I have a question: in the original version of ESB at the end of the Hoth Battle, we see an AT-AT shooting down a snowspeeder, and there is a sort of airplane sound before it crashes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxAs1Q8Obxk

But in later versions the sound is almost gone! I think it was better with the old sound because it added more chaos to the scene (better feeling). Is it possible to re-insert the sound?

The old theatrical version that is out there on the internet (I think it is from the double dvd of ESB) is not that old, it doesn't have this sound OR transparent snowspeeders so you won't find the sound there. I think the sound only exist in VHS-versions that came before the Special Editions in 1997 (Maybe on laser disc if it excist?)

This sound effect was inexplicably (accidentally, most likely) removed from the 1993 "Definitive Collection" audio remix, which is what's present on the "Theatrical Version" disc in the 2006 2-DVD set.

The effect is there in the 1980 theatrical mix, and the 1985 home video remix. I don't know if it's in the SE, because I haven't watched either version of the SE since I learned of this sound effect issue.

I'm fairly certain Ady will restore this sound effect, but I don't think he's confirmed it yet. In fact, I'm pretty sure he's not working on the sound mix until after the video's done, so he's got some time before he has to worry about this!

(Also, not to thread-hijack, but if you want a DVD of the theatrical cut with this sound intact, dark_jedi will be releasing a DVD soon that has all the audio mixes included, along with a cleaned-up, anamorphic version of the 2006 DVD video. You can learn more about this in the "Star Wars Preservations and Other Fan Projects" section of the forum.)

Licence to Kill.

I don't know if I mentioned it in this thread (I think I did, but I'm too lazy to go back and look right now), but I also watched The Living Daylights not too long ago.

And I have to say, I'd only seen each Dalton Bond once before, and it was quite a while ago (during my have-to-own-every-James-Bond-film-on-VHS days, before The World is Not Enough came out), and they are both much better than I remember.

I'm not sure why the Dalton films are so maligned by many Bond fans. I think both are fantastic, and Dalton does Bond better than Brosnan, Moore, Lazenby, and probably Connery ever did (I'm still on the fence there), and he's at least as good as Daniel Craig, if not better. He just ... is 007, at least 007 as he should be (to me).

Personally, I feel Licence isn't quite as good as Daylights, but it's still better than the vast majority of Bond films. I'd say the only ones that are better than it are Daylights, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, From Russia with Love, Casino Royale, and maybe Dr. No (though that's a very boring film today).

I feel one of the reasons it's not as appreciated is that the villain isn't out to take over the world or anything - he's just a drug dealer. But it works because this isn't a "save the world" 007 film - it's much more personal to James than that. Not to mention it does the "rogue" 007 better than Die Another Day or Quantum of Solace did (though Quantum comes very close).

It almost feels (to me) that Bond is doing this to vicariously seek revenge for the death of his wife (in OHMSS) as much as getting revenge for the maiming of his best friend. He knows Felix can't avenge his wife's death himself, being maimed and all, and Bond's been down this road before. To him, Sanchez may as well have killed his own wife. Licence to Kill is the kind of film that should have followed On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Bond blinded by vengeance against Blofeld. Instead we got Diamonds Are Forever (to be fair, I don't remember much of that movie, either - I should give it another go soon).

As much as I love GoldenEye, it pains me that we got that instead of another Dalton Bond. I could live with losing GoldenEye if it meant we wouldn't have had to put up with The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day. (Tomorrow Never Dies I could take or leave.)

Anyway, if you haven't given the Dalton Bond films a fair shake in recent years, give them another go. You might be surprised at how much better they are than you may remember.

as you said, it is done, I am not going to replace every red scene, or now make reivax the base, it is what it is now, and like I said in the GOUT v3 thread, not trying to be a smart ass, but if you guys are not happy with it there are other projects doing this same set, either wait for theirs or make your own, I feel like I am putting to much time in this '97 set as it is, especially sync'ing the LD DD 5.1 track.

I was going to start on Jedi now but maybe I will just wait a while.

DJ, you take things too personally! ;-) We all want this to be the best it can possibly be, that's all. Anytime someone mentions a potential flaw, they're not bringing it up to say that you're doing a bad job; they're bringing it up because they know that you want your project(s) to be your final word on the GOUT or the 1997 SE, and they want that final word to be as close to the best as it can be. They're not personal attacks by any means.

If you're feeling stressed about it, take a break for a week or so, and come back to it with fresh, level-headed eyes. Overworking yourself never helped anyone! ;-)

And always, always remember - your work is greatly appreciated, by all of us! Soon enough, my DVD cases for all 3 films will be full of your GOUT V3 and '97 SE DVDs, and it certainly seems that nothing less than an official Lucasfilm restoration will change that.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Dark_Jedi is using G-Force's new script.

The difference is that DJ's V3 DVD will include all of the following:

- Burned-in subtitles (for Greedo in ANH and Jabba in ROTJ), created by msycamore, that replicate the theatrical subtitles as closely as possible
- New 5.1 upmixes created by Hairy_Hen
- All official pre-SE audio mixes, minus the original 70mm mixes (this will include theatrical mono for ANH, theatrical stereo for all three films, and the 1985 and 1993 remixes for all three films). This will mark the first time the 1980 ESB, 1983 ROTJ, and 1985 mixes have been synchronized to the GOUT video.

More information on Hairy_Hen's 5.1 upmixes:
     - ANH's 5.1 mix is an as-faithful-as-possible recreation of the 1977 theatrical 70mm six-track mix (using the 1993 and 1977 stereo mixes); LFE (subwoofer) channel is a hybrid of the 1997 SE 5.1 and 2004 DVD 5.1 LFE channels, edited to match the theatrical mix
     - ESB's 5.1 mix has one(?) badly-edited music cue fixed (making it different from the theatrical, '85, and '93 mixes) and the missing snowspeeder crash sound effect restored (missing in the 1993 mix); LFE channel is a hybrid of the 1997 and 2004 LFE channels, like ANH; it is not a 70mm recreation, but an edited upmix of the 1993 mix
     - ROTJ's 5.1 mix has one unused music cue restored (making it different from the theatrical, '85, and '93 mixes); LFE is custom-made from the 1993 mix (at least, I think so; this track was made before the other two, and is available on Dark_Jedi's earlier releases); like ESB, it is not a 70mm recreation, but an edited upmix of the 1993 mix
