said that your version has no subs, but werent the subs burned-in to the MM edition, or did I miss something there?

EDIT

Ah, nevermind, theyre not - they didn't look generated though, makes you wonder why studios do those really awful shitty looking generated subs when one person can do that much better on their home PC.

Help Wanted: an MP3 of the 1.0 mono mix from the pre-ANH projects?
Time
True. Keeping with that, and since this thread was started as a request for the mono mix MP3, does anyone have an MP3 of the original 77 (not 85 or 93) stereo mix? I've been screwing around with the mono mix myself and can't do much with it without another source, and while I'm using the 85 mix from the MM DVD, I'd like a copy of the stereo mix as well for archival purposes if I ever end up getting the mono mix up to snuff and a DVD made. And I don't suppose *anyone* has a copy of the 4.2 (six-track) mix, short of having an old 70mm reel?

And I know someone mentioned the necessity to transfer this to 5.1, but that would require the creation of a whole new channel. My copy of Tora! Tora! Tora! has 4.1 I believe (or 4.0), so wouldn't it be better preservation-wise to just compile the two LFE tracks into one and make it a 4.1 track, rather than creating a whole new center-speaker track? This is all assuming anyone can ever get their hands on the 4.2 mix...

The "EditDroid" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
I just watched it on another TV/DVD player, and I noticed the quality was significantly lessened - on this other setup the dot crawl is awful, but on my 20" Toshiba flatscreen TV and Toshiba DVD player going through a component output there was none. The other is an older RCA 48"(?) projection TV with an RCA DVD player going through an S-Video cable. I have to say, it looks bad with the dot crawl, but with a better setup and no dot crawl it looks amazing.

Anyway, if and when I decide to do a purist version (which may be sooner than you think ), I'm going all the way and doing everything possibe to make it look and sound like the '77 version. Sorry to confuse you. My ultimate edition ANH DVD would have both the purist version with original crawl, mono track, and no video touch-ups save for your basic noise filters and spot removal, as well as the touched up version with fixed effects and 5.1 audio.

All right! That's exactly what I'd want - I'd like a purist version and an updated "capturing the experience" version. That's a great idea.

Do I detect a hint of bitterness here? When I complained about your effects fixes it was because what you are doing with the pre-ANH crawl idea is preserving the original, and you should preserve everything else as well. If you were releasing not a pre-ANH version, I wouldn't care about that at all. Then there are people who say no matter what it has to be like it was released, but I think if you're going through all the trouble of making one thing identical to its release, why fix something else that was "broken" upon release?

As for Mike's alterations, let me say this: if he was distributing these, I'd get them in a heartbeat. This would be the ideal version of Star Wars in my opinion, but I think history should also be preserved as best as possible.
