I wonder if you'd be able to export them as WAV files first and later convert them to AC3 for your DVDs. Mainly because I (and, I'm sure, many others) would love to have PCM copies of all the original audio mixes.
For instance, I don't use DVDs anymore - I rip them to high-quality MKVs that I play on a Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ off of my hard drive. With your V1 DVDs, Dark_Jedi, I used MKVTools to strip ANH of your AC3 audio and replace it with the PCM mono and '77 stereo mixes. I'd like to be able to do the same with ESB and ROTJ, so I could have the PCM stereo mixes alongside hairy_hen's 5.1 AC3 mixes.
I'd still recommend using AC3 for the DVDs themselves, but I think a lot of people here would greatly appreciate you making these mixes available in a lossless format as well.
I avoid that site like the plague.
Not because I don't like it - it's actually quite interesting.
No, I avoid it because, without fail, if I go to look at one article, I'll soon discover that I've been aimlessly browsing for about 3 hours. Hell, I've been late for class specifically due to TVTropes.
It's fun to read ... but dangerous.
The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable.
I keep getting this when I try to download the sample.
Dark_Jedi's not using the time-compressed LDs, since those would be generally more difficult to work with than the ones that aren't time-compressed.
The non-time-compressed ones alone have enough differences in frame counts compared to the GOUT that some stretching - and possibly some filling-in from the 85 or 93 mixes - may be necessary to create a complete, synchronized track.

Add the subs, then add simulated grain (from a filter such as GrainFactory3) using a transparency mask so that the grain is only applied over the subtitle text.
I'd vote for this option. The first sounds too destructive to the picture for my tastes.
...
How does it sound destructive? The picture information (except for the part covered by the text, obviously) ends up unchanged. It's simple maths: if x - y = z, then z + y = x.
You're correct, I completely misread your intentions. I thought you meant to make the GOUT as grain-free as possible so you could add in the grain-free subtitles to a grain-free image.
Having re-read it, I'd certainly go for option 1 since it allows you to have the "real" grain instead of simulated grain on the subtitles.
I'm being ignored by GhostAlpha26, cutnshut, and Leper Messiah TR.
I don't remember cutnshut and why that may be the case, but I'm also ignoring Leper Messiah TR, and I think I remember what happened with GhostAlpha...

I'd also, as has been said, recommend softening the subtitles a bit (add a pixel or two blur to it) in order to blend it in with the softer picture.

I'll be glad to see msycamore's subtitles in action. :)
As would I!
Part of what sold Dark_Jedi's transfers to me was the image stabilization. From what everyone here's been saying about this EditDroid release, image judder is still an issue. If there were a good combination of EditDroid's overall picture quality (based on the cap above, much more detail is present than Dark_Jedi's) and the G-Force/Dark_Jedi image stabilization, I'd be a very happy person indeed.
Haven't seen Quarantine, but I have seen the original, [REC], which is a Spanish movie made one year before Quarantine was made. And based on the previews for Quarantine I saw, it seems to be a shot-for-shot English remake of [REC].
I will say that [REC] is pretty fantastic, and it actually scared the living hell out of me, especially the ending. I highly recommend it. Quarantine I'm not so sure about.
Sunshine is amazing, though, definitely keep that one on your list.
Next on my week of movies I have on my hard drive but have never seen before - Dances with Wolves.
Now not only have I never seen Dances with Wolves in any form, the only version I had to watch was the 4-hour extended cut (compared to the 3-hour theatrical). I was a bit wary going into an extended cut without ever seeing the theatrical, but I have to say ...
The film was pretty damned amazing. In fact, in the entire 4 hours, there's only one scene I know I would cut (that is, the soldiers leaving the fort before Dunbar arrives there - I'd remove it to add a sense of mystery as to why the fort was abandoned), and I have no idea if it's still there in the theatrical cut or not. But I can't imagine what else could be cut out of the film. It's that good.
The cinematography is simply stunning, as well. The shots of the frontier make me wish I'd lived in a time when I could have been one of the first to explore it anew. And that buffalo hunt ... holy hell was that intense and amazing.
9/10
I found Ady's 1980 theatrical ESB reconstruction, but nothing Revisited-ish. Could that be what you saw, Dayv?
Has Ady even said he'll be doing a DVD-9? As much as I would love one, I was under the impression this was DVD-5 only.
Aw man. I missed the game, too. I guess I'm glad I did now ...
The "expectation vs. reality" part was brilliant indeed.
I just watched (500) Days of Summer last night.
I'm kind of torn on it. On the one hand, it was a pretty good deconstruction of relationships, and I have the biggest crush in the world on Zooey Deschanel.
On the other hand, Zooey's character in the film is a huge cunt that I wanted to punch in the face many times, and Joseph Gordon-levitt's character is a naive idiot.
Then again, I could say the same thing about many of my exes and myself in previous relationships, so I guess it was fairly realistic...?
I give the film a 6.5/10.
True. What I really meant to say was, if any of the Jedi laserdiscs have the 1983 mix, it's the one with the 1478-80 catalog number.
Not really. The suspensors in the book lifted his fat up so his feet only carried a tiny fraction of his entire weight. He didn't use them to fly around the room like he did in the movie.
....
Ugh, TRIPLE post? What the fuck ...
Yes, 1478-80 is the one with the 1983 stereo mix.
Part 1: 204,469,696 bytes
Part 2: 202,495,880 bytes
Yeah, something's up, they're both too small. Is there any way to fix this?
Note that I don't have full Internet access yet (fuck you, Comcast) - I've been tethering my Verizon 3G through my Droid Eris to my computer via USB. I haven't had a problem with most downloads, but I'm not able to access certain websites properly, and I did have a problem with Adywan's latest ESB:R clip (QuickTime and VLC both claimed it wasn't a movie file).
I'll try re-downloading next time I'm at my friend's place so I can steal his WiFi.
This is the 1992 re-issue Mallwalker is talking about:
This version has a digital audio track that is either the 1985 or 1993 remix (not sure which), and an analog track that is most likely the 1980 theatrical mix.
However, according to the Laserdisc Database, this reissue is time compressed ...
Pictures:
Empire with 1980 Theatrical Stereo:
Jedi with 1983 Theatrical Stereo:
Also, I just discovered a 1984 Japanese Empire LD that has the English 1980 theatrical audio track, and also is not time compressed:
And possibly the same for Jedi:
Also note that I have no idea if there ever was a 1985 remix for Jedi (though I'm fairly certain there was a 1993 remix), so it's possible that the Japanese Special Collection (with the 1985 remixes of Star Wars and Jedi) and its related US releases contains the 1983 stereo for Jedi, as well.
But I'm not 100% sure on that.
