Seconded, as an HBO miniseries.

Actually, it's be nice if it was more of an actual miniSERIES, with seven seasons (one for each book) with a few episodes each, like 3 or 4 for Gunslinger, 5 or 6 for Drawing, 7 or 8 for Waste Lands, 9 for Wizard and Glass, 10 for Wolves, 6 or 7 for Susannah, and 9 or 10 for Tower (based on the lengths of the books).

I'd also like to see Chuck Palahniuk's SURVIVOR as a movie with Kevin Spacey as Tender Branson and Jason Lee as the agent.

Basically, yes. I've never seen the original, though.

Finally got to watch Home pt 2 - I was quite impressed. If they'd wanted to end season 1 on a non-cliffhanger note, that should have been it. But TWO WEEKS? Ugh ... bastards ... that's when production starts on my play, so I won't be able to watch the last 3 episodes of this half of the season ... damn Sci-Fi for splitting up the season ...

Help: looking for... The Twilight Zone: The Movie Preservation?

All 1.85:1 movies are cropped from 1.33:1. It's either hard-matted, which means it's cropped when first run through the projector (i.e., the remainder of the film is never exposed, so you have a non-anamorphic 1.85:1 image on a 1.33:1 frame), or it's soft-matted and done after, so the whole 1.33:1 frame is recorded. If this is the case, the director's intent is for it to be shown in 1.85:1 anyway, as they often even go so far as to put cardboard on the monitor to cover the frame. As such, the widescreen is the INTENDED aspect ratio, and the rest of the frame often even has boom mikes and other such mistakes showing. One movie (can't recall the name), a character is supposed to be naked, but in the "unmatted" fullscreen version it is very clear that he is wearing boxers, ruining the scene entirely.

So, widescreen's still the way to go.

Ah, McCreary brought back one of my favorite music cues from season 1, the Irish-sounding one from #110 Hand of God, on the soundtrack it's either called "A Good Lighter" (non-vocals) or "Wander My Friends" (with vocals). I'd been hoping for that to become the kind of Apollo-Adama theme, seems like it might be.

That was a great episode ... next Friday can't come soon enough ...

Lord of the Rings Extended versions
Time
The only one where I felt any scene was put in just to be there was ROTK, and even then the EE was much better than the theatrical. Two Towers was actually the worst of the 3 in theaters, but its the best of the 3 in the EE.

What I did with the side changes, I took each disc, shrank them with DVDShrink, combined them, and now I have each one on one disc. These, though, are the ones I'll watch when I just want to watch them for convenience - they only have the video and the Dolby 5.1 track. If I want to watch them for quality, I'll watch the "official" ones with DTS and a side-change.

Details about the Season 1 US DVD:

The UK edition is being converted to Region 1 and sold as a Best Buy exclusive from Tuesday (July 26) to September 20. Then the official US version is being released on the 20th to all retailers and the UK version is being discontinued.

Here are details on each.

The UK version is a 4-disc set with the 13 episodes and deleted scenes. If it is a direct port of the Region 2 set with no changes, it won't even have chapter stops. It has the UK opening theme song, the one that is now used in Season 2 in the US.

The US version is a 5-disc set with the miniseries, 13 episodes, deleted scenes, commentaries, the "Lowdown" and a Behind the Scenes featurette. This version renders the miniseries DVD pointless because ALL content on the miniseries disc is in this set. It has the US opening theme song that is no longer used as of season 2 (though at the end of Valley of Darkness, 2x02, it is used in the show itself, just not the intro).

I'm giving my miniseries DVD to my uncle and getting the US version - I like the US theme better and I want chapter stops, damn it! (And the commentaries.) Maybe I'll get him the UK version for Christmas or something, he doesn't care about extras for the most part.
