Classic Edition: The Empire Strikes Back by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
I just downloaded this, and let me say first off, overall it's great.

However, three quibbles:

1) Any time a scene has been re-encoded to cut out any SE stuff, the framerate really suffers, and it becomes jerky and quite annoying (also true of SW:CE, but not very noticeable there).

2) The opening crawl - you're not supposed to see the stars inside the STAR WARS lettering, it's supposed to be solid black, but not on this DVD (I didn't notice it in SW:CE at all).

3) I personally feel the lightsaber re-rotoscoping could have been done better.

Other than that, great job - I especially liked your editing of McDiarmid's voice in place of Rivell's on the alternate audio track.

Downloading Jedi as I type!

I don't think it can be removed.

FYI:
I've been working on logo removal with Adobe After Effects. That logo can be removed, and I am going to apply the removal to this great presentation of the film. It’s a kind of blending of the background / foreground images that hides the logo from the naked eye.

Since there's no way that A) I'll ever get this downloaded, and B) that I'll be able to remove that logo if I did - would it be possible for you to send me a copy of yours with the logo removed for the price of a DL and a SL disc?

Actually, I should ask this first: Will your copy be identical to the original minus the logo, or will it just be the movie by itself, with no menus or extras or anything?

Why no text on the back like on SW and ESB on Coov's covers?

Aside from that, a bit of constructive criticism on it to make it more in line with the SW/ESB efforts:

- Change the back logo so there's no box around it, and likewise no "STAR WARS" - simply "RETURN OF THE JEDI"
- Change the spine logo so it's the same as the back logo, but with the same above change - no box, no underline and no "STAR WARS"
- Goes without saying: the text on the back

This would make the spines match, and keep the back of the cover the same style as the others.

What I mean for the logo is, just make it simply like so:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/chainsawash/jedilogo.jpg

Keep the front logo the same. On the SW and ESB covers, the front logo was one style, while the spine and back logos were the same, yet different from the front, and ESB's spine/back logo had no border and no "STAR WARS," unlike the front, which had both.

Other than that - excellent work!

And I'd rather not ruin the surprise.

The menu shots and cover artwork are all being done by bunnydojo (who did The Game and Se7en for me).

Nice. Bunnydojo does good work - I've got a few covers from back when DVDCA was still around by him. He's done a great one for Snatch on Dag's site, but I'm illiterate as to how to upload there, and don't have the money to buy credits.

Just watched the episode.

And it was bloody brilliant.

There have been a few moments in S2 that IMO haven't quite lived up to S1's near-perfectness (we shan't speak of "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down"), but this episode convinced me that it's still as great as it's ever been.

Can't wait for next week. And now that I've figured out how to work the new DVR, there will be no missing of it for me.

The continuity error is in how River is rescued by Simon - in the show, he said that he bought up contacts to infiltrate the "school" to get River out. They got her out and mailed her to Simon in the cryo-box-thing, and from there he could take them wherever he wanted. Mal opened the box and woke her up, and it's quite obvious in that scene that it's the first time River's seen her brother in a long time.

In the movie, he gets the contacts to help get her out, and he goes into the facility himself, posing as a member of the Alliance, and gets her out while she's awake, getting picked up by his contacts in a ship out some vent shaft thing. River also helps in the escape.

That's the error.

OCP, in your classic editions, did you use the original opening crawls from the laserdiscs, or did you use the re-done CG-rendered opening crawls from the 2004 DVDs?

If they're CG-rendered rather than simply cleaned, they were quite faithful in duplicating the originals - in the original crawls for all 6 movies, 5 of them have four dots at the end " . . . . " while ROTJ is the only one out of all 6 that has three " . . . " and the official DVDs reflect this.
