I’m not sure. It wasn’t made clear in the movie, which was probably not a good idea.
The weapons clearly melted from the beam but it’s unclear of the crash damage would have worked.
Don’t forget that Poe tells Finn that the cannon is charged and that it’s a suicide run.
It being a suicide run doesn’t mean Finn sacrificing himself wouldn’t have disabled or destroyed the cannon, Independence Day style.
Plus there’s the fact that scanning in 2K might mean the “pixel grid,” for lack of a better term, that’s printed on the film probably won’t exactly line up with the “pixel grid” of the scanner, meaning some original pixels might be lost during scanning. Scanning it in 4K means this is less of an issue, since each original pixel on the print would be covered by up to 4 pixels on the scanner.
+1 for His Dark Materials. I like the show quite a bit, but agree that for that one I’d recommend the books first. (And to avoid the Golden Compass movie entirely.)
Season 2 of The Witcher starts filming next month.
And Game of Thrones suffered because they ran out of source material and started making up their own shit based on vague notes from the author. Witcher won’t have that problem, the book series is complete already.
Pretty much like Duracell says. I liked the fact that the nonlinear plot wasn’t clear until about halfway through the series, but I know that was a big point of confusion for some.
Bear in mind that season 1 is based on short stories that take place prior to the first proper book of the series, so the season is largely a prologue for the actual story (and once the plotlines converge by the end of the season, the story will be linear - or at least significantly more so - starting next season).
Just make sure your printer isn’t scaling anything, use borderless printing if using letter size paper, and if you can’t do that, use legal size paper instead. Use the highest print quality you can. You can use photo paper if you want, but I usually don’t.
No problem! And yeah, I know a lot of these things are issues inherent in trying to mash two movies together that were written, filmed, and edited to be a single film each - we don’t have access to all the footage that was filmed, so our options for transitions and the like are limited. (I also wish there were clean opening sequences with no on-screen credits, but at least they both go up front.)
I think I might tinker with doing a version of this myself - if I do I’ll happily share with you any ideas or solutions I come up with for some of this stuff. (Not saying I’ll make a thread on or even publicly release my version, this just sounds like a fun puzzle to work on!)

It’s very good and not really much like a typical murder mystery.
Okay, I finally gave this a watch the other night. Bear in mind that this was my first viewing of either film, I’ve never seen the Tim Curry version, and I only read the book once, years and years ago (and can’t remember if I finished it).
Overall, I really liked it and feel like the studio’s choice to split the story up by era probably severely harmed it, especially part two, since the older Losers’ story exists primarily as a framing device for the younger Losers’ story until the ending, and splitting that off on its own can’t have worked very well.
However, this edit isn’t totally seamless. I didn’t take specific notes or anything and don’t know if I’ll revisit your cut anytime soon to do so, but here are my general thoughts:
The biggest issue I have is that it often didn’t feel like there was much rhyme or reason to tie together the “flashbacks.” We’d get a bit of 2016 material, then it would flash back to 1989, but it didn’t feel like a natural progression, like “this is what Richie is remembering” Instead it was more, “Richie is remembering something, now here’s 30 minutes of the kids, 15 of which don’t involve Richie at all.”
Then there are things that are shown out of order/context that were confusing, like when Bowers is arrested by the cops but keeps showing up in the 1989 timeline. I assumed I’d missed a scene where he escaped from jail or something, but by the end I realized that it apparently took place after the Losers’ 1989 battle with IT. The structure is already nonlinear, so as much as is possible, the 1989 and 2016 stories should both proceed linearly in parallel unless there’s a good reason not to.
Finally, there was a lot of inconsistency in how the switching between timeframes happened - sometimes it was a dip to white, sometimes it was an organic transition that I can only assume was as it’s presented in the second movie, sometimes it was just a cut. These should be made as consistent as possible, if at all possible.
I’m also not a fan of putting fan edit titles over actual title screens, but that’s a personal nitpick.
NOW, I don’t want you to think I’m just shitting all over your edit - it was very well done for a first edit, and I absolutely know I enjoyed this far more than I would have enjoyed watching each film individually, I just think there’s room to make it even better!
Also, it never occurred to me that anyone would see the entire front half of the Death Star sunk into an ocean and think the tides would somehow be MOVING it. It’s not floating ON the water, and I can’t imagine the tides are so strong that it’s being pushed across the bottom of the sea floor, either.
The dagger is goofy and dumb, but to suggest it’s goofy and dumb because the Death Star would have moved in the meantime doesn’t really make any sense. It’s not like a lightweight piece of detritus. It’s the entire front half of a moon-sized battlestation. It’s not going anywhere because the tides are a little choppy.
It’s goofy and dumb because the dagger has no reason to exist. The tides are a very minor point. It seems like the wreckage would shift over time, due to a large part of it being flooded, but I suppose the dagger could have been made just a couple decades ago. But I’m still wondering who made it, and why they shaped it to match the skyline of the wreckage. It’s goofy and dumb because if Rey had been standing a bit closer to shore, or a few yards to the right, the dagger would have been useless.
I agree that it’s goofy and dumb, but on my second viewing it became clear that the dude who killed Rey’s parents is the one who forged the knife, Sith runes and weird wreckage skyline and all, and that it was not some ancient artifact that completely coincidentally pointed to a certain spot in a wreck that didn’t exist 35 years ago, which was the impression I got the first time.
I don’t think having a subtle tease of a voice that may or may not be Palpatine saying “Find me” at the end of TLJ precludes pushing the reveal of Palpatine himself in TROS back a little bit, personally. If the movie had came out with that exact tease, people would have been arguing about it for 2 years with tons of people being in the “There’s no way it’s Palpatine” camp.
In general, I think subtly teasing Palpatine through both TFA and TLJ helps to make his sudden appearance in TROS feel less jarring, and while it is important to not overdo it in TFA/TLJ, I think Poppa has struck the perfect balance here.

It should be noted that if you intend to lift chunks directly from another person’s edit, you should try to get permission from them first, and absolutely credit them either way.
My guess is you’re seeing compression artifacts, but I don’t have the file on hand to check myself.

HDTV broadcasts (at least, the ones we have copies of) are the 2001 DVD version. They don’t have any of the Blu-Ray changes (puppet Yoda is still there), but they have the extended podrace introduction and the added air taxi scene, plus an added bridge in one shot on Naboo.
Schorman has preserved this HDTV broadcast, you can send him a PM for his preservation.
I believe there’s an SD broadcast of the theatrical cut that exists, though. I think ZigZig might have it?
A 4K scan of the 1981 crawl exists, but it requires a lot of restoration and no one’s really tackled it yet. I attempted to, but my laptop is too old and weak to handle the workload…
I also don’t like using the SE crawl just because the SW logo recedes too quickly, but Hal 9000 did a great job of fixing this using the Spanish(?) version of the crawl for the SW logo on his custom SE, so I think using that is a better choice than using the straight 1997 crawl on a Despecialized type project. If you don’t care about 1981 accuracy, anyway (as it uses the 1977 starfield instead of the 1981 one).
(I know Adywan fixed the logo speed too, but he also changed the timing of the crawl to match the 1977 version.)

Hal’s prequel edits don’t follow the plots of the books they’re named after either.
But those books aren’t put on a pedestal by fans the way the Thrawn trilogy has been for almost 30 years.

Honestly all three titles of the Thrawn trilogy would totally work for the Sequel Trilogy. Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command.
So I agree completely with this and have been intending to use these titles for my own edits (if I ever get around to making them) … but I just know if I release them publicly under those titles I’ll get skewered.
