Firefly
Time
Wow, I haven't been in the OT forum for a LONG time ... well anyway ...

Recently a friend of mine let me borrow his set of FIREFLY, for those who don't know (I didn't) it's a sci-fi-western kinda series (but not so much "western" as "western-influenced", I suppose) created by Joss Whedon (guy who did Buffy and Angel), and Fox screwed it up royally by airing the second episode first and the first episode last and NOT airing 3 of them ... pretty much what Fox does to good shows nowadays ...

But anyway, I started watching it, and got hooked. While I was saddened when the 14th and final episode was over, without offering a conclusion of any type, I found out that Universal is continuing it as a movie in September.

I was wondering what other Star Wars fans thought of Firefly - do you like it, hate it, not have any idea what the hell I'm talking about ... ?

Info & Help: looking for... other ld-rips to dvd movies ex. blade runner int cut, songs of the south, frighteners dir cut - and much much more...
Time
90% of the time, when movies are shot 1.33 and cropped to 1.85 or so, it was intended that way. 1.85 movies, if I recall, aren't anamorphic on film, they actually ARE 1.33 images cropped, and that's the way they're shot. Some movies are "soft"-matted, which means that the entire 1.33 frame is shot, but when they are filming, on the monitors and such the top and bottom are covered. So when the film is released in 1.33 "full" frame, when the frame is uncovered, it is NOT how it was intended to be originally, and there can be boom mikes in frame, etc that aren't visible in the widescreen image. So, if a widescreen version exists, 90% of the time, even if the fullframe version shows more, the widescreen version is the intended version. The only exception I can think of off the top of my head is THE EVIL DEAD, which, on the newest DVD (with a DTS soundtrack) was cropped to 1.85 under Sam Raimi's supervision, but it was not how it was originally intended (fullframe).

Info: The 'complete' OT feedback thread. Put all the star wars glitches & fixes in here.

3 Y-wings are flying downward, and for at least one frame (probably two or three), the lowest one disappears when it nears the bottom of the frame.

That and the fact that sometimes there is obviously only one ship in the trench when there should be at least 5 or 6 (Luke, Wedge, Biggs, Vader, and two TIEs for example, and Luke is the only one in a shot that should include all of them) are the only disappearing vehicles I remember right now. Those, however, are inherent to the print.

Things you never noticed before in the films
Time
Fight Club ruined it for me. I'd noticed them before, but thought (for some ODD reason) that it was just a big clod of dust or something. Don't ask why. Now I know, and can spot slight color issues between reel changes on many movies I see in the theater (Episode III was quite bad at one of our screens here; at the reel change on Mustafar, the planet almost shifted orange after the reel change).

But I've never noticed cigarette burns on any home video product before ... has this happened before? I've just seen them in the theater.

Wow, that's great news, Elias - congratulations!

About the Godfather project, what kind of player do you have? I know someone here mentioned (in another thread) owning an X9 - since the X0 is definitely a no-go for this, would whoever owns the X9 be willing to give this a go? It's a lot bigger than Star Wars, though - hell, this is supposed to be one movie and it's longer than all 3 STAR WARS films put together ...

I'd love to help out, but I don't own an LD player or a (decent) capture card ... but if I can, I'd gladly donate to the cause ... (The reason I'm so big on this is because over a year ago I found out about this existing on VHS and ever since I've been looking for a way to get it on VHS or DVD as I don't have an LD player ... well, here it is)

Yeah, that's the Trilogy set. It's all 3 films edited in chronological order as one movie with additional scenes. There's an older one, before III came out, with just I and II, and less deleted scenes added but some of the scenes in that one (the "Epic") are not in the "Trilogy" version.

I wonder how many discs we'd have to make this? I mean, damn, that's three 3-hour-plus films put together PLUS deleted scenes ... the official DVDs were 4 discs for all three films ...

I'd definitely donate to this cause after I get money to donate to the X0 project.

Another thing I'd like to see is "The Godfather: The Complete Epic 1901 - 1959," which was made in the early eighties before III came out. Same kind of deal as "The Godfather Trilogy 1901 - 1980" except without III, and with less added footage. I believe the "Epic" was released on LD as well, though I can't find it on eBay.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion

Tip on getting rid of midi-chlorians while still keeping the Plagueis (sp?) story in (sorry if this has been mentioned earlier):

Change "He could manipulate the midi-chlorians themselves to create life" (from memory, sorry if it's off) to "He could manipulate the Force to create life", taking some clip of Palpatine saying "Force" and using some careful editing to get it in there right.

Why is it that the Sith...
Time
In the ROTS script, in the Qui-Gon cut scene, it mentions that the way to immortality is through passion. The archaic Jedi way allowed for none of this. The Sith had anger, fear, etc., and a lust for power, but no passion. Qui-Gon had passion for Anakin, Obi-Wan for Luke and Anakin, Yoda for Luke (I guess), and Anakin for his children and Padme.

At least, outside of the mention of "passion," that's what I got from it.

<strong>The &quot;ADigitalMan Special Editions&quot; DVD Info and Feedback Thread</strong> (Released)

Optional setting to auto-skip Jabba the Hutt's scene. This is not true seamless branching and pixellates at the cut point, but this is a limitation of the authoring software itself. It's ugly, but extremely brief. For those who hate the Jabba scene, this may be the lesser of two evils.

I know you've already done this, but I made some Greedo sub changes for the hell of it greatly based on the shooting script:

GREEDO
Going somewhere, Solo?

HAN
Yes, Greedo - as a matter of fact, I was just going to see your boss. Tell Jabba that I've got the money.

GREEDO
You said the same thing yesterday - well, it's too late now. I'm not going back to Jabba with another excuse for you.

HAN
Yeah, but this time, I've got the money.

GREEDO
Then I'll take it now.

HAN
I don't have it with me, tell Jabba...

GREEDO
Jabba's through with you. He'd rather have your ship.

HAN
Over my dead body!

GREEDO
That's the idea. Better to get this done quickly and finish it here. They'd hardly notice. I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

HAN
Yes, I bet you have.
