I dig this a lot, especially the Kylo’s eye through the mask and the Empire Stirkes Back vibe of it.

Yep, I need a high-res textless version of this, too! Happy there are so many solid TROS posters to choose from.

Unfortunately, streaming quality isn’t as high as Blu-Ray quality would be. And also unfortunately, if it’s not released on physical disc or, at minimum, a purchaseable download (versus streaming subscriptions), working on an edit using material from it would mean that edit can’t be discussed at fanedit.org or listed on IFDb due to their extremely strict “own the source” rule.

Sadly, though, I agree - it’s unlikely that The Mandalorian will be released on physical media in the forseeable future.

If something isn’t commercially available on physical media, I feel like being subscribed to the service where it is commercially available should count as “owning the source” for the purposes of fanediting.

It’s very explicitly against fanedit.org’s rules, unfortunately. I don’t believe we have as strict a policy on that here.

They do allow purchasing a digital copy (e.g. from iTunes or Amazon) as far as compliance with their Own the Source rule, but simply being subscribed to a streaming service, even if that’s the only way one can access that particular content, doesn’t count. You have to be able to pay for the specific movie/show you want to edit in order to comply with their rules. For instance, Stranger Things edits weren’t allowed over there until the Target-exclusive BR release came out, and season 3 is still off limits on fanedit.org until a physical release exists.

Again, I don’t believe the rules about that here are as strict. There’s already a Mandalorian edit available here.

RogueLeader's Rogue One Edit (* unfinished project *)

If I were to edit with isolated audio tracks, might there be a track that is mostly just the music? (I’ve never edited with 5 channel audio so I’m not sure where to even start with that.)

No, it’s all still mixed. Each channel will have sound effects and music in it, except sometimes the center channel will be clean and dialogue-only (though that’s rare).

You might get super lucky and the part you’re looking for will have little/no sound effects in the rear channels, but that’s also very unlikely.

4K restoration on Star Wars

Yeah, they may not be perfect, but they are a massive step in the right direction (regarding color) from every previous release since 2004. I’ll admit it actually goes a long way to healing old wounds, so to speak. Having the fan-made 4K series more than 2/3 done along with official versions that actually look decent again (even if they’re not my preferred versions of the OT), as well as some pretty great new content in recent years has moved my “love/hate” opinion of Lucasfilm a bit further towards the “love” column. If they’d just suck it up and officially release reasonably competent 4K versions of the OOT all would be forgiven at this point.

Both 4 and 5 have had some weird female support cast forcing with the waitress and kinda the widow who was written very blandly, and now this mechanic and the assassin. They’re trying to include women in SW so hard that it’s sad and takes away from what’s actually happening in the series.

Seriously? So what, they aren’t allowed to include women at all, or it’s just forced feminism? Give me a fucking break.

It wasn’t a great episode, but it had nothing to do with the female characters.

Was very happy to see Tatooine/Mos Eisley treated to match the OOT and not the SE. No evidence of the expanded, busy spaceport we’ve seen since 1997 - that was 100% the sparse backwater of 1977.

Well I hate to say it but I think it’s supposed to seem like a ghost town in a way that contrasts what we saw before. I mean just look at the cantina.

Yes, but we didn’t see the huge, wide streets of the SE devoid of people - we saw the same cramped alleyways of the OOT instead. I didn’t mean “sparse backwater” to mean “devoid of people” so much as I meant it as a description of the town, and to me, the episode is in line with the OOT version, but with fewer inhabitants.

I agree that it was one of the weaker episodes, though. Ming Na was wasted.
