I’m not saying I’m sold on the idea yet, but you can fit Fett’s call between Jabba’s sentence and the arrival at the Pit of Carkoon. Reedit the bit where Fett uses his rope to capture Luke to make it seem like he’s trying to capture him alive, then Vader’s arrival (to an empty Palace) can come after the departure from Tatooine.

It might screw with the pacing, but I think it’s worth an attempt to see how it works. If new footage can be shot and lines can be recorded that don’t sound like bad impressionists, anyway.

ROTJ has always felt the most “stagey” of the OT to me, and the one that was the most unconcerned with shots looking less than impressive. Some of the sets and locations really feel like sets and locations, and I’ve always felt it was detrimental to the suspension of disbelief necessary for a fantasy film. I’d be thrilled to see this kind of thing minimized or eliminated for ROTJ:R.

Yeah, but if you’re reediting things so Fett tries to capture Luke, the rope-grab part can be repurposed. I’m just saying that there’s some existing material that could support this change.

What the fuck, man? I mean, I expected to say that when it was all said and done, but in a good way. Right now I do not mean it in a good way.

Not being terribly familiar with this film beyond the fact that I’ve seen and enjoyed it, could the down-pitch thing be due to the fact that you’re used to watching PAL versions (which are sped up 4%, thus raising the pitch)?

I’ve long been a proponent of removing Fett from ROTJ entirely, but I have to say I like the idea of Fett informing Vader about Luke’s presence at Jabba’s palace. If that could be worked out convincingly, I’d be happy.

But if not, I’m still all for axing Fett from ROTJ.

Sounds a lot like where I’m at right now. It’ll get better, even though it feels like it won’t right now.

I think some of the ANH:R graphics updates were a little excessive in the first place. They were made to make the film mesh more to the level of tech we see in the prequels, which aren’t part of Revisited anymore anyway. The new graphics and displays in ESB:R are a lot more subtle, and imo are better for it.

EDIT: as the Millennium Falcon is supposed to be an old hunk of junk, wouldn’t it make sense that the targeting displays are primitive looking?

As for the Death Star plans, why not have it start with the centered dish, then cycle through a few designs when R2 is plugged in, ending on the correct one.

Later, during the briefing, use the correct design but keep the slightly more primitive “look” of the graphics.

I agree with all of this, especially the idea of “cycling” through the plans when Artoo gets plugged in and then using a revised, no-center-dish version at the actual briefing.

Why change anything better back to something worse, just because in a new movie something looks just as bad as it was 40 years ago.

Maybe the TIE fighters could change to white, since they are white in TFA, and add a seat behind Vader and the other TIE pilots, so it matches TFA.

Well, that’s a silly comparison, since those are clearly completely different models of TIE fighters in TFA, whereas it’s the same Falcon.

Yeah, the Betamax thing was hyperbole. I’ve never seen anyone actually say that. I was just riffing on the “older transfers are clearly superior because of the colars” mentality.

I enjoyed Aftermath. The sequels were better, though - the first one was clearly rushed to get it out before TFA, so Wendig’s style comes across as even more choppy than usual, but I still didn’t have much of an issue with it.

How about Miguel Sapochnik? He’s directed some of the best episodes of Game of Thrones, which kinda fits with Rian Johnson having directed some of the best Breaking Bad episodes and J.J. Abrams having directed some…episodes…of TV shows.

Yeah, I don’t get the whole “I don’t like the colors on the Blu-Ray, guess I’ll stick with my 20-year-old Betamax copy!” thing at all.
